Chapter 2 Part 5

Stifling a chuckle I slightly focused on my chair and twitched my fingers. I began to sit on empty air and eventually my ass found its place in a chair. Casting my gaze towards Felicia, I let go and unleashed a hearty cackle at her wide-eyed expression.

"On second thought. Can you teach me that?" Staring at me with a sparkle in her eyes, I just smiled in response.

"Telekinesis is a simple spell. This body has yet to master it, but I was once able to lift a mountain with my mind only. Although I couldn't cast a spell for quite a while after. I would rather you wait till you reach adept level mana reserves first. If you are still interested in learning though, I was thinking about helping you summon a familiar."

Felicia got closer to me than I would have liked and started jumping up and down like a giddy child.

"Yes. Yes. Yes, please. I wonder what they will be like. Do they have to be humanoid?" Patting her head to calm her, I turned towards Nixie and let her know to get the materials we had prepared.

'How it pays to be prepared. Better to have something than to not have something as they always say.' "Calm down. And to answer your question, no. They don't have to be humanoid. Nixie takes place as an assistant since she and I share a mental link."

Guiding Felicia over to my desk, I motioned for her to sit. After she had, I walked over to Nixie and helped her gather the materials. The ritual Felicia would be using was slightly different from mine.

Since I had known what I wanted to summon, I used a medium to channel the spell. In Felicia's case I decided to leave everything to fate. After taking the time to explain the finer points of the runes and how to channel her magic into the rune, I let Felicia begin the summoning.

"Although very basic, these runes mean locate, summon, and bind. Meaning all this circle does is locate a being who positively reacts to your mana and summons it. Some added precaution is to bind them to the circle."

"Place your hands near the circle, feel the mana flowing through you. Focus on it and try to move it towards your hand and out of them. Once out of your body it becomes much harder to control, but with your talent and my assistance everything will go smoothly."

I watched as Felicia focused and slowly began to move her mana towards her palms and out of her hand, once it was at this stage, I created a cage of sorts with my own mana to help her guide it to the runes.

"That's it, you're almost there. I know you're tired but keep going. It's natural to feel this way after expending most of your mana. This is why it's prudent we are diligent in gathering strength."

Electing to not respond and focus on her ritual, Felicia struggled to keep herself awake as the consequences from both expending large amounts of mana and her recent baptism started to take their toll.

It wasn't long before the circle began to glow and an amorphous blob of black began to appear above the runes. I could feel a host of different minds all focused into this one being and somewhere deep within I could feel a powerful presence.

Not wanting my pupils' first summoning ritual to fail, I elected to fix the problem. I focused on the feeling I got while in the astral plane and I found myself floating above my body.

Gazing once more at the blob, I noticed a line that traveled through the ritual circle, no doubt connecting to the main hive wherever this creature came from. Using the Space Mana within my nearby body, I created a blade of pure mana and threw it towards the mental connection.

Instantly I returned to my body and as the effects of me severing the blob from it's hive took effect, the creature started to scream in agony. Placing my hand on the now panicking Felicia, I commanded her. "Take my mana and use it to form a pact, quickly draw your blood and feed it both."

Swallowing hard, she did as she was told. The mana she started to feed it alleviated the creature's pain, and as she fed it her blood, I quickly created a Master/Servant bond between the two.

It was much harsher than the bond of equals Nixie and I had, but It would ensure that even if that mental link between the blob and its hive was reestablished, Felicia could close her own link to her familiar to protect herself.

Of course I would take extra measures to prevent that from ever happening, but from what I could tell, with a mind as simple as it had, the blob wouldn't mind the bond too much.

Staring down at the now calmed creature, Felicia turned to me with labored breaths. "Master. . . W-what is this?"

Shaking my head I could only offer a faint chuckle. "I wish I knew. Alas this world is still new to me. Fret not, we can figure this out together. Are you able to communicate with it?"

With a faint nod Felicia reached out to the creature. As if on cue, tendrils sprouted from the blob and attached to Felicia's hand. It pulled itself into her hand and jiggled slightly. "I'll name you Jinx."

The moment the ritual was completed by naming the familiar, I felt a small shockwave of mana emanating from between both Felicia and the newly named Jinx. 'I have just inadvertently changed this world's fate on a much larger scale. Let's hope that bald lady doesn't take this as an act of war.`

"Master," Felicia turned to face me. "Although he can't actually talk to me, I can feel his intent. He wants to 'bond.' Do you know what that means?"

I nod my head faintly, "Besides the bond you already share? I have no clue. Why don't you indulge him? He can't hurt you willingly because of the bond. And plus did you forget I'm right here?"

Not even a second later, I watched in fascination as the amorphous creature fused with Felicity, disappearing fully.

Now donning a shocked expression Felicity spoke, "I-I can hear him! And, I feel. . . Stronger too. I feel so alive!" Shaking her from her euphoric state I calmly replied.

"Don't let the power control you. Although I'm not quite sure what is going on with you, I think it's safe to say you and your familiar now share a symbiotic relationship. You feed it mana and possibly share nutrients with it and in return you gain power."

"I would caution you against using outside sources since in most cases it becomes a crutch that leaves you cripled if lost, but as long as you have your bond and mana, you will never lose your familiar. You are now both bonded to the soul, If we were equal in strength even I couldn't forcibly break that bond."

"Master, while you and Felicia were busy I took the liberty to make snacks." Too focused on the advent of new knowledge I hadn't even noticed Nixie leave and return. If it was not for her announcing her presence, I would have been too occupied thinking of all the possibilities with a symbiotic familiar.

Taking a few cookies off the plate and a glass of milk from her other hand, I gave my thanks and began to snack. "Felicia, rest here tonight or head home. This is a good stopping point for now. At a later date we can study the effects of your bond, but tomorrow we must begin your spellcasting."

Finishing her own cookie, Felicia got up from her seat. I think I'll head home. It's not very late anyways. See ya tomorrow Master." Rolling my eyes at her mention of me, I focused my attention to Nixie as Felicia's form left my room.

"Something wrong?" Shifting her posture a few times and occasionally twirling her hair, Nixie built up the courage to speak.

"Master, I was wondering. Can we do that? Something similar to what Felicia and Jinx can do?" Holding an almost expectant look Nixie subtly implied her wishes.

"I have never attempted such a feat. But I do not see it as impossible. Nothing is impossible, remember that. If we can't do something it is only because we have yet to understand what we are trying to do fully."

Giving her a soft smile, I decided to get ready for bed. 'Physical enhancements huh? I should discuss this with Athena tomorrow. I have a few ideas.' Satisfied with how things have been going, I was able to peacefully drift off to sleep.
