Chapter 8

From Daunte's POV

I told Dominic to go to Alpha Markus' meeting in my place. I knew Hector wasn't interested in going and didn't want to be in business with Crestview Pack.

Since I trusted Dominic with all my business, I knew he'd be able to handle a small meeting.

(Flashback)

Knock knock

"Come in," I said. I was busy going over the documents Katia had sent over when Dominic walked in.

"Logan said you were looking for me," Dominic said as he sat in the chair before the desk.

"Yeah, listen, I need you to go with Jonathan to Colgate to meet with Alpha Markus," I told him, not looking up from my laptop.

"Colgate? You mean toothpaste?" he replied.

"What?" I said, looking up from my screen.

"Who the fuck is Colgate?" Dominic said, chuckling.

I shook my head and replied. "You know what the fuck I mean, Bro."

Dominic burst into laughter and said, "You must really dislike Alpha Markus to talk shit about his pack name."

I looked at Dominic and cocked a brow. "You're right. I don't like him. I also don't trust him. Something about that pack is off, and I need to do more digging. So, while you are at the meeting, I will be patrolling his pack," I told him.

"I see," Dominic replied, then added, "What are you looking for exactly?".

I sighed, running my hand down my face. "Honestly, D, I don't know, but I have the strangest feeling about them, and I want to know what it is," I replied.

"When is the meeting?" Dominic asked.

"Tomorrow, Jonathan will arrive to take you," I told him.

Dominic nodded as he stood up from the chair and headed out.

(End of Flashback)

I had been patrolling the outer area of the Crestview pack for about an hour when I came up on the little hill where I had seen the red-headed girl. I made my way over and looked around, hoping perhaps to see her, but found no traces of her scent or her.

My last encounter with her had been weeks ago. Everything in me told me that I would see her again, even though I had no idea why I was drawn to her. I was about to climb up the little hill when Dominic's voice came through the mind link.

"Can you believe this bullshit? They treat their omegas like fucking slaves," he said.

"Explain," I replied.

"I don't know who this girl is, but when she started handing us water, she spilled it and broke a couple of cheap ass glasses. They even said they would deduct it from her salary." Dominic replied with anger and frustration evident in his voice.

"What's her name?" I asked.

"Alessia, but get this, she's not even a pack member. She claims her parents died in a car accident, and Markus and Helen took her in. I can only say that the girl looked like she had seen better days." Dominic said.

"And you don't believe the car accident is true?" I asked.

"To be honest, Fuck NO, and Jonathan doesn't buy it either. There's just something about her that's off," Dominic replied.

"What the fuck does that mean?" I said.

"Well, it seemed like she was scared of Beta Jared. It was like he held power over her, but honestly, all I know is you need to be here for the meeting," Dominic said.

"Doley noted. I'll meet you back at the packhouse," I said, cutting the mind link.

Alessia. There was something about that name. Whatever it was, I had to put it aside for now as other things needed my attention. I quickly shifted into my wolf and made my way back to the Onyx Fang Pack.

As Romo began making his way through the field, he shifted direction and headed back towards the Crestview pack border.

"Can you explain what you're doing?" I asked, trying to push forward, but Romo had blocked me. He had never done this before, but it was clear he wanted to maintain control for some reason.

"You'll see," Romo replied after a few moments as he made his way to some bushes, lowering himself to the ground.

In front of us, I could see the same red-headed girl I had seen on the hill. The sadness on her face was more evident. She was walking at a rapid pace, staring off into the distance. I could feel the pain radiating from her. We watched her as she walked past us, then slowly Romo stood up and walked away.

"I swear there's something about her," I said as Romo trotted toward the fields again.

"She needs help," Romo said.

"How do you know?" I asked.

"I can just tell," he replied before he took off running at top speed.

Forty-five minutes later, we were back at Onyx Fang. I shifted back, grabbed a black bag from the bushes, and threw on some sweatpants as I approached the front door. I was just about to open it when a car pulled up.

"Daunte, what a surprise to find you here," Jonathan said as he stepped out of the car.

"Ken Doll, where's Barbie?" I asked, chuckling.

"Dude, I swear if we weren't good friends, I'd have fucked you up already," Jonathan said as he shook his head.

I loved making him cringe, but to be fair, he did look like a Ken doll. "So, how did the meeting go?" I asked.

"I'll say this: you and Hector need to get out there. Something is going on," Jonathan replied.

"I told you," Dominic said as he walked past me and inside the pack house.

"That bad, huh?" I said.

"Dude, I've worked with Dominic long enough to know when he's pissed, but this has him on the edge. I mean, he went off, but to be honest, the way they treated that girl was fucked up," Jonathan said, then patted me on the shoulder and added, "I have to get back, but I'll have Hector filled in and you too can set up a meeting with this cat."

"Alright, thanks, man," I said as I patted him on the back.

Making my way inside, I headed up to my room. Once inside, I made my way to the bed and sat on the edge, rubbing my hand down my face as I signed deeply.

"We need to go back," Romo growled.

"We will," I told him, getting up and heading to the bathroom. After taking a shower, I headed to bed. As I closed my eyes, the only image that came to me was that of the red-headed girl, leaving me with one question: "Who is she"?
