Melting Her Cold Heart

Cheated on by her fiancé weeks before their wedding, Sara, vowed to never love again. Men could not be trusted, especially with a woman's heart. She had made the mistake once, and that was more than enough for her. Never again would she make the same mistake to give her heart to another. But her resolve began to waver when she came across her new boss, Alexander Legend, a man whose reputation in his expertise and ruthlessness in business preceded him. Respected and feared by many, but to Sara, he was an annoying pest she wished she never met. Too persisted for her liking yet, she finds herself falling, slowly melting in his presence. Getting used to his stolen kisses and hugs and sometimes anticipating them. °°°°° Excerpts “You will fall for me, Sara. One day, I'll have your heart too,” Alex drawled. His voice had a seductive allure that had her heart racing. The fact that his hand was leisurely resting around her waist didn't help her either. “Try as much as you want to,” despite her body begging for his touch, Sara was determined to reject him today and any other day. She couldn't make the same mistake again. “You won't succeed in your seduction. NOT NOW. NOT EVER.” Alex smirked, kissed behind her ear and her body trembled, much to his satisfaction. That was all he needed to keep purising the stubborn woman in his arms right now. “We shall see, Miss Ambrose,” he cooed and then released her. He returned to his seat and asked in a professional tone. “What is my schedule for today?”

You really forgot, huh?

The next day, inside a coffee shop, Jessa sat with a woman sitting opposite to her. They each had a cup of steaming hot coffee in front of them. None of them spoke for a while until Jessa cleared her throat and decided to break the ice.

"So that's him. I want to know every dirt on him," Jessa uttered, looking at the photo placed on the table beside the other woman's cup of coffee.

The woman smirked and cocked a brow. "What could this hottie have done to incur your anger?" She picked up a strand of her blonde hair and twirled it around her finger.

"Cut it, Bern," Jessa said with irritation. "Just get me enough dirt to destroy him. Nothing more."

"Now I am even more interested, Jes. Who is he?" Bernice pressed only to receive a glare from Jessa, but she didn't stop and kept on pressing.

"Do your assignment right, and you'll know who he is in no time," Jessa uttered and stood up. "Find him, Bern amd make it quick."

Bernice let out a tired sigh, placed her chin lazily on her palm, and said tiredly, "Alright. I'll try, but it won't be quick. I know nothing about the a**hole who willingly offered himself as your target."

"Fine, but don't take too long, else I'll replace you," Jessa uttered before she walked out of the coffee shop.

"You are still no fun, are you, Jessa?" Bernice shook her head and smiled. "Oh..

Well, I guess I should get to work then," she picked the picture and looked at it once more before shoving it inside her bag.

"What have you found?" Alex asked. He was already seated behind the desk in his office with a phone on his ear. He raised his gaze to the door when he heard a gentle knock.

"Come in, Miss Ambroee," he did on a professional tone.

"Is this a bad time?" Kai asked the moment he heard the name Alex called. Although, he sounded professional, if it was anything like the last time, their conversation and mode of addressing each other could change at any moment.

"No. Just answer the question. What have you found?" Alex replied to him while he gestured with his hand to Sara, who reluctantly approached the desk, but she had no expression on her face. She is even more professional than him.

"I have, and some files have been sent to you. Check them out when you can," Kai said, and Alex hummed.

Alex knew Kai had more to day, so he remained silent, waiting for him as the silence stretched. Sara tried to distract herself, but she couldn't help listening to the conversation even though she could only hear one side of it.

"I doubt they know who she is she is yet, but they know she is in city's capital," he revealed, and Alex hummed, even nodding his head even though Kai couldn't see it.

"Return as soon as you are done," Alex said. Kai whined a little, but he didn't mind. "Be careful, Kai."

"I will."

Alex put down the phone and stared at Sara. He had watched her the whole time, and although she acted as if she wasn't listening, he knew she was. "Is there a problem, Miss Ambrose?" He asked, making her look up at him. "You are a bit different today."

"I am fine," she said, although she felt flustered.

"Hmm," Alex assessed her for a little while and then sighed inwardly. "Then this has to do with last night?" His straightforward question caught her off guard, but then again, he was right. It had a lot to do with the dinner last night. "I won't know what the problem is unless you speak, Sara. What is it?"

"As I said, Mr Legend, there is no problem at all. If there is any problem, work related, I'll be sure to consult you or anyone whom I am certain will be of assistance," Sara uttered.

She had to admit that knowing he was Adam's uncle rubbed her the wrong way, but it also gave her a little comfort. He wasn't a total stranger. She may not know him, but he knew her. It explains how he seemed to know so much about her, but it didn't explain his interest in her. He would have been her uncle had the marriage pulled through. So what was he aiming at?

"I didn't mean to keep it away from you," he suddenly said, rendering her confused momentarily. "My relationship with the Crawfords, I didn't mean to keep it away from you," he clarified.

"I see absolutely no reason for you to apologize for anything. Whatever it is, that is your personal life. It has nothing to do with me," Sara uttered and stood up.

"Williams Crawford is indeed my father," he said, causing her to pause again. "But it is more complicated than you'd think. I promise to explain it all to you one day."

"You know you don't have to…." He stood up, and she paused.

"I don't have to, yes. But I want to," he went around the desk until he was right behind her, and she turned to face him squarely. "I want you to know the man who is courting you."

"Why?" Sara asked. She looked around but couldn't find a way out. He had her cornered between himself and the desk behind her. "Why are you hellbent on courting me? You and I don't know each other. This is practically the third day since our meeting. So, why?"

"You really forgot, huh?" He said, a little disappointed, but then he smiled shortly. "That is fine. I will get you to remember everything again. No matter what."

Sara frowned, not understanding the words he was saying.

"I hope you'll forgive my way of getting your memories back because I won't keep my hands to myself anymore," Sara blinked when he said that and panicked when he raised his right hand. "I didn't have breakfast. Could you make arrangements for that?" He said with his eyes on the wristwatch.

'What?!' Sara was at a loss. After all the talk and having her thinking weirdly, this was all that he would ask?
