"No! Oh god please tell me you're joking doctor!" Lisa Moore couldn't disguise the pain in her voice upon hearing the news. Her son, that she put so much effort into raising until now, was a dud.
"I'm sorry to tell you this ma'am but it's the truth, I can't find a way to activate whatever his quirk is. They usually aren't this difficult to figure out but we've been trying to figure this out for the past two hours now, my colleagues haven't had any luck either and I'm at a complete loss as to what it might be." The doctor spoke remorsefully to Lisa.
"T-there must be some kind of mistake! Try again! Keep trying until something happens! Abel! Try to lift the dumbbells again! Maybe you just weren't trying hard enough, surely you could easily lift them now right?" Thomas ushered Abel back to the dumbbells on the floor.
"Wait just a second, I already told you people that he didn't inherit your quirk. If he did, he would've been able to lift it during his first attempt. You're clearly stressing the poor boy out, just look at him! He looks like a overworked salaryman, let him rest for a bit. He's clearly tired from all of the tests that we took, but for now, I'm going to bill you for the quirk examination.
Since you insisted on doing more quirk tests for your son, you bill is more costly than usual. Please go to the secretary at the front desk to fill out the rest of the paperwork for your son's examination. Now if you'll excuse me, I have another patient to see. Have a good day Mr. and Mrs. Moore." The doctor threw Abel a look of pity before quickly leaving the room. He had a feeling that shit was about to hit the fine, but he would not be anywhere near it when it happens.

Abel glanced at his parents as he clutched his head, he didn't know what to say to them. He was hoping to cheer them up but they clearly didn't want to say anything at all for right now. So instead, he observed them as he tried to soothe his worsening headache.
'Ah, a nine hundred dollar bill for one quirk examination... maybe I should've moved to a country that had free healthcare before I became a hero.' Thomas wanted to become a villain right then and there. He was seriously considering it, but he knew that he wouldn't last long in a country that has a hero with a Mystery class quirk as their poster child.
He couldn't do anything but suck it up and fill out the paperwork at the front desk. Thomas and Lisa watch as a good portion of their savings went down the drain for absolutely nothing.

"Damn, that's Thomas Moore? He looks like shit. I almost feel bad for him but he did it to himself. It's a shame that his wife and kid has to go through this though. Sucks to be them I guess." A man with short brown hair in a black suit spoke to his colleague.
"Shut it, we're not here to make comments on his life choices. We just have to see if his son is doing well. Thomas has been raising him despite his current situation but it might be better to just put the poor kid in a foster home. Remember that, after all we can't just walk up to them and try to take the kid. Evidence of neglect first, CPS later. Got it?" A woman with long red hair reprimanded him shortly after his remark. She didn't appreciate the fact that her partner seemed to not take this seriously, or anything serious as a matter of fact.
"Yeah yeah, I hear ya. Let's just get this over with already, I got better things to do then stalking losers like Thomas." He replied with an irritated tone.
It obviously annoyed her when he would just brush her concerns off, but she could handle it. Still didn't make it any easier to deal with though. She let out an audible sigh as she kept her eyes on the homeless family, following them from the safety of the rooftops.

They family of three began walking back to the bus stop with unreadable expressions on their faces. Silence filled the air, the only sounds that came to their ears was the occasional honk of a car or one that drove past them. They continued to walk without saying a single word to each other, it started getting dark out but they were closer to their tent that they hid in a alleyway by a dumpster.
THUMP THUMP THUMP
Abel didn't know why, but he felt shivers run through his entire body. He should feel safe, he's with his parents. His dad was a pro hero, his safety should be guaranteed. But as of right now, he never felt more scared in his entire life. He has watched as his father defended him and his mother from criminals and other homeless before, and he felt safe then.
'Why? Why dies it feel so dangerous here?' Abel couldn't help but think this through his blaring headache. It was as if someone was trying to pry his skull open with their bare hands. It hurts. Abel wanted to go back to the hospital to get his head checked, but when he looked over to his parents they were starting to get farther away from him.
"Mom? Dad! Wait! Wait for me!" Abel picked up his pace and ran after them. Each time he took a step towards them he felt his body scream at him to turn around and run away. It was like he was a mouse that was unknowingly moving closer to a sleeping snake.

