My Best Friend is a Hybrid

It’s the year 2073, and everything had changed. New high-tech dominates almost all aspects of life. This also has a dark side: unethical human experiments. 17-year-old Akira Cruz, the genius nephew of the president of the Philippines, was in the middle of grieving for his late best friend when he stumbled upon an abandoned orphan boy in the mountains while on a hike with his younger sister. That boy is Hachi Shimizu, a half-zombie, half-vampire who was disposed by an evil organization known as the Kara Tech, which was notorious for its brutal and unethical experiments. Together, the two boys would team up with a detective named Toshi Kawasaki, a half-Japanese, half-British who specializes in the supernatural and also considers the murder case of Akira’s best friend open despite the police closed it due to a lack of evidence. The three of them believed that the Kara Tech was somehow connected to the disappearances of various children in and around the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. As they go and solve cases, their friendship blossomed, especially when two people, Riho Yoshihara, Akira's childhood, biracial friend, and Htet Kawa, a half-Japanese, half-Burmese junior detective from Yokohama, had come along in their various missions, both involving the supernatural and the overworld. Will they stop the organization from committing more heinous crimes before it’s too late?

Chapter 39 – Blood…

Hachi's POV

At approximately 8:20 p.m., we arrived at Toshi's house. There we saw that the front door was unlocked, indicating that Toshi-san was already home. So, I just opened the door for myself and Akira to go in. "We're home," I greeted.

Then, we looked at Toshi, who was watching TV in the living room.

"Welcome back home, you two," he said to us.

"Good evening, Toshi-san," Akira greeted back as he and I are taking off our shoes.

We then entered the living room.

"Where have you kids been?" Toshi asked, before standing up and going to the kitchen to prepare some food for us. "You two came home late."

"Um, we just saved someone who was being beaten up by some thugs," Akira responded back.

This surprises Toshi, and he turned around. "What?"

"Yes," I replied back, "and I just beat them up so I could teach them a lesson and scare them away."

Akira then nodded to support my explanation.

 "Ah, I see."

Toshi then get some food from the fridge. "So, you kids are hungry? There are some leftover sushi and Takoyaki balls here." Then, I shook my head. "No, we just ate at that person's house after he was discharged from the hospital."

"And his mother's cooking is so delicious!" Akira added in positive enthusiasm.

Toshi was surprised to hear that while putting the said leftovers on the kitchen countertop. "Oh, really? What was that person's mother's cooking look like and taste like?"

"Oh, um…" I responded while trying to guess what cuisine it was.

I then looked at Akira, who then shrugged.

"I don't know either," he added.

Toshi then understood that. "Okay then, whatever food that person's mother was must be delicious for you two."

"Yup!" I replied back with enthusiasm. "It was so delicious."

"Yeah, but I would still eat some more food though," my adoptive brother added.

Toshi agrees and pointed his finger at the leftover Japanese food on the kitchen countertop. "Here, have some."

With that, Akira grabbed them and went to the dining table to sit down and eat them.

 "Want some?" he asked us.

"No, thanks," Toshi replied back. "I already have some last dinner."

"No, thank you, I'm full," I added.

Akira then understands that and started eating the cold leftovers.

The next morning, at the agency, me and Akira-kun are doing some paperwork at our desks in our department. Ever since we became official junior detectives, we were being given tasks like handling paper files of regular cases and such. This morning, work is work as usual for us. Akira was doing his job diligently, so as I. Our desks were a bit crowded with folders full of cases, both solved and currently under investigation. The environment in our department was not as busy as the previous days. We worked in the same department as Toshi and Valentino ever since we got hired.

Later on, at one of the agency's storage rooms, we were arranging some boxes and cleaning the room when suddenly, I felt some thirst for blood since I am a half-vampire, half-zombie. Because of that, my mind is getting distracted, before I became agitated by thirst. And then, I shivered and started to breath heavily, before growling and looking at Akira, who was stacking some boxes full of office supplies.

"Akira-kun…" I uttered while growling and still shivering.

Akira heard that and turned around towards me, only to be surprised to see my hangry state. "What's wrong?"

"I…I…I needed blood…" answered I as my body made approached him, "…I'm so thirsty…"

And then, hearing that, Akira became positive and said, "Okay, sure."

He then put down the box and unbuttoned some of the buttons of his buttoned-up shirt with short sleeves, showing his torso and shoulders to me. "Here, drink as much as you need. I won't fight back."

I was surprised to hear and see that while being hangry, but because I was desperate for blood, so I lunged at him, tackling him to the ground, before biting his left shoulder and drinking his blood.

"Blood…delicious…" I uttered while drinking his blood with my vampire fangs.

It seemed that Akira was calm, as evident by his lack of panicking or screaming.

Then, half a minute later, I was satisfied with my drink for blood, and so, I removed my fangs from his shoulder and pulled back, before licking my fangs with my tongue. "Thank you…"

And then, Akira opened his eyes and looked at me with a positive smile on his face. "Yup, you're welcome, Hachi-kun. I am happy to help you."

He then got up and looked at his bite. "Yeah, that was a big one."

"Yes, it was," I replied back, "are you okay with that?"

 "Yes, I am completely fine."

Akira then grabbed a white hand towel from his pants pocket and wiped the blood with it, before wiping the bite wound dry and buttoning up his shirt.

Watching how calm he was in this situation, I couldn't help but wonder why he was willing to give me some of his blood without any fear or hesitation.

But despite his offer, I started to doubt in my mind about his kindness.

At the same time, I don't want to tell him about Hashi, my deceased maternal cousin.
