Chapter 39_ It's Empty

I felt stupid really, Mia was not trying to be

my bestie. She was only trying to make me

come out with her so she could boast of

her super duper brain. She only wanted to

show me she was the smart one. Saying

nonsensical words about Mackenzie and all. 

The books she said she wanted were probably lies. What was I talking about saying probably? They were lies, she said it herself. 

She only wanted to follow her so she could

save me. Save me huh? Save me from a

friend? A good friend? Why? Because she

was lucky to have been able to get hold of

her powers really fast?

Ok, maybe Mackenzie getting hold of her

powers so fast was fishy and questionable

but then, l'd never say accusing words behind her back. Whatever doubt I have,I always made sure to say them to her face not behind her.

I don't know which was more annoying, Mia

lying to get me out to follow her so she could bitch out and act all mighty and smart or me being stupid enough to follow her because I thought she was remorseful and

trying to be my bestie.

"Oh, Medusa grow up already!" I groaned

out loud.

Mia placed her new glasses to sit well on

the ridge of her nose. " What's wrong love?"

she asked me.

I gave her a murderous look as I squeezed

my lips together and clenched my soft fists

beside me and turned in the direction that

leads back to the hostel we exited from.

"Where are you going?!" she dragged me

with a loud whisper. She was whispering

probably because she didn't want to attract

attention to us. We were still out in the open

and were at risk of getting busted by All

black or any other mean teachers scouting

for erring students to punish. Why? Because it was their hobby!

I wonder what All black gains from making

life boring and miserable for us.

'He is only trying to make life favoring for

you later by making life harder for you now

It was only discipline he is instilling in you.'

The annoying voice in my head said to me.

Please, ignore it!

"Shut up, "I said to it out loud. Mia thought

she was the one the shut-up was for.

"Medusa! At least lets finish this since we

started" Mia urged me and I heard the pleading tone in her voice.

I stopped walking back to the hostel and

turned to her " You said you only called me

out to tell me this and not for the book. Now

that you are done preaching the gospel of

saving myself to me, can't you just allow me

go back to the hostel in peace?!" I almost

shouted. I was so pissed, my anger level

was at it's very best. A hundred percent!

No, I will give it an addition, a hundred and

twenty percent!

"Yes, but wouldn't it look suspicious we

came out to get books and then we go back

In practically few minutes after without the

books we claimed we wanted to go borrow?"

I scoffed, borrow huh. "You mean books we

wanted to go steal?"

"Stop it already Medusa, we wanted to go

borrow the books without the librarian's

knowledge. It's not stealing, circumstances

made us want to do it." she threw her hands

in the air.

If she was getting frustrated then I wish she

could know how frustrated I was also. I

was more frustrated than her. I felt stupid.

was going to tease her so much. No, not

tease, I am going to threaten the hell out of

her.

Rolling my eyeballs, I eyed her " Then I tell

them why we didn't go to get the books. It's

simple, Mia only fooled me into following

her outside so she could tell me to harbor

suspicious thoughts about Mackenzie. Why? Because she felt she was harmful." I

shrugged and made to continue walking

back to the hostel.

"You don't mean it girl" she shouted behind

me not bothering to keep her voice low now.

I thought she was smart, why was she

being so stupid now yelling when we were

outside when we shouldn't be.

I hated the thought of having to deal with All

black all over again so l stopped in my

tracks and turned back to her. "Will you

keep your voice low? Fine, let's go" I had to

give up.

My fear of All black made me surrender

and I had to agree to go to the library with her.

We started walking in the library's way and

was inwardly praying we shouldn't encounter problems with no senior, Teachers and most especially All black.

The man gives me the creep.

Soon, we were at the front of the library.

Mia had no idea how we were going to carry out the stealing plan. It was obvious she

was a mama's girl. She reminded me so much of Anas, naive, composed and staying away from trouble.

That was the mainly the only reason why I

liked her. If she was Medusa, my mama

would have been proud. She was the type of

well mannered daughter mama wanted.

Come to think of it, there wasn't anything

well mannered about her now right? She

was snitching a close friend.

Fine, I agree there was sense in what she

said. Her claims about Mackenzie were almost true but we should not jump into

conclusions without having seen her done

any bad stuff. So far, except for using her

powers to help us out when we needed it,

she hasn't done anything that warrants her

being tagged a bad person.

She called me out to save me?!..

Outrageous!

I shot her a glaring look when she said she

had no idea how we were going to carry out

the plan.

"You're unbelievable Mia!" I clamoured.

She scratched her eyes lightly under her glasses before speaking with such an innocent voice, one would mistake it for a nightingales'. "What? You take the lead. You are the leader now, I will follow your

instructions." she poured out.

So now l'm the leader?! I shook my head

violently while scattering my hair. I brought

my face to her " So now I'm the leader?"

"Medusa, please " she whispered

pleadingly. Again, her pleading got me. I

don't know why I'm so soft hearted. Those

who wronged me only needed to say sorry

and then, they are my besties!

Wait, what if Ajax comes and said...'Hey

Medusa, I'm sorry' Would he be my bestie

too? Never!

We were whispering now that we've gotten

so close to the library. Someone might be

inside!

"When we get closer to the door, we bent

near it while I sneakingly check for any

movements around the library. If there was

none we go in but if there is, we go back to

the hostel" I proposed and then looked at

her face to see if she agreed with me.

Her countenance showed she was being

thoughtful and considering the odds of

what I proposed. Well, she was not in the

position to calculate odds or be picky. I

could turn back and go back to the hostel in

peace. "Agreed?" I asked impatiently.

"Agreed" she repeated and nodded.

"Good"

We ran to the library's door and bent near it.

Slowly,I brought my head up and stole a

sneak peep at the inside of the library.

I was expecting the librarian or the

annoying jerk to be in the library. Surely, the

curfew must have caught them in the library

They were always in the library and that made me wonder if there was anything going on with them.

I saw the librarian eyes glint with something

more than an harmless admiration when

she saw the annoying jerk the day he told

her to allow us have the books.

Well that was none of my business, if they had anything going on between them, then it's....

It's..

I could not find the perfect word as I felt a little stabbing pain in my heart.

I brushed it away and focused on the job at

hand. Slowly and cautiously, I traveled my eyes around the library and affirmed it was

empty.

No one was in, not even the librarian. I

guessed it was our lucky day.

I stood more comfortable now and without

bothering to whisper like we were doing

before, " Get up, let's go in" I said.

"What are you doing, keep your voice low"

Mia whispered and tried to drag me down

"Hide!" She scolded.

I threw her hands off me which made her

bent ass fall flat on the floor " It's empty!" I

said. I did not bother to tell her sorry for

pushing her, I did not even consider it.

"It is?" She asked rhetorically. Her voice

had traits of surprise in them.

Yeah, I was surprised the library was empty

too.

"It is" I laughed repeating her words and

turning them into an affirmation from the question they were.

"Really?" She stood up with a smile and I

opened the door widely.

We ran inside amidst laughter. Maybe

coming with Mia to the library wasn't a bad

idea after all.

We can have privacy, I was already getting

sick of having four people in the room.

"Let's go back to the hostel at night.' I said

to the Mia that was already searching the

shelves for a suitable book to read.

She nodded still distracted by the books"

Yeah, let's " she muttered.
