Ashton, who was the person of interest, was having the same thought as the others.
He too thought that Phoenix would definitely accept him if he kept being persistent towards her, and showed his sincerity to be with her.
It was a lie to say that he wasn't frustrated before when Phoenix was keeping him on the edge for not answering his confession and hints that he had given time and time again.
Is this why Phoenix never gave him a definite answer towards his confession, and towards his advances? Because she had….a child?
Truthfully, he understands that. He truly was.
Having a child was a big deal. Phoenix must have a hard time deciding things. She had a child, and Ashton was suddenly barging on her life. She had to take everything into consideration. She must have to think about her child first before herself.
Ashton remembered what Phoenix had asked him before, when he was teaching Phoenix to dance in Paradise.
