AJ’s POV
“I’ve never done anything remarkable in my life.”
I knew I was talking to myself. But part of me desperately needed the distraction to help keep me on my present task. If I faltered too much, then I’d lose the concentration which kept me in this place. I kept tracing lines against the walls in my wolf’s domain.
I had sensed Connor this way, so long ago. I probably could have sensed my packmates this way as well, if I had bothered to try. But they had always been dicks to me. Why on earth would I want to actively reach out? Besides, none of the other shifters had to try as hard to connect as I did. It had been easier with Connor, that had come pretty naturally. That was just a best friend sort of thing, though. With some people getting close was easier.
With Maxx, for instance, getting close had been an instantaneous deal.
… well, perhaps not quite instant. He had needed to hit me in the face first.
