"Ogre!" Vol shouted, saying it aloud in his panic. He had no choice but to send the monster away. The position behind him would fall apart without it, even if it meant that Vol's own battle was likely to be more difficult.

In response to that panicked reaction, Ironbane once more laughed. "I delight in the battlefield. When I can put down peasants like you, clawing for power, my day seems so much brighter."

Chapter 3 - New Solutions

Another wound opened up on Vol's side as Ironbane's lance scored him. His vision was blurry, and his breathing was coming far too heavy for his liking. He felt like a man fresh on the battlefield. It was as though he'd entered into a different world. It was as if Earl Maddon had arrived solely for the purpose of proving to Vol that his combat style was ineffective in battles of a larger scale – that it couldn't work on true military men, and it would only ever work on the likes of undisciplined raiders.
