Midory felt confused and worried, her premonitions never failed, but there was something strange about them, as if something else was alerting her, it seemed that her senses detected things that she could not understand yet, it was not a sense of danger, it seemed like perceiving the future, that's how she felt since she entered high school and ran into Byron.
Could it be that Byron represents something different in my hunches? But what would it be?
Byron was in a dilemma of how to start the conversation, the importance of starting well was making him nervous, it was different from other times where he could speak with ease and with a touch of humor.
Maybe his problem was the content of his message and not so much talking about it, it would be the first time he would talk to another person about his secrets, he was nervous about Midory's reaction, but he also wanted to know if she was like him.
A relic bearer.
That's what the people with whom she had faced to survive called him, since he obtained the ring and discovered its secrets he was harassed by people with bad intentions, people who always repeated the same two words and caused him uncertainty.
Dijins and relic bearer.
Relic Bearer was a reference to him, researching a little in history books he discovered a 17th century myth about the so-called "Relics of Humanity", objects that amazed the world of those times, but were hidden because of the evil they brought. .
Byron did not understand what evil they meant.
The word Dijin was the biggest mystery for him, the translation he got from his brother Daniel when he asked him was a word: Demon.
It meant devil in a Middle Eastern language, the feeling that perhaps they were referring to real demons made his fears of the unknown increase.
He made sense if he remembered the power his ring gave her, an ability that frightened and amazed her in equal measure.
Could he convince Midory when he and he didn't know if what he was saying made sense? The answer was no, and that made him uncomfortable.
Midory felt strange, she had been looking at Byron waiting for him to say something, but he had remained thoughtful just like her.
"What was he looking for on the roof? Was he looking for her? Why would he? Did he want something from her? She didn't know him, talking to him suddenly seemed too rushed, she didn't want to talk to him and she wasn't willing to say anything" Those thoughts made her hostile.
"What are you doing here?" Midory asked annoyed, hoping to get information out of Byron and get him away from her.
"Is it forbidden for people to come here?" Byron said in response, feeling bad.
The beginning of the conversation was very abrupt due to feelings of hostility, Midory was attentive to Byron's gestures who only smiled uncomfortable.
"This won't go anywhere if I go along with it, I have to smooth things over" Byron thought a little more calmly, although the beginning was quick and bad, it allowed him to release a little of his nerves, now he felt better to carry a conversation.
"I came to rest for a while, being surrounded by people tires me" he lied easily looking at Midory's expression, his eyes had given her away, they dilated when he heard about being tired of people, Byron at that moment deduced something from Midory, she was lonely, the company bothered her, that could help her "I see that you too, what do you think of each one in their own here?" He continued with a slight smile, Midory watched him for a moment before turning away without saying anything.
Byron smiled victoriously, he had fallen into his trap.
"I don't care, but don't expect me to talk to you, I don't like it" said the girl indifferently walking towards the iron mesh.
"Don't worry, I won't force you to do it" said the boy with a soft tone, he saw how the girl relaxed a little because of his words, she approached then pretending to be in her thoughts, she had already managed to calm the bad start, now she had to win her trust, that was easy if he knew what she was thinking.
Midory pressed the fingers of her hand in the metal mesh lost in her thoughts, Byron watched him, noticing some features that he recognized.
"Fear, doubt and longing, it seems that she misses something from her past, maybe an event, an object or a loved one, if she had to choose it would be the last, Midory does not seem like the girl who would miss something material, if she stays away from everyone it's because he doesn't trust them, that is, he has lost trust towards others, that could be due to someone or something, I'm sure it was because of someone, I should avoid mentioning it" Byron reasoned before speaking.
"You know, I also miss the past, when everything was happiness and peace" he said with a touch of sadness, that phrase was very generic, it could evoke almost any memory and it was very useful when people like Midory thought about the past, Byron knew how evoking feelings in people was a skill he developed on his own, though he believed his brother was better than him at it.
Midory looked at him surprised, she never thought that Byron could feel the same as her, she tried to hide her reaction by looking towards the horizon, but for the boy it was very obvious, she continued with her story.
"Sometimes I think about whether I am in the right place, if the decisions I made were worth it, and although memories tell me no, my present tells me something else, do you think it is possible that the past is better than the present Why do I think so" I finish talking wondering if that would make the girl talk.
"I think the same" she said in a low voice a little embarrassed, Byron looked at her surprised without expecting her to speak so soon, he hoped it would be more difficult, could it be that Midory had already thought many times on that topic and had come to the same conclusion that the? That surprised and scared him at the same time.
"She looks like me, we both have lost something and we don't know how to get it, what a strange feeling" thought Byron mocking his situation a little, it was true what he had heard once from a friend of his father when he told him what in love with his wife.
"There are people just like you, who went through the same situations and have reached the same conclusions, those people are the best to be happy, because they give you the opportunity to discover yourself every day, that's why I love her, her It makes me see how important I am in his life and therefore, that I am living well" those profound words had only scratched the surface of the boy's mentality, but now that he knew Midory he could agree with that man.
