At noon, just outside Osborn Industries, the students wrapped up their tour, waiting to head back.
"Ugh, Oscorp is such a bore. All they do is talk about the company's history and all the weird experiments they run on spiders, lizards, and even mice. Seriously, who cares?" one student grumbled, earning nods from others.
"Hey, where's Mr. James? He stepped out earlier, but he hasn't come back."
"No idea…" another replied.
Hearing the chatter, Peter Parker shook his head, feeling dizzy. He slipped away from the crowd and started heading home.
Meanwhile, at New York Police Headquarters, Noah sat across from a detective in the interrogation room, a fresh set of clothes on but his demeanor calm as ever.
"Name?"
"Noah White."
"Gender?"
"Male."
"Home address?"
…
Noah anticipated this line of questioning since the bank incident and was fully prepared. If the city saw his actions as something requiring a jail sentence, he figured New York had grown far too "civilized" and could use a shake-up.
With his current strength—almost inhuman—he wasn't worried. Breaking out of a prison if needed would be easy, and if he spent a few years training, the authorities wouldn't even stand a chance. He could save the world from villains like Thanos later; for now, he'd consider giving New York a bit of a reality check.
Outside the interrogation room, Chief George skimmed through Noah's background file.
The details were sparse: his parents were immigrants but lost everything to gambling. They later died under mysterious circumstances, found in the street with organs missing. Noah, on the other hand, seemed to live a simple life, attending school, recently joining a gym with a costly membership, and missing more classes than he attended. Yet somehow, the cops picked him up for "attempted bank robbery," all because he skipped school.
Judging from his record, Noah hadn't committed any crime—technically. He had no job but seemed to have plenty of cash, which raised questions.
The officer in the room broke the silence, narrowing his eyes at Noah. "According to the records, you don't seem to have any source of income. So, care to explain where all that money comes from?"
Noah shrugged. "I recently won the lottery. It's a pretty big sum, actually." He smirked. "But this has nothing to do with the robbery, so I'd prefer not to answer."
The officer stared at him, stumped and unable to respond.
Just as the questioning resumed, a knock at the door interrupted. The officer sighed and opened it to find Chief George standing with a man in dark sunglasses, leaning on crutches with bandages covering his hands and feet.
"Chief, who's this?" the officer asked.
Noah raised an eyebrow, recognizing the man instantly despite his mask. This was Daredevil, or rather, the lawyer Matt Murdock—the same guy Noah had sent to the hospital not long ago.
"This is Noah's lawyer," George explained, still baffled. He couldn't understand how someone with such a tragic background suddenly had legal representation showing up, especially a lawyer who looked like he had just escaped a brawl.
"My client acted in self-defense, and he's the actual victim here. You have no grounds to keep him detained," Matt stated, his voice firm.
Three hours later, Noah and Matt emerged from the police station. Although technically released, Noah's movements were restricted to New York City, and he'd be under supervision in case of any developments in the investigation.
Walking down the street together, Noah turned to Matt. "Why'd you offer to represent me?" he asked. "Wouldn't you rather throw me in jail?"
"Would jail even hold you?" Matt replied, not missing a beat. "We'd just end up with another criminal running loose. I don't want to see a repeat of Bullseye wreaking havoc."
"I've read up on your background. I don't intend to help create another social menace. Although, if you're willing to change your ways, there's still hope."
Noah chuckled. "Huh, I always thought you superheroes were hell-bent on wiping out every 'villain' you saw. Didn't think you'd be so…understanding."
Matt sighed. "Consider it thanks for not finishing me off last time. And, honestly, with your strength and abilities, have you thought about using them as a force for good? I could teach you what I know, the way my mentor taught me."
Noah raised an eyebrow. "Teach me?" He glanced at Matt's bandaged hands and feet. "Need I remind you who sent you to the hospital?"
Matt's jaw clenched. "That was because you took me by surprise. You rely on brute force; my techniques are still superior. Next time, I won't go down so easily."
Noah smirked. "Then why didn't your so-called 'skills' help you sense my ambush? I'll pass. If I wanted, I could just throw my weight around and steamroll anyone in my way."
With a dismissive wave, he added, "Thanks for your help today, lawyer. You can go back now. If I run into more 'legal issues,' I'll be sure to call you."
Matt's shoulders sagged, defeated. Noah turned at the street corner, heading for the gym, his phone buzzing with missed calls from teachers, classmates, and even the school principal.
As he walked, he noticed a missed call from his teacher, Mr. James, and decided to call back.
After two rings, James answered hesitantly, "Noah…are you…still at the station?"
"Nah, just a quick round of questions. I'm on my way home now," Noah replied. "Actually, with all this happening, I was thinking about taking a month off to recuperate."
James's voice softened, far from his usual stern tone. "A month? I don't have that kind of authority, but I'll talk to the principal. For now, just take it easy, alright?"
"Thanks, sir." Noah hung up, satisfied.
Interestingly, James hadn't asked why Noah skipped classes or even mentioned the bank incident, which suited Noah just fine. Sometimes, people preferred not to know the whole story.
Turning off his phone, Noah headed to the gym, itching to release some tension after a long day of idle waiting.
