Th3 crowd's murmur intensified, disbelief rippling through them.
Some chuckled nervously, thinking Niklaus' words were just a metaphor, a powerful figure of speech.
But when they saw his expression—dead serious, without a hint of humor—their unease deepened.
Niklaus let the silence linger, his piercing gaze sweeping across the audience. "You think I'm speaking in metaphors? No."
"I'll say it again Gods walk this Earth."
And I'm one of them thought Homelander.
A stunned hush fell over the crowd. Eyes widened, breaths hitched.
They had come to hear a hero speak, but what they were getting was something far more chilling.
"People have no idea what kind of world they live in,"
Niklaus continued, his tone sharp. "This world is dangerous. Very dangerous. There are things—beings—that the comman cannot even begin to comprehend. "
"What you've seen so far? Mutants and other superpowered people they're nothing compared to what lurks in the shadows, what exists beyond common understanding."
People shifted uneasily, some glancing at each other with uncertainty.
The enormity of his revelation startling to say.
Was this the truth? The world they thought they knew suddenly felt small and fragile.
Niklaus shook his head, his voice low but cutting through the crowd like a blade.
"Common people? They pass by things like vampires, demons, and sorcerers every single day, and they don't even notice."
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle. "They've convinced themselves it's all bullshit, fairy tales, and superstition."
" But the truth? It's right there, hidden in plain sight, subverting that false sense of security ingrained in them since birth."
The crowd was visibly unsettled now, some looking around as if suddenly wary of what might be lurking in the shadows.
Niklaus continued, "And it's normal for them not to see it. It's normal because thats how they have seen the world from the beginning."
"They want to believe that the world is predictable, that nothing can reach out from the darkness and tear it all apart. That's the lie they cling to."
He straightened up, his gaze turning distant. "I was the same. Blissfully unaware… until I wasn't."
Homelander paused, shaking his head slightly as if realizing he'd gone off on a tangent.
"Anyway," he said, his tone more casual now, "I went on a long rant there for no reason at all." He gave a dismissive wave, the tension in the room not easing at all.
Shifting his stance slightly, Homelander returned to the question at hand. "As for Penelope lying? Well, you could call it a half-truth, but it's not a lie." He leaned forward slightly.
"She really did start Vought because she wanted to create highly available, affordable healthcare. "
"She was sick of this blood-sucking system and wanted to change it."
Homelander's expression softened, his voice turning playful. "I became a hero because, honestly, I couldn't sit still, even as a kid."
" I just felt this need to go out and do something. Being painfully aware of every single atrocity around the world does that to you." He chuckled, lightening the mood.
Jay scratched the back of his head, looking a bit uneasy. "Okay, that was… something. I definitely don't want to ask any more questions that'll fry my brain," he muttered, glancing at Homelander with a nervous laugh.
Homelander chuckled in response, clearly amused. "Yeah, probably a good call."
Jay, eager to switch gears, asked, "So, let's ask something fairly normal then. Favorite food?"
Homelander's grin widened as he leaned back. "Pizza. Any kind, really. I don't have to worry about eating healthy, so I eat one almost every day. Though, I've got other indulgences too."
He gave a playful shrug. "I'm not exactly the poster child for disciplined eating. Impulsive eater, through and through."
The audience chuckled, and Jay relaxed a little, feeding off the lighter mood. "Really? That's kind of surprising."
Homelander smirked, his tone turning sarcastic. "Yeah, my mom used to nag me about it all the time. 'You can't just live off junk food!' But look at me now." He gestured to himself with mock pride, which got a good laugh out of both Jay and the audience.
Jay chuckled along with the crowd, finally at ease. "Well, pizza every day sounds like the dream."
"Trust me," Homelander replied with a wink, "it has its perks."
Jay, now feeling more relaxed, asked, "Alright, how about your favorite book?"
Homelander shrugged, a playful grin on his face. "Well, I don't read much. You know, running Vought, saving the world, spending time with those close to me… not a lot of free time for sitting down with a book."
He paused for a moment before continuing, "But I've read some of Tolkien's stuff—The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings. Good works honestly."
" But there's this other thing I came across recently, a Japanese manga—basically their version of comics—called Berserk. It's not exactly famous , and definitely not something you'd call PG or for everyone its pretty heavy in its tone."
The crowd seemed a bit confused, some whispering among themselves, and Jay raised an eyebrow. "Never heard of it. What's it about?"
Homelander chuckled, clearly enjoying the opportunity to explain. "It's dark, brutal stuff. Follows, a warrior with a giant sword who's pretty much constantly battling demons, betrayal, and his own inner struggles. Not your typical superhero reading, but I loved it. Something about it just hooked me."
Jay blinked, taken aback. "Wow, that's… not what I expected."
---
Jay swallowed hard, finally mustering up the courage to ask about the elephant in the room.
"So… about what happened last week. You killed a lot of people, wiped out entire facilities, and directly interfered with the government, Forced the president to resign. "
"While I get it's for a noble cause, don't you worry it sends the wrong message? The people who hate mutants… they're just scared now, hiding, but their views haven't changed. "
" In a way, aren't you proving their fears right by showing how dangerous the superpowered can be?"
Homelander went silent for a moment, his gaze fixed on Jay, making the interviewer visibly nervous.
Then, without warning, he turned his head toward the camera, his eyes piercing through the lens, addressing the millions watching from home.
"You know," he began, his voice calm but heavy with emotion, "the old me would've never done this. I used to just want to help the world. "
" That's how it all started. But that want… it turned into something more—into a need to change the world when I saw things that made my heart wrench."
"In the eyes of people I'm a hero a beacon of hope, someone who has saved there lives in one way or another"
He paused, his expression hardening. "But I'll be the first to admit it—I'm really not the hero-caped beacon of hope everyone thinks I am."
