CH 39: A DATE TO CATCH

ELENA'S POV

I paced around the hospital ward, my mind a whirlwind of emotions. Why was I so jealous? This wasn't part of the plan. I was supposed to be indifferent, just playing a role. But seeing Gabriel with Emily had stirred something unexpected within me.

Determined to clear my head, I went to see the doctor in charge. "I'm feeling better now," I said. "I'd like to leave."

The doctor looked at me kindly. "You need to take good care of yourself, Elena. And stop overthinking things. Stress isn't good for you."

I forced a smile. "Thank you, doctor. I'll do my best." Then, I added, "Gabriel is fine now, right?"

"Yes, he's recovering well," the doctor replied. "You two take care of each other."

I nodded, feeling a pang of guilt. Without informing Gabriel, I took a taxi back to the hotel, needing some time alone to sort out my feelings.
