Chapter 49_ Vaccinated

"Senior Eira, are you sure? I'm confused about All black being there. I'm not comfortable with the idea please" I pleaded. As much as possible, I wanted to stay away from All black. I wanted to avoid him as much as I could. What if he recognizes us from the kitchen? What are we supposed to do then?

"I warned you not to call him that again. If you call him all black, then you'd be the one selling us out" senior Eira warned me sternly. It was true though, she had been constantly warning me to stop giving people names but l could not help it. However, that wasn't the issue now, what was important is running. Running very far away from all black. "Ok but let's go" I pleaded, my legs already wobbling and my eyes getting laced with tears. Mia's pigeon laughter filled my ears and I stared back at her with horror. She had her lips sealed and her mouth humming an annoying sound.

"Is that what friends do Mia ? Laugh at one another?" I frowned at her. She was so pesky, always finding every minor situation to laugh at me. She had been doing it before but it increased ever since we refused to stay back with her and went with senior Eira.

She had a thunder look while her hands knitted her brow " Really? Please tell me what friends do girl. You've been the very best friend right?" she asked me sarcastically. I chose to ignore her. After all, it's not everything a dummy say you reply to.

A light knock on the door signified the arrival of the medical staff at our door.

"They are here" senior Eira whispered.

Then she listlessly nodded her head " I'll get it" and she moved slowly towards the door. I was watching her closely, her hands weren't shaking and her legs weren't wavering. She had that confidence in every step even if it was a slow one. Where does this senior get her confidence from? It was admirable. From where I stood, my hair stood on end, Even my feet were shaking like a leaf in my shoes. I was sure Mackenzie's heart would be hammering in her chest right now but when I glanced her way, she had this numb expressionless look on her face and instantly, I knew she was not scared in the least bit.

So it was just me? I was the only scared puppy? I didn't like that so I managed to maintain a bold face too.

The door that got opened by senior Eira was followed by four medical staff dressed in Hazmat suits and All black who had a face mask on and his hands in his pocket.

All black never failed to live up to his name. His black leather shoes were shining like a cooking oil on a pan while his black suit that was a bit lighter than his shoes were properly ironed and the air of formality surrounded him. He was good-looking, if he was someone's dad, then they had a good looking dad except for his little bit crooked nose that shows he must have been involved in a ruthless fight before and his nose suffered for it. I was too stupefied to talk, this was on senior Eira and Mackenzie. All black gives me the chill.

" Room number 16, Mia Anderson? " one of the medical staff said looking from each one of us to the other. Probably wondering why there was four instead of one.

Mia answered him even though his question was rhetorical and birthed out of his curiosity at finding four occupants in a room that was registered to be under one room.

"Mia Anderson here" she proceeded to move closer to them.

The medical staff with the paper who spoke earlier shot us all a look of contempt and tapped his leg on the floor. " Care to explain young ladies?" he asked.

"Is anything wrong?" all black asked him and the other medical staff were also at alert.

"What's wrong?" they all chorused. I was shocked to hear senior Eira's bold response. It was as if she didn't care if all black was present or not as if his presence doesn't affect her. "We were not registered as occupants of this room. " she told them causing them all to look her way " we got lost in the whole virus drama and were unable to use the portal like most of the others. So, we could only hide nearby and when we heard of the vaccine, we scouted for an empty room to discover this one has only one occupant," she said without mincing words, her lie that wasn't even rehearsed. Double accolades to senior Eira for winning the award of the best liar around.

Damn! She's good.

If I was the one, I would be stammering and batting my lids. Thank God she was here because I was sure if it was either me or Mackenzie, they would have reckoned we were lying.

"So, you've been out in the open for close to three days?" another medical staff asked.

Senior Eira nodded confidently" Yes" she said.

I thought the medical staff were getting convinced a little but all black revived their doubts. He walked inside the room and walked about looking from left to right. " So magical students, what have you been eating?" he asked and we all turned to him. He saw the confused look on our faces or maybe it was just my face, the others might have anticipated that question. "You know, during your hiding aways, what have you been eating?" he rolled his index finger which showed he was not convinced. He was probably wondering if we were the girls from the kitchen.

"We did not eat for a day during the time the virus was rampant and the infected were walking around the school but when it all died down, we came out and found students like us who were willing to share their food with us even if it was barely enough to fill them up " Mackenzie was the ne that spoke.

All black was not convinced "Students like you? Where?"

"In the hostels but we could not stay there because they were already more than three in the room that was why we located this place "Mackenzie further explained.

All black turned to Mia " Mia Anderson, is that true?" he threw the question at her then, " Think well before you answer because if we found out they are lying, you will be punished along them"' he added.

My fingers were crossed waiting for Mia to affirm we were speaking the truth but I knew Mia was not good at lying. In here was a stone silence at first then Mia struggled to talk. I knew she was timid, just hope she wouldn't sell us out " I... They." she struggled to say but then she made a loud blaaargh sound before rushing to the toilet.

We all rushed to her after exchanging mutual glances. We found her sitting on the floor, her head in the toilet sink while her hands were placed on its lid to support her. She wasn't pretending but was really vomiting. I ran to stand beside her while patting her back lightly.

"Is she infected?" we heard a voice say from behind. It was one of the medical staff And what kind of question was that? If she was, it was their job to find out not us.

And my Mia was definitely not infected. The pressure of having to lie when she could not and the option of if we were going to get punished or not laid on her shoulder made her panic.

"No, she's not" Mackenzie defended. "We've been with her since the early morning, if she was infected she would have died after infecting all of us too"

"Give them their vaccine shots, we cannot afford to take infected students back to the main building with us" All Black said scratching his beardless chin.

Take us back to the main building? I knew it, all black's presence would ruin the whole thing.

"Excuse me sir?" senior Eira inquired. He turned his face to look at her " Yes, you heard me right. All three of you are going back with us. Isn't it strange how I'm searching for three female students who stole from the kitchen to find exactly three female students whose names weren't recorded in any of the quarantined dormitories." he widened his lips " Strange isn't it?" he asked rather rhetorically.

No, it's you who is strange and behaves like a maniac, I wanted to tell him.

"Sir, that has got nothing to do with us "Mackenzie replied him boldly.

"Why don't we find that out later?" he turned to the medical staff" Please give them their doses"

They unlocked a box in their hand marked with an x in red ink. Inside the box were vials that contained the vaccine and in another box was series of syringes. Each staff picked each one of us and took to injecting our shoulders with the syringes already filled with the content of the vial.

They gave us two doses of different vials. The first one lettered with Zero and the second one with two in block letters he led us on. Finally, we stopped in front of the dean's office and all black turned to us for the first time since he has been leading us to an undisclosed destination.

"Wait here" he said to us and knocked on the dean's office. He went in immediately after the dean's voice ordered him in.

"I knew he was bringing us to the dean" senior Eira said immediately all black was out of earshot.

Oh no, the dean!

I shrieked in fright "Isn't that even worse? The dean? "I turned to Mackenzie "Remember we were in his office not up to 2 weeks ago and we're yet to complete the punishment he gave us! Now, this ?" I started blabbing.

I don't know why it felt like I was disappointing a father by having the dean hear complaints about me again.