"I'm just someone who has the power to do what he deems to be the obviously correct choice."
"I never went out in my suit thinking I'm going to inspire someone Even though i had become just that for many. It wasn't some idealistic approach to the world."
"I'm simply a hero because i believe its the least i could do for this world"
"But in this process , I've killed. I've killed a lot."
The room was dead silent waiting for his words to finish.
"But I've saved, too. Hundreds of thousands more than I've ever killed. "
"You see… after my father died, I was a recluse not caring much things then i awakened became a hero and did a lot of things at a very young age."
" After my mother passed away, I threw myself into handling Vought and being a hero just for the sake of doing it. I didn't feel anything. It was empty work. And during that time, I did some of my most infamous deeds."
He glanced back at Jay briefly before continuing. "I destroyed a storm , I dismantled the North Korean regime. I ended needless wars in the Middle East. "
"All of that sounds great on paper, but the truth is, I didn't feel good doing it. In fact, the more I did, the more empty my actioms felt"
"My actions grew more deranged, and I began choosing annihilation as the solution for everything."
"At some point it felt meaningless the praises and smiles of the one's i saved , the things that used to make feel Like the best person in the world just sounded like noise in the background"
The crowd was stunned, not just by the admissions, but by the raw honesty in his voice.
Homelander continued not caring ,"That was the case for quite a long time where I just did the bare minimum in my eyes , even though changed lives of many, in my perspective"
" I felt like the most pathetic individual in the world."
Jay's mouth fell a little from the shock of things Homelander was saying and audience mirrored his feelings.
"But that changed when i fought someone and almost died, it was a jolt to reality for my numb self that had deluded himself into this mess of psychotic tendencies, becoming the very thing I swore to destroy when I became aware the world at once."
"I realised I needed to fix myself and I did exactly that just like when I remade myself after death I remade myself again killed parts of my psyche and soul to make myself better to be at least be somewhat like the person in the starry eyes of the kids who admire me"
He paused as if realising he said something wrong.
"No no thats wrong , that admire Homelander. The figure of absolute strength in their perception. Be someone who will bring real change."
"So what happened a week ago was me deciding to be a real hero for once in the only way that is viable in this vicious human society."
"And Just when I had decided that my eyes went to the one thing I've been ignoring deluding myself into thinking that its not my work to do, or doing so will only make the world hate powered individuals, all these frankly being excuses , The government."
" It wasn't Magneto or the brotherhood that convinced me into doing this, as many have been spouting that nonsense, no The final straw in this was that just before i did all this the dealine , the annihilation I saved a lot of mutants from The Facility an organisation that experimented on mutants to make monsters to hunt their very own kind."
"It was sick and twisted in ways that not even my enhanced mind could cope with it , I finally realised that all of that was nothing but excuses."
"False narratives i made to hold myself back, so i decided to fuck it and take things in my hand. Is it morally correct, no Is it legal ? , no. Do I care? actually no. Homelander will no longer hold back."
"The time of change in this world will never come if there is not someone to herald it , do i sound like a tyrant, Yes absolutely"
"But in the end it doesn't really matter because in the grand scheme of things i am only making the world place , even if i have to shoulder haye from every single individual in this world. I will not stop my work anymore."
Homelander's words left the room in stunned silence.
Not just those sitting before him, but the thousands watching on their televisions.
People everywhere felt a heavy stillness from the raw feelings of the Hero.
Among them, Nick Fury sat back in his chair, hands trembling ever so slightly, as if he'd just witnessed something both awe-inspiring and terrifying.
The question gnawed at everyone: Is this man really a hero?
The silence was thick, full of doubt and confusion.
Faces in the crowd reflected a range of emotions—fear, disbelief, unease.
But then, suddenly, a voice broke through the quiet.
"Are you guys kidding me? Why are you all silent? Are you seriously doubting him?"
A man from the back stood up, his face flushed with anger and disbelief. "This is the guy who's saved so many of us in so many places. The guy who's changed the lives of criminals, making them return to society as fair citizens."
" The one person who's actually trying to make the world better instead of hiding behind politics and agendas!"
Heads turned toward him, but he didn't care.
He continued, his voice rising with each word. "Where's the cheering now? Where's the support for the one man who's putting efforts where we have acted as nothign but powerlesw ignorant puppets and all you can do is doubt him when he tells us his heart?"
The man's passion cut through the tension like a sharp blade, leaving the room suspended in silence for a few heartbeats.
Clap.
A single clap rang out, hesitant, almost unsure.
Heads turned toward the source, a man in the back, standing with determination in his eyes.
Another clap followed from across the room.
Clap... clap.
A few more people began to stir, uncertain at first, but the realization started to dawn on them.
"He's right..." a voice murmured, breaking the tension.
"Yeah," someone else agreed, nodding slowly, "he's done more for us than anyone else."
Clap... Clap... Clap.
The clapping picked up pace, more voices joining in, their initial hesitation fading.
Faces once filled with doubt now showed sparks of understanding.
People exchanged glances, and gradually, the applause began to swell.
"Homelander's saved lives!" a voice called out, clearer now.
Clap! Clap!
"He's changed everything!"
Clap! Clap! Clap!
The mood shifted, rippling through the crowd.
More clapping, louder now. "He's our hero!" someone shouted.
The applause grew into a wave, slowly building, until the room was filled with the sound of clapping hands and voices rising in agreement.
Those who had sat in disbelief slowly began to join in, realizing the truth behind the words.
Homelander's expression remained unreadable as he looked at the crowd, but inside, the flicker of something deeper stirred as he saw beyond this room.
The countless people cheering him on.
Unbeknownst to himself thsi was the true birth of a true Hero, even if it began as a lie.