"To think that on the other side of the world I would meet a girl just like me, could I fall in love with her over time?" Byron shuddered at the thought of her looking at Midory, she returned his gaze not knowing what to say, out of habit the boy smiled making the girl do the same, although more subtly.
He remembered the purpose of his talk and continued the conversation.
"My parents think that I will never be able to surpass my brother in anything, they assume that Daniel, my older brother, is the best I can get as a person, that makes me think that if I were to be a child again, I would have no problem trying, but I'm not a child anymore, I feel that achieving that goal is impossible, it's hard isn't it? Not being able to meet your goals when you're supposed to" Byron mentioned casually, thinking to himself that Midory would fall fast in her movement.
He knew how easy it was for others to give advice, he hoped she would, it would empower her to trust him, but Byron was wrong about something, he was thinking of Midory as a girl from his country, America, but Midory she was Japanese, the Japanese don't give their opinion if they don't trust someone, their relationship hadn't reached that degree yet, so the girl just nodded, looking at the horizon again.
The boy smiled uncomfortably realizing his mistake, it seems that persuading someone from another country was more difficult than he thought.
Midory thought for a moment before saying:
"You know Howard, I think we can get along, I hope I haven't been too rude to you" Midory apologized to him after realizing her mistake, she had treated Byron like an enemy, she had her reasons, he was a foreign boy who gave her bad feeling, she didn't know him and his actions were strange to her, but after hearing what he thought, she found similarities with her, maybe if she tried, she could get along with him, not be friends, but not enemies either.
The boy smiled when he saw that the girl had considered him an ally, that made things easier for him.
"Thanks, you can call me Byron, if you say my last name you'll make me see how my father is, I'm not that old" joked the boy adjusting his hair, Midory giggled accepting Byron's words.
"Okay, Byron" she said with clear eyes, something inside the boy moved, he felt nervous, as if his body was floating.
The next few minutes were spent talking, Midory was a shy girl but she knew how to have a good conversation, Byron had it easy, little by little he guided the conversation to create an atmosphere of trust and ask questions that would give him clues, but the answers of the girl were confused.
"I've never heard about the Dijin, I didn't know what demon meant, it sounds good, it doesn't end with ma, sometimes I have trouble not laughing when I talk to my mom" Midory's joke was impossible for Byron to understand, but he laughed for courtesy, most of the things the girl said didn't mean anything consistent to the boy, but he accepted it due to cultural differences.
Midory's joke was about the word Demon in Japanese, Akuma, she says ma to her mother, so whenever the llama thinks she is talking to a demon, it made her laugh because her mom was anything but a demon.
Byron had already spent his resources to get information out of the girl, he hadn't found anything, but he didn't felt that he had lost something, Midory was amazing, he was sorry that she didn't talk much and the others won't talk to her, she would be very popular for sure.
The boy was about to leave with an apology when Midory mentioned something that put him on alert.
"Demons like relics" she said in a low tone thinking of something.
Byron breathed heavily trying to collect her mind.
"My grandmother told me a story where demons existed, that they always sought to steal what was most precious to people with their lies, all because they yearned for something, objects that belonged to humans, her moral was beautiful, don't envy what you don't it's yours or you'll end up like hell, I liked listening to it when I slept, it brought me peace" he said with a sad tone, Byron understood that gesture, now he knew who Midory missed, he didn't say anything although he had many questions.
After a while Midory sighed, the boy took that as an opportunity to talk.
"What do you think about that story being true? That the part about the demons and the relics exist, would you believe in it?" Said the boy testing the ground, the girl looked at him for a moment before shaking her head.
"I can't believe in something I can't see or touch, it's impossible for demons to exist, except for the relics they seek so much" she said convinced.
Byron grew anxious, and in a tremulous voice he said:
"If I could give you proof that they exist, would you be willing to see it?" Midory began to suspect something as she thought for a moment, although what Byron said was impossible, she did not reject the idea that he would show her evidence, she was not against giving him a chance, she nodded in response and the boy took it as a free pass to their actions.
"Just don't be scared okay?" Said the boy taking a few steps back, the girl looked confused as she said yes in a low voice, Byron extended his right hand closing his eyes, he concentrated the energy around him in the palm of his hand and gave it shape, with a snap of fingers something magical happened. Fire had come out of the air burning the boy's hand, although he didn't feel pain, that fire was different from normal, he couldn't hurt him unless he wanted to.
Midory's face turned pale, she couldn't believe her eyes, Byron realized that the girl couldn't speak and that she would surely run if she said something that she regretted in her heart, she had been wrong to show her her secret, it was a shame.
Without waiting for what the girl was going to say, she launched the flames towards her wanting to knock her out, Midory let out a terrified scream, unable to move, the fire approached her face and she instinctively closed her eyes, covering herself, after that, she fell unconscious to the ground.
Byron sighed to himself, he would have a hard time convincing her that it was all a dream and that she had passed out while they were talking.
The boy thought about how to approach the subject when the girl woke up, but he heard footsteps going up the stairs, nervously he made a quick decision grabbing Midory's body in his arms, at that moment a dark-haired girl appeared before him, they both looked at each other in surprise.
