Chapter 9

Adam rubs Victoria's head as they stayed in each others arms for 10 minutes. Calming her down until she was no longer crying. He gives them both a little of space as it was enough to where he can look at her face. Adam puts his chin against Victoria's forehead, "Want to talk about it?"

"I... I do not know if I can..." Victoria clenches her fingers around Adam's coat.

"Give yourself time." Adam holds her closer almost to where he is crushing her.

Victoria sniffs, "I... I did not kill William Booth... I did not... I would have never harm someone..."

Adam rubs Victoria's head. Letting Victoria rant about everything.

"I would never harm him... I cared about his well being even though he has cheated on me with other women, but I would never kill him..." Victoria rants.

"I understand." Adam says calmly.

Victoria unleashes one of her hands from gripping onto Adam's cloak to wipe away her tears. She sniffs again, "I never knew things would get this bad."

"What would get bad?"

"My sight, I have been seeing these strange creatures and the dead ever since I have been suffering from the abuse of my family and late husbands."

"Did your late husbands abuse you?" Adam asks angrily.

Victoria buries her face into Adam's chest and nods.

Adam breathes heavily as he shifts a bit to pick up Victoria into his arms. Not letting her go as he settles down into the bed. He asks nicely, "Would you like to talk about anything else?"

"Why did you kill your family? Did you not love them?" Victoria asks.

"I killed them because they have done terrible things to others and you were the turning point for me. I was tired of sitting by and watching them do their evil things so I took action. It may not be the most good thing in the world, but it has already happened." Adam stops rubbing Victoria's head, "As for love... I have never truly loved them, only cared."

"Are you going to send me to an asylum or mental institute?" Victoria begins to shake in fear.

Adam shakes his head, "I would never. I have friends who have worse problems than you think and they have been sent to asylums. Have not seen them since and I am not allowed to visit them. I wish to help you as much as I can."

Victoria nods as she cuddles up against Adam. Not letting him go. She feels safe against him and doesn't want to removed from him.

Adam asks out of concern, "What about your other late husbands? How did they die?"

"1 of them died by being punished by the mayor for abusing the women that he cheated on me with. The others have died mysteriously."

"Do you not remember?"

"I would black out." Victoria puts a hand onto Adam's chest. Hearing his heart beat.

"Do you remember any kind of screaming?" Adam raises an eyebrow.

Victoria looks away from Adam's chest, "I would..."

Adam let's go of Victoria and grabs onto her shoulders. He looks at her in the eyes, "I would not let anything bad happen to you, I wish for you to be well and I will make sure that happens."

Victoria looks in Adam's eyes and sees that he is being true to his words. She nods as she gets off the bed. Feeling his hands slide off her, "I am going to use the restroom."

"Do you need to know where it is?"

"I got it, but thank you."

Victoria leaves the room as she leaves Adam in the room.

Adam looks down at the bed as he knew what happened to the previous husbands. He soon looks up to see Lewis walking into the room while having a piece of cloth wrapped around his neck. Adam looks at Lewis, "I found out about some things."

"That is?" Lewis puts his hands onto his hips.

"Victoria stated that she would black out and hear screams of her late husbands, but from the reports that the officers had made. Victoria and another woman would leave the house as though nothing happened." Adam brings a hooked finger up to his chin.

Lewis tilts his head a bit to the right, "Did she say anything else?"

Adam looks away, "She stated that she has been seeing things just like how Augustus's brother was seeing, but his was more extreme than her's."

"You are not planning on sending her to an asylum, are you?"

"Hell no, she does not deserve to go there after what I just learned." Adam turns his head towards the hallway.

Lewis nods after straightening out his head, "Did something cause for her episodes to happen?"

Adam gets up from the bed and onto his feet. Putting his hands onto his hips as he lays his brown eyes onto the ground, "I believe it is the abuse from her late husbands and possibly someone else as well."

"We should get Benjamin over here to take a look at her. I will go fetch him, you stay here with Ms. Brimswald so that she does not get into trouble." Lewis turns around and begins to head out the door.

Adam watches his friend leave and walks over to the doorway to see Victoria walking back to the room. He gives her a small smile and leans against the door frame, "Fancy seeing you again, thought that you went downstairs."

