When is the Feast?

Misty lay back on the couch, eyes closed. She could hear Jay and Kason rustling next to her. Back when she was working in her old life, there would be times she would be overwhelmed with all the projects and tasks she was required to do. Taking a moment to pause and empty her mind was one of the ways she kept herself from becoming too stressed.

Inviting the refugees to the estate to work was a monumental task. Misty wondered just how many job openings there were at the estate. She cracked her eyes open and looked around the room. The study seemed to be relatively cleaned up, but she knew that the library had dust all over. Was anyone else working at the estate besides Chez?

There was also the matter of the traya they needed to address. Jay seemed to think that he had some time before he had to deal with it but Misty could feel that his time was running out. Traya's have a weakness to water. Luckily, Jay possessed water mana and he might be able to use it during the fight. Misty wondered how much he had trained in using water magic. When the time finally came to deal with it, she hoped they could all be ready.

Then there was the matter of meeting with Tamult. Melcar and Astera didn't say it, but she felt that if she missed the opportunity to do that, it would not be good. She just hoped that this wasn't a fire and brimstone when angry kind of deity.

She closed her eyes and took a few more meditative breaths before suddenly clapping her hands together. Jay and Kason looked over at her, startled. Misty decided the first thing she needed to do was find out about going to the temple.

"When is the Feast of the Dragons?"

"It starts in ten days." Kason replied.

"I will need to go to it." Jay and Kason looked at each other in concern. Kason seemed to want to say something, but Jay shook his head. Misty frowned.

"Is something wrong?"

"It isn't that." Jay murmured.

"Then what is it?"

"The Feast of the Dragons is a yearly ritual that represents the cycle of order and chaos. It is also the time when many go to the temple to give thanks to Tamult."

"That doesn't seem like a bad…" Kason interrupted her.

"There are a lot of people at the feast." He paused before saying. "It is a time of mating." Misty's eyes widened.

The Feast of the Dragons is a mating ritual? Misty thought, alarmed.

"Do you really need to go?" Jay asked. Misty nodded. She looked over to Kason and felt her face begin to flush.

"Jay, do you remember in the temple, when we talked about my vision during the testing?" He nodded. "I..uh…" Misty began, "I passed out in the dining room." She glanced over to Kason who was also turning red. He turned his head in guilt. Misty realized that Kason must have felt horrible at what happened. It wasn't every day that your mate's soul got summoned to the in between, but Kason had no clue what had happened, just that she passed out after he touched her. She cursed under her breath before grabbing Kason's hand and pulling his face close to hers. She gave him a soft kiss before pulling back.

"I didn't pass out because of what we were doing." Misty took a few moments to tell Kason about her quest and update them both on what Melcar and Astera had told her. Misty was glad that this wasn't the kind of world that forced her to keep things like that secret.

"So, you need to go to the Feast of the Dragons and have the priest hold a dedication ceremony?" Jay said with obvious relief.

"Yes."

"That shouldn't be too hard to arrange. We can just send a letter to the temple." Kason had already gone over to the desk and started writing. Misty was curious. She hadn't had a chance to see any of the writing from this world. She walked over to the desk and could see Kason writing in a strange language. Her eyes began to blur and for a moment, she was dizzy. Then the strange language shifted to words that she already knew.

Having an encyclopedia uploaded in my head sure is convenient, Misty mused. Jay also walked over.

"We will have to go to the temple to finish the assessment, we will combine the two." Misty remembered his relief a moment ago.

"Can you tell me why you were worried about me going to the temple during the feast?" Jay stilled but shook his head. Misty couldn't help thinking that he looked very cute.

I wonder if he is worried I'll find another mate. Misty almost chuckled, but she suppressed it. It did seem that the moment she left Jay's side, she woke up to find Kason right in front of her. Part of her was glad that she wasn't having to try very hard to find her mates. The other part was worried that finding them too fast would make their relationships harder. Misty thought back to her old world and what people suggested couples do to build their relationships.

With the mate mark, it was like putting the cart before the horse. It wasn't easy doing everything backwards.

Do people even know what dating is in this world? Misty wondered. Misty decided that for the next 2 weeks until she went to the temple that she would try to get to know both Jay and Kason better. There was no knowing when fate would cause change and she knew that they could only work with what they had. If they don't know what dating is, I will invent it here!

Kason had finished writing the letter to the temple when Chez walked back into the study.

"Subte Jay, do you think Misty might want to take a tour of the estate?"
