Chapter 13: Downplay

Gavin’s POV:

It was hard to walk away from Luci as the phone buzzed in her hand.

The way her eyes steeled over when she looked down at it made me want to stay back and make sure she was alright.

She told me to go on without her, so I’d go along with what she said, but there was a voice telling me not to leave Luci alone.

“Do you know how batsh*t you sound?” I muttered to myself as I followed the path that Luci had pointed out to me.

I just met her today. It’s not normal to feel like that after a few hours, right?

I glanced back to see her put the phone up to her ear, but I was too far away to hear anything.

Luci probably thought I was a creep, and rightfully so. I manage to turn awkwardness into an art form.

It wasn’t like me to go out of the way and talk to strangers, especially at a new school. It reminded me of the time before I aged out of the system.
