Chapter 10

“We’ll be back with it soon.” He smiled at her, trying to ignore the fear at his kidnapper’s fury. Stumbling out of there, Eli’s heart beat so hard, he feared it’d come loose.

As they turned the corner of the building, he scanned the area, hoping for a truck driver or some other witness who would prevent the man from beating him.

“I told you not to speak,” the man growled.

“I know, but she looked concerned. It would’ve been weird if I didn’t talk.”

The man grunted, his anger level melting down to one of annoyance.

As a metal door with a small bathroom sign came into view, Eli frowned. Is this all?A single room with a metal door? He tried the key. It fit. Glancing at the man, he opened the door and was about to step inside when a large hand gripped his upper arm.

Panic rolled over him, and Eli whimpered. His breaths came fast as he tried to yank away. The man’s eyes had turned a cold blue as he glared at Eli. “Don’t lock the door.”
