“You know,” he said to no one in particular, “I think I might like to go to dinner with Anne Fellows.”
We clinked our glasses and I saw a sparkle in his eyes that was missing for months.

As for my coming out, my time with Olivia was a wonderful transition. I don’t know if I could have moved forward without her. But she was seeing Tina and I was seeing…no one. It was the Sunday after Christmas. Tim called that morning to report that he enjoyed his date with Anne and that he planned on a second. I was feeling sorry for myself in the open room of Charlotte and Del’s loft. I lived in Westchester County and had no idea where to go to find someone to fall in love with. I was a forty-seven-year-old lesbian who had been with two women my entire life, the first over twenty years before.
Their boys were playing video games in their rooms, so we had the open room to ourselves. Del opened a Pinot Noir, and I was on my second glass. I was hungry, gobbling crackers and cheese.