Victoria stops walking and looks at Adam, "It took me a while to find the restroom, but I was able to find it."

Adam nods as he gets off the door frame and walks over to her. Grabbing her hand into his own, "Would you like to go outside? To get out of this house?"

Victoria blushes a little as she nods.

Adam smiles wider and begins to lead Victoria down the stairs. Making sure that she does not trip down the steps. He would occasionally look back at her to see that her eyes show sadness and severe trauma. He felt himself grieve for her, not wanting her to get hurt in any sort of way anymore.

They reached the bottom of the steps as Adam leads Victoria over to the door. Before he could grab onto the handle, he hears Victoria screaming. Adam quickly turns to Victoria to see that her free hand is covering one of her eyes. He immediately let's go of Victoria's hand and picks her up bridal style. Leading her over to the living room to set her down onto the couch. Ignoring his hurting ears, Adam holds Victoria close to him. Rubbing her back to try and calm her down.

Victoria screams out, "I cannot see anything! I do not know what is going on!"

Adam rubs her back a bit faster, "You are with me, Victoria. You are safe, no one is here to hurt you."

Victoria begins to cry, "I cannot see anything... I lost my sight once again..."

Adam puts his head against hers. Not letting her go and rubs her back as he tries to calm her down. He knows that she is suffering tremendously and he is willing to admit that he is scared of what is going on, but he is willing to help her.

Victoria reaches out a hand to try and see if she can reach for something. Anything that she can get her hands onto.

Adam reaches out and grabs her hand with his own.

"A-Adam?" Victoria says shakily.

"Yes?"

"Are they still after me?"

"Who are after you?"

"M-My late husbands...?"

"They are nowhere near here." Adam reassures Victoria.

Victoria shakes in fear, "I did not kill them... I can hear their voices..."

"What do they say?" Adam moves closer to Victoria to where he can put his head onto Victoria's.

"T-They tell me that they want me dead... They want me to end my life..."

"Anything else that they say?"

"Stay away from Isabelle."

"Who is Isabelle?"

"My greatest friend. Someone who I can trust." Victoria nuzzles her head into Adam's neck.

Adam looks around the room from what he can see and tilts his head to where his cheek is against Victoria's head. He takes in a deep breath, "Do you feel safe around me?"

Victoria closes her eyes, "You make me feel as though I can be safe around you and not worry about my issues."

Adam smiles a bit, "Do you still want to go outside?"

Victoria shakes her head, "I want to stay like this."

"We can stay like this till you are ready." Adam closes his eyes. Letting Victoria feel safe in his arms...

Lewis rides his horse through the setting sun as he took a right turn to see Adam's house being torn down. He spots a built man with shedding blonde hair talking to Asa. He motions his horse to slow down enough to where he can get off. He walks over to the built man and crosses his arms. Watching Asa and the man talking to each other.

"I do not see the problem with burning Adam's aunt's clothes. Not like Victoria would wear them." Asa pouts.

"She needs clothes, Asa."

"She can wear the outfits from the poisoned women's clothes. I have found them in the cellar."

Lewis watches the 2 men and clears his throat.

Asa and the man turns their heads to look at Lewis. Both shocked to see him outside of his house.

"May I talk with you, Benjamin?" Lewis asks sternly.

Benjamin nods and follows Lewis to where they are away from Asa. Benjamin stops walking as he stares at Lewis, "Can I help you?"

Lewis stops walking as he turns around to meet Benjamin's eyes, "Ms. Brimswald is hallucinating. Adam is not planning to send her to an asylum, but we need your help in making sure that she is treated."

"I will go grab my equipment, I should be there by midnight."

"Take your time, but be there before the morning. I do not know when she will get into another hallucination." Lewis uncrosses his arms.

Benjamin nods and walks over to a black horse. He gets onto its back, "I will meet you at your house."

Lewis walks over to his horse and gets on it. He looks over at Benjamin, "Be there whenever you can, but me and Adam are worried about her. From what Adam told me, her state is dire."

Benjamin ushers his horse to go forwards and the horse responds to run away from the house.

Lewis motions his horse to begin running so that he can get back to his house before anything else bad happens.
