Back at his base, Ethan paced back and forth, feeling uneasy. It wasn't the villagers he was worried about, he knew they could handle themselves, and he had helped them as much as he could. No, this feeling was something deeper.
Lately, I've been changing, he thought. I don't even recognize myself sometimes.
He had always been about survival, doing what he could to get by in this strange world. But now, he was helping people, taking on fights that weren't his own. Something was shifting inside him, and it scared him. He didn't know if he was becoming stronger, or if something else was pulling him in another direction.
Ethan stopped and stared at his packed supplies. Maybe I should leave. Get as far away as possible before whatever's happening to me gets worse. He didn't want to be around others, villagers or anyone else, if he couldn't control himself.
He began to gather the rest of his gear, his mind set on leaving and finding a place far from people, far from distractions. I need to be alone for a while.
As he packed the last of his items, a sudden chill ran down his spine. He froze, the feeling of being watched creeping over him. Slowly, he turned around. There, standing in the shadows of his base, was a tall, ominous figure.
The creature's skin was pale, and its eyes glowed red like burning embers. Bat-like wings extended from its back, and a cruel smile played on its lips, revealing sharp fangs. The air around it seemed to thicken, as if it was warping reality just by being there.
"You…" Ethan muttered, instantly on guard. He gripped his sword tightly, his heart racing.
The vampire stepped forward, its smile widening. "Lord Uyou that the name that you mortal should say ," it hissed. " You've made quite a name for yourself when you kill master creation, haven't you?"
Ethan frowned, his mind racing. Master? What creation? Then it hit him, the mutant zombie he had killed not long ago. "That Mutant?"
Uyou chuckled, its voice dripping with arrogance. "Indeed. A mere experiment, nothing more. But my master didn't take kindly to you destroying it. I'm here to fix that mistake."
Ethan's grip tightened on his sword. "So he sent you to kill me?"
"To kill you, yes," Uyou said, its wings flexing. "But I'll take my time. After all, where's the fun in killing you quickly?"
Before Ethan could react, Uyou lunged forward with terrifying speed, slamming into him with enough force to knock him off his feet. Ethan hit the ground hard, barely managing to roll out of the way as Uyou's clawed hand slashed down where his head had been moments before.
Ethan scrambled to his feet, his heart pounding. He's faster than anything I've ever fought. He swung his sword, but Uyou dodged easily, moving like a shadow across the floor.
"You're slow, human," Uyou taunted, his voice a low hiss. "You can't hope to keep up with me."
Ethan narrowed his eyes, watching the vampire's movements. He had to stay calm, focus on his enemy's weaknesses. Uyou might be fast, but Ethan had something the vampire didn't, strategy.
He feinted left, then quickly switched his stance, slashing his sword in a wide arc. For a moment, it looked like he might land a hit, but Uyou sidestepped, laughing as he swung his claw at Ethan's chest. The blow connected, shattering part of Ethan's armor and sending him stumbling backward.
"Pathetic," Uyou sneered. "Your armor is useless."
Ethan gritted his teeth, feeling the sting of the vampire's attack. His chest burned where the armor had been torn apart, but he couldn't let that stop him. I need to keep my distance, make him come to me.
He backed up, raising his shield just in time to block another of Uyou's slashing attacks. The vampire's claws scraped against the shield with a screeching sound, but the force of the blow nearly shattered it. Ethan knew his equipment wouldn't hold out much longer.
"I can't fight him head-on," Ethan muttered to himself, dodging another strike. He's too fast.
The fight continued, Uyou darting around like a shadow, his wings carrying him effortlessly through the air. Every time Ethan tried to strike, Uyou was already gone, slashing at him from a different angle. More pieces of Ethan's armor broke apart under the vampire's relentless assault.
Ethan panted, feeling his energy draining fast. I can't win this fight the way it's going. His mind raced, looking for a way out, a strategy to turn the tables.
"You're not even worth my time," Uyou said mockingly, circling around him. "I could end this whenever I want, but I think I'll make you suffer a little longer."
The vampire swooped down again, aiming for Ethan's back. This time, Ethan was ready. He rolled to the side and swung his sword as hard as he could, managing to clip one of Uyou's wings. The vampire snarled in pain, but it was only a minor wound.
"You'll pay for that!" Uyou hissed, his eyes glowing brighter with anger. He charged at Ethan again, faster and more aggressive this time.
Ethan blocked the attack with his shield, but the force of the blow shattered it completely. The wooden pieces clattered to the ground, leaving Ethan with no defense. Uyou grinned, sensing victory.
"Now you die," the vampire said, lunging at Ethan with his claws extended.
But Ethan had one last trick up his sleeve. Instead of trying to dodge or block, he stepped into the attack, grabbing Uyou's wrist with both hands. The vampire's claws dug into his flesh, but Ethan held on, ignoring the pain.
"What are you doing?" Uyou snarled, trying to pull away.
Ethan smirked through the pain. "Just buying time."
Before Uyou could react, Ethan used all his strength to pull the vampire toward the window. Sunlight was starting to pour through the cracks in the wall as the sun rose higher in the sky. Uyou's eyes widened in panic as he realized what was happening.
"No!" the vampire screamed, struggling to break free. "You can't"
But it was too late. Ethan pushed Uyou into the sunlight, his claws still stuck in Ethan's arm. The vampire let out an ear-piercing shriek as the sunlight began to burn his skin.
"You...!" Uyou howled in agony. "You can't defeat me!"
Ethan gritted his teeth, refusing to let go. His entire body was shaking with pain, but he held on, forcing the vampire further into the light. Uyou's skin began to sizzle and smoke, his body breaking down under the intense heat of the sun.
"I'll see you in hell," Ethan growled, pushing Uyou into the full beam of sunlight.
With one final scream, the vampire burst into flames, his body disintegrating into ash. Ethan stumbled backward, his body aching and bloodied, but victorious.
As Uyou's remains blew away in the wind, a small, glowing black crystal was left behind on the ground.
