Chapter 23: A Brightness Which Comes From You

AJ’s POV

After locating our mate bond, it was easy to open it again. I just had to call forward a strong image of Maxx to feel out for where he was.

I just, made sure not to make it quite so vivid this time.

“… so how much of that did you see?” I asked him bashfully. Except, then I actually got a closer look at what was going on.

It was a strange experience to notice that all which kept Maxx and I apart was a fairly small, spiritual-seeming divide. No doubt it would be impossible to actually traverse. But when it came down to it, there really wasn’t all that much which kept the two of us apart. That was a good thing, of course. I loved being close to Maxx!

I just, couldn’t stand the atrocious stench wafting across from it.

“Goddess! Maxx, what is that!?”

“You’re asking the wrong guy! Luna’s the one who dug it up!”

What, was Maxx seeing people behind my back? “Who’s Luna?”

“Your wolf. AJ, call her back!”

I blinked. Naming your wolf. What an unusual thing to do.