Abel was about to reach his parents when he felt as if his brain was going to explode. He knelt down and clutched his head while letting out a wail of agony. He felt a breeze fly over his head as he was kneeling, Abel quickly looked up and saw his father's leg pass over his head and crash into the brick wall. It deformed around Thomas's leg as he pulled it out of the wall with ease.
"Wha- *Sigh* Even now you're being a pain in the ass! You useless little twat, I don't know how you dodged that but you should've just let it happen. Now it's going to be more painful for ya, I should've known that you would have been nothing but a waste of time and money! I should have trusted my gut and aborted you, ah shit, but those cost too much..." Thomas grumbled to himself as he approached Abel.
Abel fell backwards and froze, he couldn't keep up with everything that was happening. His quirk was a dud, his father wants him dead, and now his head had never felt so vulnerable until now. So many emotions and instincts are swirling inside of him, but he couldn't express them all at once.
Fear, sadness, confusion, despair, anger. His mind is telling him to run, run away and don't look back. But his body is rooted in place, he felt sick. In his weakened state, he couldn't get up to run or at least defend himself. He forced himself to crawl backwards to get away from his father, who looked like he was only having a minor inconvenience throughout the whole ordeal.
'Why? I'm your son! You raised me and cared for me, why would you say those things to me? Why would you try to kill me? Do you really despise the weak that much?' Abel wanted to speak, but no words came out. He was suffocating, but at the same time he wasn't.
Abel started to drone everything out, only focusing on his father. Everything felt strangely peaceful and quiet for a second, as if time had froze.

But that was far from the truth, Thomas raised his foot to stomp down on Abel to crush him to death. He seemed pleased that Abel had finally stopped moving, until he felt a sudden splitting headache hit him like a truck.
THUMP THUMP THUMP
"What the fu-" Thomas's ears were suddenly assaulted with the sound of his own brain sloshing around in his head.
THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP
POP!
Before Thomas could comprehend what was happening to him, he was already dead. Blood, bone, and chunks of his brain were scattered all over the alley. His body hit the ground next to Abel with a loud thud, snapping the boy out of his daze.
"Y-you! You little monster! You were hiding your quirk!? I'll kill you for this!" Lisa shrieked as she pulled out a three inch knife and lunged at her son. In her mind, he had just killed the man that she loved. She couldn't care any less about Abel, he may be her first child but she could always make more.
"AGGHHH!!!" Abel screamed as his mother slashed at his face, she managed to cut him deeply on his lips.
"FREEZE! DROP THE KNIFE AND PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR WHERE I CAN SEE THEM!" A sudden shout caught the attention of Lisa as she looked over at the two suited individuals walking into the alley towards her.
"Jeez Sammy, did you really have to scream so loud? I think my ears are bleeding." The other suited individual grumbled tiredly.
"Now is not the time for your snarky bullshit Rian, and I told you not to call me that!" Samantha tried to whisper back but it ended up as hushed shouting.
Lisa glared at them, her grip on her knife tightened. She stepped over her injured son's body, not worrying about him as he was writhing in pain on the filthy concrete ground.
POP!
She only took a single step towards the two before her head exploded in the same way Thomas's did. Her headless body crumbled to floor immediately, her neck was spewing blood like a gore fountain.
Samantha was speechless, she didn't dare step closer in fear that she would meet the same fate as the woman in front of them. She looked over to her partner for orders on what to do.
Sure she's delt with narcissistic little power hungry brats that killed their parents for not being able to do what they want but this is different. The parents were trying to kill their kid, and he killed them in self defense. But it was the way that he killed them that sent chills up her spine.
His mother was looking at them one second and then BAM! Gone the next. It scared Samantha, she knew deep down in her gut that this was something way out of her pay grade.
"Don't move Sam, I know a guy that can deal with this for us. Just don't let the kid out of your sight while I make a call." For once, Rian spoke to her in a serious voice that wouldn't take no for an answer. They both watched as Abel slowly sat up, his hand covering his mouth.
Samantha nodded as Rian slowly took out his phone and dialed a number in. The call immediately went through, so Rian put on speaker for the three of them to hear.
"Rian, it's rare for you to call me. What is it that you need this time?" A deep, playful voice came through.
"I need you to get your Association to Skid Row, I got an interesting one for you."
Here's the second chapter of MHA Darktide, I hope you guys enjoy. I've been having a bit of writers block for my Pain fanfic so I'm focusing on this one for now.
