Part 8: Nice catch, Javier

I felt my right eyebrow lift and heard myself snort. I had an involuntary smile on my face too. I got to my feet and picked my coat and school bag and scurried to put on my shoes.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

I said nothing and headed for the door.

"The fuck no..." He jumped off the bed and his arms were wrapped around me in an instant.

I needed to get away. I couldn't cry in front of him, and I could feel my tears coming at full speed. "The fuck let go of me. I have class."

"It's pointless going for class when you're mad. Same as skipping it. Am sorry."

"Don't be. I don't let my feelings interfere with my studies so you don't have to worry about me." I told him and removed his arms from around me. "And maybe this idea of us was a bad idea in the first place. I don't think we'll work out."

Javier narrowed his eyes. "What exactly are you trying to say?"

"We are not working out. We should break up."

I watched him walk to his study chair and took a seat. He thought for a while.

Then he spoke, "I'm sorry. I know I said stuff and am rude. But that's just me. I don't know how else to be."

"I'm also rude. So, it's not about you." I walked to stand next to him. "I think I should be alone. I have nothing to offer in a relationship. Plus am too fragile, hurt over simple things... I can't keep doing this. I've been doing it for a long time now and am tired. I can't..."

My voice trailed off and I would have broken down in tears if I hadn't heard him sniff.

"Javier?"

"No, I don't get it. I've fucked round with some girls these past years but I haven't fallen for any of them. I haven't fucked with you but I fell for you." He sniffed again.

Taking a closer look at his face, I noticed he wasn't crying. He must be holding back.

"It's not about the sex. I just want to make sure you're really mine. That you're here to stay." He looked up at me. "I'm sorry, okay?"

I was silent. Was he saying all that because I broke up with him? He most definitely was. Why did all people have to be the same? Now I'm never going to find someone to love and have fun with and do stuff with...

"You know I..." He tried to hold my hand but I instinctively pulled away. "Adey?" Pain was displayed on his face.

I rubbed at the part that his hand had grazed. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. Just reflex."

Javier smiled and patted his laps. "Sit on me."

"No." The words were out of my mouth before his words fully left his mouth.

"Fuck. Just pushed someone that loved me into hating me enough to find me disgusting to touch." He breathed burying his face in his hands. "The greater the love the greater the hatred?"

"What? No, I don't find you disgusting it's just..." He didn't move so I sat on his laps, each leg on either side of him.

He stared at me in surprise.

"What? Suddenly don't want me back anymore?"

"No, don't say that." He cupped my face and gave me a gentle, slow but deep kiss.

No tongues.

"Thanks sweetheart." He hugged me to himself. "Come on, I think there's still time to catch your class."

"Sure." I got to my feet and he helped me into my coat. "Lift me up and give me kiss."

"No, I'm too tired. Emotions physically drained me."

"Come on." I started jumping. He kept standing straight, knowing that with my height, there was no way I could reach his neck.

I climbed on the bed. "Javier,"

He turned and gasped with shock. "Adey no, don't..." he was saying but I was already midair, jumping to him. He extended his arms and caught me. Grinning, I wrapped my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck.

"Nice catch, Javier." I kissed his lips.

He looked at me from the corner of his eye, and shook his head. He looked like he was regretting getting me back so soon.

"Are you alright?" Bruce asked at the end of our two-hour long lecture. "You've been aloof and silent all morning."

"Yeah. I'm alright."

"Boyfriend fights?" Bruce asked again.

"Yeah... Kinda... but we sort of made up I just don't understand why I..." I started but Bruce had noticed some curvy girl and was definitely preparing a first approach dialogue.

No one ever listened when I feel down. Why did they even bother asking?

"It's quite simple Adey," he half exclaimed. "Give him sex and you'll all be happy." And with that he was gone, after his clueless victim.

One thing stuck me though. Why did everyone assume every relationship issue was brought about by sex? In my case, Bruce was right but what exactly made him take that as his first conclusion?
