Chaptet 05: We're Married

"You're out of your mind."

Liu Yan glared at his best friend. He couldn't believe that he would lie with a straight face in front of the doctor.

"Has staying in a foreign land muddled your head with doing shady things?"

Aidan let him rant, approaching the bed with an unfathomable look in his eyes.

"Honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if I see your face in television tomorrow." Liu Yan released an exhausted sigh. He walked towards Aidan and looked at the lady sleeping in bed.

He observed her from where he stood. Her face was round-shaped and pale. But the smoothness of her skin was similar to a newborn baby's. With her eyes closed, she looked like a statue of a maiden; innocent and pure.

"So… you're not really married to her, right?" Liu Yan turned to him.

He was Aidan's childhood friend. And being someone who knew almost everything about him, Liu Yan did not believe that his best friend really married someone without his knowledge.

"We're married... We just haven't signed the documents yet." Aidan gave him back the envelope.

A grave silence fell in the room.

In the next moment, Aidan watched Liu Yan retrieve his phone from his pocket and dialed someone.

"Hello, it's me. I'm going to send someone to your hospital… Yes, he's extremely mentally unstable… Symptoms? He's making up stories in his head–"

'Beep.'

Before he could report the worrying symptoms he thinks Aidan has, the latter had already taken his phone, walked to the window, opened it, and thrust his hand out while holding the phone in his hand.

At once, Liu Yan's expression froze. His eyes trembled in fear as he shook his head, begging the other not to throw his phone out of the window.

'They're on the 4th floor! And he just bought that phone!' Liu Yan thought grievously.

"Bro… I won't call the hospital. But you need to tell me what the hell's going on with you!" Liu Yan gently said, fearing that he might provoke Aidan further.

He still couldn't understand why Aidan was doing this.

Aidan was not so irrational to forget about explaining things to him. However, Liu Yan continuously opened his mouth without letting him speak.

"Ugh…"

"...?!"

The two men turned their heads to the direction of the bed.

The lady, who should be sleeping, opened her eyes, revealing a pair of brown almond-shaped eyes.

***

Slightly disoriented, Avery didn't notice the two men as she stared at the ceiling.

'Where…'

She closed her eyes. She remembered going to the party with her agent. But the overwhelming variety of scent of food and cologne made her feel uncomfortable.

She almost thought she was dying from the painful sensation that kept rising like a tide inside her. It was not the first time she suddenly felt nauseous, but what she experienced made her thought she was going to die.

And then, she got inside a stranger's car and asked them to send her to the hospital.

Avery abruptly opened her eyes again, and as she tilted her head slightly, she saw two men standing near the bed.

"You're finally awake!"

The first to speak was the man in a cutting-edge military uniform. His eyes were bright as he stared at her, as if he had been waiting for this moment his whole life.

"Liu Yan."

A deep, resonating voice sounded.

It came from the other man, who stood even closer to the bed.

Avery looked at him. It was the guy who allowed her to sit in his car. She recognized his very deep voice.

She tried opening her mouth, but her throat was dry. Avery coughed once to clear her voice when a shadow loomed over her and when Avery looked up, the man with the deep voice has already invaded her personal space with his hand holding a glass of water with a straw in it.

"Drink up first," his voice curt and short.

Avery nodded and accepted the glass, taking small sips of water to wet her throat and lips.

As she was drinking, the man with the deep voice suddenly said, "Go back for now, Liu Yan."

Liu Yan knitted his eyebrows and looked him.

"You want me to go now?' Liu Yan questioned.

Avery saw the man nod his head. The two looked at each other for a brief moment, seemingly conversing without uttering a sound.

Finally, the man named Liu Yan sighed and scratched his head. "Fine, I'll leave now."

"But you better explain what's going on when we meet later," he added before turning towards the room.

Liu Yan waved at her before he closed the door.

The man sat on the stool next to the bed and asked her, "How are you feeling?"

Avery replied, "A lot better. Tha… thank you...and I'm sorry."

Aidan looked at her carefully. Her face wasn't pale anymore. A tint of pink tainted her cheeks and the tip of her ears as she lowered her head.

"It's nothing." Aidan looked at her hands that had been fidgeting as she held the glass between her fingers.

"The medical test results were given by the doctor while you were sleeping. Do you want to see it?" Aidan added to ask her. He had already been informed of what was inside the test result.

Avery hesitated slightly before she nodded.

For the past couple days, she couldn't deny that something was different in her body. However, she was too busy to go to the hospital. Besides, she had already gotten her monthly check up last month and there was nothing wrong with her result.

'It shouldn't be something serious, right?' she thought to herself as she nervously looked at the medical result.

"What…"

What is this? Avery stared in shock at what was written on the paper.

Pregnant? Who?

She's pregnant?!

Contrary to what she was expecting or worrying about, Avery did not suffer from a serious illness. Rather, the cause of her nauseous and constant vomiting turned out to be normal signs of pregnancy and morning sickness!

"Is there some sort of mix up?" Avery raised her head to look at him as she asked.

She could feel the tips of her fingers growing numb and cold. The beating of her heart turning into angry drums banging against her chest.

Aidan said, "It was handed to me by the doctor who attended to you. But if you're not reassured of the result, do you want me to tell the hospital to do a check-up again?"

Avery nodded. She couldn't believe that she was pregnant.

But, half an hour later, the test result that was given to her still had the same words written on it.

The nurse also gave her a few pregnancy kit test and told her to use them.

Of course, Avery used all of them. And each one showed two lines.

'Would a different result appear if I move to another hospital?' she asked herself, but she knew that it was impossible.

She felt uncomfortable all over her body. She couldn't accept it. How did she end up pregnant? And she was even five weeks pregnant…

Avery didn't live a promiscuous lifestyle. And she and Mikael didn't share a bed for several months after he started to get involved in a romantic scandal with Lin Yu.

Was it a one-night stand, then?

Avery was unconvinced. She didn't like the smell of alcohol on her body. And with Su Tang's strictness, there was no way she could have gotten drunk and slept with someone.

Then, what the hell's going?

Sensing that something was wrong with her state, Aidan knew that it was a mistake to let her see the test result before she could completely recover. But he thought it was strange. Why was she acting as if she didn't know?

Or could it be that she really didn't know?
