At the appearance of Evil Ghost Avatar, Owen Bertram could feel the heterotext in his third eye move. Bertram thought about it, and decided to no longer restrain Little Loach.
From the bottom of the river, his second family member sprung up and charged towards the cave mouth to brake vigorously before taking a deep inhalation.
The move was maybe something it had learned from Giant Turtle. From its large mouth to the cave, a huge funnel-shaped spiral was formed. But instead of sucking in the water flows, it managed to draw in the whole spectral Evil Ghost Avatar.
The Evil Ghost Avatar was caught off guard by the presence of this monster. It roared soundlessly in the water, its fearsome appearance became more horrible.
Yet, it seemed Little Loach's divine powers naturally restrained him.
The Evil Ghost Avatar was distorted as it was sucked in, wisps of black energy drifted out of its body and merged into Little Loach's mouth.
The Evil Ghost Avatar was twisted and struggling, resisting Little Loach for a while, but the constant energy loss eventually led the Ghost Avatar to disintegrate. It gradually began to lose its protruding ends before being swallowed whole by Little Loach.
Little Loach closed its mouth, turned around, and left.
Inside the cave, the Ancient Demon Corpse and the spear air were disturbed. The balance between the two was shattered. The spear air released a piercing sharpness, and the icy azure light of the ancient corpse began to burn like a fire.
Under the influence of these two terrifying forces, the cave collapsed entirely…
Moving several hundred feet away from the crashing cave, Owen Bertram controlled Little Loach. Then, three consecutive circular glows erupted, sweeping across the Great River.
The monstrous body of Little Loach was blasted out by the first circular light, the fish soared out of the water surface, and massive scales started to fall off, splash of green blood erupted.
Little Loach was truly terrified this time.
As Owen Bertram was controlling Little Loach, and they were about to fall back into the river, the second circular light erupted beneath the waters. In his hurried wisdom, Little Loach opened its mouth and spewed out the Sword Pill. Propelled by the reaction force, Little Loach's body moved horizontally in the air, and after a series of swift movements, it crashed onto the riverbank.
With a quick wriggle, Little Loach scurried further away.
Boom -
The river water was raised to create an enormous wave.
Little Loach burrowed into a tree hollow, coiled up entirely bloodied with large patches of scales flipped out. The sight was extremely miserable.
It closed its eyes and started digesting the Evil Ghost Avatar.
The Evil Ghost Avatar within Little Loach's belly frantically thrashed around making the belly bloat and deflate repeatedly. In Bertram's ears, he could hear the ghostly screams.
Within these repeated occurrences, the Evil Ghost Avatar's struggle weakened. Little Loach's wounds began healing automatically.
Uncertain, Owen Bertram kept guard over Little Loach for a while.
After more than a shichen, the ghostly screams in Owen Bertram's ears vanished. A cool sensation surged from Little Loach, enveloping Bertram before seeping into his third eye.
The heterotext within his third eye, reinforced with this energy, rapidly solidified into the silhouette of a Bronze Ancient Lamp.
The lamp flame was the size of a soybean, quietly flickering as if harbouring unspoken secrets.
Of the four large acupoints within his body reserved for storing the "warm current", three had formed responsive objects. The one on his left chest seems to be slightly lagging.
After the Bronze Ancient Lamp formed, the basic information concerning the "Evil Ghost Avatar" also surfaced in his mind.A monstrous mutation spawned under the influence of evil energy?"
"Furthermore, the monster is incredibly powerful and eerie, capable of conjuring the Evil Ghost Avatar."
"However, as soon as it's detected, I can immediately sever its relation to its main body. I'm still clueless about who's behind the Evil Ghost Avatar. Could it be... related to Cliff Maxwell?"
How did Cliff Maxwell get his hands on a Human Skin Mask and a God-slaying artifact?
Owen Bertram analyzed: "Cliff Maxwell is probably just a pawn who is being used without realizing it, and not another separate avatar. Thus, the monster behind the screen is unaware of my relationship with Little Loach."
"Otherwise, the Evil Ghost Avatar would definitely mention Little Loach tonight and wouldn't have suffered a surprise defeat."
"But how could a scum like Cliff Maxwell be blessed with a Human Skin Mask and a God-slaying artifact, and, oh yes, a pill, too—this monster is wealthy."
"The Evil Ghost Avatar had been struggling with Little Loach for quite a while and refused to die immediately after being swallowed. Little Loach had to put in a lot effort before fully digesting it. Yet this is only one of its avatars—this monster is powerful."
While analyzing, a green light flashed in Owen Bertram's eyes: it would be fantastic to capture this fellow and feed his huge wealth to Little Loach!
"This time, I'll definitely persuade my younger brother to replace my magical tool with a fit one, preferably a Flying Sword! If he still dares to cheat or withhold my benefits, I will withhold these things from him too, and he won't get to eat them, hehehe!"
Inside my brocade pouch, I also have the armor and the sabre gifted by Uncle Eastwood. While they're high-quality magical tools, they don't fit my style.
Having been influenced by novels, games, and movies from his past life, Owen Bertram felt that if you're cultivating, of course, you should play with swords. Using a Flying Sword is so free and easy, and stylish, too—wearing armor and holding a sabre just doesn't suit my style.
Moreover, he instinctively understood Flying Swords and felt not being able to use swords would be a big regret in his life.
After being troubled by the Evil Ghost Avatar, Owen Bertram couldn't fall asleep. From the Bronze Ancient Lamp between his brows, a quiet flame emanated a sort of cooling power. Owen Bertram's spirit was excellent, and he didn't feel weary at all.
After dawn, the Horizon Bureau didn't force him, but they prepared a more lavish breakfast, and the faces of several young military officers turned somewhat icy.
Master Basil quietly reminded Owen Bertram, "Be careful. These officers' patience is wearing thin."
Owen Bertram nodded to show he understood. Thanking Master Basil, he arrived at the riverside, only to see Cliff Maxwell's followers coming over with grim faces. They didn't greet him either. Before Owen Bertram jumped into the water, one by one, they'd already leaped in!
Uncle was furious, "What does it mean?"
They didn't respond, having presumably planned ahead. Half of them remained in the Hunshui River to search, while the others swam towards the rogue river.
"They intend to find the corpse before us." said Master Basil: "It appears they are blaming us for Cliff Maxwell's death."
Uncle was angry, "That's unreasonable. Owen even saved Cliff Maxwell once."
Owen Bertram couldn't stop them, but he was clear that these people were jumping into their graves. If they couldn't find the ancient demon corpse, that would be fine, but if they did, those bloodsucking aquatic plants could easily suck them dry.
Owen Bertram wasn't going to delay either. After pretending to prepare, he leaped into the river.
Before dawn, Little Loach had crawled out of the tree hole and into the river. But today, Owen Bertram didn't dare demonstrate they were together, fearing the others might see.
After yesterday's feeding, Little Loach's body had grown to two zhàng long. In the water, it really looked like a small flood dragon.
Owen Bertram had wondered whether this fellow might grow horns or claws, but so far, there were no such signs on its head or body—all smooth to the touch.
