"You're not serious, right, father?" She gasped.
Her eyes narrowed at him as she tried gauging his expression, but there was nothing to see. His face was blank, and the earlier excitement she thought was there was gone.
"Have I ever said something that's a joke, Genevieve?" His voice was low but serious…it was damn serious.
Genevieve sighed in relief. At least he wasn't calling her 'Eve' again, and she was grateful for that. It always sounded off and menacing whenever he called her that.
"How can you say the wedding is on when that news is spreading out there? You didn't even ask if I was fine or what happened to me last night. I'm just coming in, and all you can think about is the deal you made with Mr. Calhoun!" she yelled. Her whole body shook in anger as she tried to process everything. Her hair was scattered all over her face due to how shaky her head had been since the last minute of talking.
