Connor

Connor like everyone else couldn't believe a fire user had been blocked with a bright element. What kind of crazy bright power did that guy have! Not to mention his basketball skills. He had a cute face as well, probably could have like 15 girlfriends if he wanted.

He overheard the captain and vice captain talking about how himself and Cody might lead them to a national's championship. He huffed slightly. He was way better than that bright user. Sure he was good but they needed to talk more about how epic Connor was. He was from a perfect background and had grown up aiming for perfection in basketball. Not to mention he was an Ice user, far more powerful in all aspects. He would be number one always.

He picked up his water bottle to take a sip, darn it was empty. "Hey captain, I'm going to re-fill my water bottle!" he yelled.

He walked out of the gym to find a water fountain. There should be one around here in this hallway. Or maybe he could just find a facet that would also work. Oh hey a closet, perfect those should have a utility sink. Honestly he should have just gone the other way toward the bathroom instead.

He opened the door and stopped dead in his tracks. Cody was in the closet staring back at him with a look of pure shock. It didn't help that he was only wearing a …. Skirt?!?....

He didn't know whether to laugh, or just close the door and pretend nothing ever happened.

"This is NOT what it looks like." Gasped Cody. Connor bit his bottom lip slightly. Maybe he would tease him for a little, it might be kind of fun.

"Wait till the school hears about this!" Connor laughed. "You'd likely lose your scholarship if not kicked out. That is a bottom to a girl's uniform after all."

Maybe he should take a picture. No that could lead to him actually screwing up Cody's life, but pretending to take one….hmm maybe he would become my servant for a little while. Could be fun, none of his servants were allowed on the school property due to current regulations.

He pulled out his phone "Say cheese." He smirked at the horrified expression on Cody's face. Maybe he was going a bit too far.... Well too late to turn back now. He might as well go the whole way with killing the guy's pride, he might be a serious contender for top basketball spot.

He leaned over and whispered in Cody's ear "You should be my boyfriend, then you wouldn't have to play with skirts in a closet." He expected him to fight back. Do something he wanted to yell at him. The guy just remained in the corner looking at his shoes. No retorts or further answers, how lame, he was actually thinking the guy had looked cool before. Maybe he should use the "photo" as leverage.

Eh whatever. He had thought this guy might actually make a good boyfriend candidate, but if he wouldn't even defend himself there was little point. Sure he liked guys…..not like he'd tell it to the world though. Darn he couldn't stop thinking that even huddled on the floor the guy had looked cute.

He slipped behind a corner to the next hall. He should at least make sure no one else walked into the closet till the dude came out. What he didn't expect was a girl to come running down the stairs straight into the closet room. He hadn't even had a second to warn her. But to his surprise no yell of shock came. He placed his ear against the wall listening, faintly he heard their voices.

"I'm so sorry about that, thank you again for letting me barrow your clothes. Here are your back."

"How did yours even get torn up that badly?"

"You know the blocked off room in the basement below here?"

"Kind of?"

"There was some magic beast in it."

"Wait why was your first instinct not to go straight to the teacher's lounge then!"

"I couldn't go naked!"

"People's lives are at stake! If some student returns sports equipment to a monster den…."

"But I was half naked!"

"Well go now!"

Two figures burst out of the room. The girl headed for the stairs. The teacher's lounge was about 5 floors up. While a small boy with blond hair booked it toward the basement door. Connor reeled slightly from the shock. So Cody didn't have a weird obsession with skirts. That was good to know. But he was also headed to who knows what kind of magical beast!

Connor ran after him. As a bright user he might be strong, but it was still the weakest element. He should have given him time to explain to him earlier. Whatever he'd apologize later.

The stairs to the basement were already quite creepy and dark. He hadn't brought a light. Ahead Cody had his bright magic active and was scanning the area. The entire basement spanned about 200 feet. It was just an unfinished space within the school used for storage.

Connor looked back toward Cody. Ice magic had the longest range while bright magic was the shortest. Cody was clearly at a disadvantage. He ducked around a cart full of volleyballs.

That was when it happened. From under a mat on the far end a giant rat leaped out. Connor had never seen a beast like this one. Its eyes were red and its entire being was lumpy like it had eaten a hundred basketballs. Even a normal rat monster should stay the same shape, the lumps were new.

The rat leapt again its feet leaving holes in the floor. It was ready to flatten Cody. Conner couldn't move, this beast was way faster, stronger, and who knew what else compared to normal ones.

Cody's bright magic changed to a shield the flung the creature backwards. It squeaked in rage as it landed against the baseball bats. The bats fell to the ground and the rat thrashed around regaining its foothold. Cody waited until the rat was within 10 to 15 feet before casting. Extending bright magic's range was one of his top future priorities.

It launched itself again, but Cody again blocked it with ease. Its tail crushed way too much monetary value with a single swing. It leapt once more, as if that was the only attack it knew. This time Connor watched stunned as Cody dodged it and his light changed into a ball in his hand again. Then Cody shot off a slash of it and it hit the rat on the back. A large tear opened up in its skin. It hissed in rage ran away several yards toward Connor then fell over.

The carcass was practically right next to Connor. He stuck his head out to get a better look.

"Those were some crazy light tricks!" He said with a smile stepping out from behind the volleyballs.

Cody looked up, but where Connor was expecting to see slight shock, annoyance, or maybe a smile, heck even a bratty leave me alone face, He saw worry and shock, mixed with fear. He started to open his mouth to be like what scared of the dark? When the not dead rat carcass rose up and leapt for Connor. He instantly froze again. Casting on a moment's notice was not his strong suit.

The claws gleamed in the poor lighting and its red eyes came at him. Move he thought desperately but even dodging now seemed impossible. The teeth, he didn't want to die by those giant daggers. Just when he thought it would all be over the teeth stopped moving toward him.

Shakily he looked down a giant ice spear had skewered the rat. It wasn't his magic. He looked around in shock expecting that maybe one of the teachers had gotten here super fast. Instead he saw Cody drop to the floor and start shaking all over.
