Assassination in the Night

At almost the same time as Yun Qingyan's command to Xiaoxuan, a gust of evil wind blew into the room and its strange sweet smell filled the room.

The rows of red candles were put out immediately and the entire room was plunged into a darkness where one couldn't even see their own hand.

Yun Qingyan swiftly created a mound with her blanket, then nimbly hid by rolling over to hide under the bed and didn't make a single sound.

"Young Mistress?" a gentle female voice called out from outside the door.

The only response she got was silence.

After that, a set of quiet footsteps came from the door.

In the dim moonlight, Yun Qingyan could see a slim and beautiful lady walk in from the door. Her footsteps were light and slow, but Yun Qingyan could still hear the tinge of nervousness hidden in those footsteps.

Someone with this level of boldness wanted to kill her? A look of disdain flashed in Yun Qingyan's eyes.

Ziwan clenched her fists slightly. Her palms were already starting to sweat a little. She tried her best to breathe in a more relaxed manner as her gaze fell upon the scrunched up blanket on the bed.

She then pulled out a sharp dagger from her sleeve with a flourish.

If the candles were still lit, then one would be able to see that the knife was laced with a poison that was able to cut off one's breathing upon contact with their blood. Its dark green color made one's hair stand on end.

"Yun Qingyan, don't blame me for this," Ziwan said viciously as she stared coldly and maliciously at the scrunched up blanket.

"If you need to blame someone, then you have to blame yourself for being too much of an eyesore!" With that, she stabbed the knife down hard.

But the spurting of blood she expected did not happen. It didn't feel like the dagger had stabbed into human flesh either. Instead, it felt like she had stabbed into a soft and fluffy cloth.

Ziwan was shocked and her hands trembled cruelly as she stabbed that bunched up blanket again and again. After a while, the blanket mound flattened itself out like it had been deflated.

There wasn't anybody on the bed.

Ziwan's eyes widened and she immediately pulled the blanket aside without thinking.

At the same time, she could feel something icy placed against her neck, like the grim reaper had come in the night, causing her to feel a chill down her spine.

A voice filled with malice rang in her ears, and it was both flippant and cheeky at the same time. "Oh my my, how has my blanket offended you? Why did you have to do this to it?"

"Yun Qingyan?! You didn't die?!" That familiar yet strange voice made Ziwan's scalp numb and she exclaimed in shock.

Just after saying these words, a vicious and violent poisonous gleam flashed in her eyes as she spun around to stab the knife into the one standing behind her.

"Ha!" A disdainful voice rang out as Ziwan felt that her dagger had stabbed into nothing but air.

The icy feeling on her neck had intensified now as blood started trickling out. The slight pain became magnified in this darkness and it was beginning to agitate her nerves.

"Ziwan, I've been your Young Mistress for so long now, so why do you want me dead so badly?" That same cheeky and impolite voice rang out from behind Ziwan once more, while the knife that could kill her anytime did not move an inch. "You actually dared to become an assassin with this level of technique? Even if you're not embarrassed by it, I'm embarrassed as your Young Mistress."

"Tell me, who's the one who instructed you to do this?" Yun Qingyan asked in a relaxed voice and a bright smile on her face. It was as if she was catching up with an old friend.

"Young Mistress, I was wrong!"

The reply that Yun Qingyan got was a suppressed voice filled with regret and hatred.

A dark glint flashed in Ziwan's lowered eyes.

She didn't know when this useless Yun Qingyan became so highly skilled, but Yun Qingyan was generally a soft-hearted person, so as long as she knelt to beg for mercy, Yun Qingyan would definitely let her off without question.

"Your servant… your servant was forced into doing this!" Ziwan started to cry uncontrollably and her bawling was heart-wrenching.

Yun Qingyan's knife continued to turn on Ziwan's smooth skin. Each time it moved, it felt like a venomous snake using its icy fangs to lick her skin and it made Ziwan's hair all stand on end.

A malevolent voice that sounded like it was going to suck the soul out of Ziwan rang out near her neck once more.

"Oh? Then why don't you tell me who forced you into doing this?"
