As Leo and Wendell advanced further into the 7th floor, a trail of dead guards lay in their wake. Wendell walked over them with a disapproving expression, clearly unhappy with the brutal methods employed by Leo.
Their journey led them to a heavily guarded vault, constructed with bulletproof vibranium. Leo activated his suit's scanner and confirmed the strength of the metal, realizing that breaching it would be impossible.
While Leo contemplated their next move, Wendell crouched down and began interacting with the roaches that had gathered around him. Leo's attention was drawn to Wendell's unusual connection with the insects.
Curiosity piqued, Leo asked Wendell if he could control the roaches or if he could merely communicate with them. Wendell nodded, explaining that he could instruct the roaches and work alongside them, rather than commanding them outright.
Realizing the potential of Wendell's unique ability, Leo opened his scanner once again, searching for small crevices or openings that the roaches could infiltrate. He found a few possibilities and turned to Wendell.
Leo asked Wendell to command the roaches to infiltrate the vault through the small openings. Wendell, with a determined look, nodded in agreement. He focused his energy and communicated with the roaches, instructing them to enter the vault.
As the roaches formed a queue and entered the vault, Leo continued to scan the surroundings, searching for a way to open the sealed vault from the inside. As he knew that breaching it would be impossible.
Leo's eyes widened with relief as he discovered a fail-safe panel within the vault. It was precisely what they needed to unlock the vault without causing any damage. With Wendell's unique ability to command the roaches, this task became much easier.
Leo turned to Wendell and transferred the location of the fail-safe panel, instructing him to guide the roaches to the switch and press it. Wendell nodded, his concentration focused on communicating with the roaches and relaying the instructions.
With Wendell's guidance, the roaches made their way to the fail-safe panel. The tiny insects worked together, crawling and manipulating the controls until the panel activated. The vault's mechanisms whirred to life, and the heavy doors began to crack open.
Leo wasted no time. He swiftly pulled the doors apart and entered the vault. Inside, he found Dr. Akihiro, their target, huddled in a corner, accompanied by another scientist. Both of them were visibly terrified and demanded to know who Leo and Wendell were.
Leo stood firm as he approached Dr. Akihiro, his tone stern and determined. "I have been sent by Ose to escort you back," he stated.
Confusion etched across Dr. Akihiro's face as he scratched his head. "But why?" he asked. "I thought my contract here still had two more months."
Leo brushed off his comment, emphasizing that he was here solely to fulfill his mission of escorting Dr. Akihiro. He made it clear that there was no room for further discussion or questions.
Dr. Akihiro, realizing the authority of Master Ose, reluctantly complied. "If it is Master Ose who sent you, then I have no power to defy it," he said, resigned.
Meanwhile, another scientist in the room seized a gun and pointed it at Leo, demanding answers about the fate of the guards and expressing his concern for his own safety. Also, he refused to let Dr. Akihiro leave, fearing the consequences if classified information was leaked.
Leo swiftly moved, pushing Dr. Akihiro into Wendell's care and taking a step closer to the armed scientist. With a cold and menacing voice, he demanded the scientist lower his weapon or face the consequences.
Dr. Akihiro interjected, urging them not to resort to violence and to find a peaceful resolution. But the scientist continued to threaten, stating that he would not let Dr. Akihiro leave, even if it meant sacrificing his own life.
Seeing no other choice, Leo acted swiftly and decisively. He pulled the trigger, ending the scientist's life. The sound of the gunshot reverberated through the room, leaving Akihiro and Wendell shocked and angered by Leo's actions.
"Why did you kill him?" Wendell shouted, his voice filled with disbelief and anguish. "He was an innocent man!"
Leo remained composed, his eyes steady. "There was no time for debate," he replied. "The backup could arrive at any moment. We must leave now."
Despite their reservations, Dr. Akihiro and Wendell reluctantly accepted the reality of the situation. With heavy hearts and conflicted emotions, they followed Leo, leaving the room.
As they sprinted down the hallway, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed in front them. Before long, Leo, Wendell, and Dr. Akihiro saw a group of heavily armed guards emerging from the staircase room. Without wasting a moment, the guards opened fire, bullets whizzing past them.
Reacting swiftly, Leo shouted, "Take cover!" The trio dove behind a nearby wall, narrowly avoiding the hail of bullets. Akihiro was pulled to safety, finding refuge behind Wendell's protective frame.
Amidst the chaos, Akihiro gathered his thoughts and spoke up. "I need to go back to the lab," he said urgently. "There are important experiment schematics that I can't leave behind. They are the result of years of hard work, and I can't let them go to waste."
Leo, still engaged in the gunfight, was resolute in his decision. "We don't have time for that," he stated firmly, emphasizing the urgency of their mission to escort Akihiro to safety.
But Wendell, caught in the middle, saw an opportunity. He turned to Akihiro and asked, "If you retrieve those schematics, wouldn't it make Fisk even more furious? He might go to great lengths to track you down."
Akihiro paused, weighing the risks and benefits of his decision. After a moment of contemplation, before Akihiro voiced, Leo interjected, "Alright, we'll go to the lab," he declared, determination gleaming in his eyes. "But we have to move fast and stay alert." As Leo realized the potential benefits of acquiring the additional information about Fisk.
As Leo returned fire, skillfully neutralizing a few of the guards and creating a temporary opening. "Now's our chance," he said, motioning for the others to follow.
They dashed through the gunfire, evading bullets as they made their way towards another staircase. The guards continued their pursuit, but with Leo's strategic maneuvers, they managed to stay one step ahead.
