After joining Eiji's guild, leveling up seemed to become easier.
"Wow! Level 10 already." Eiji laughed. "What level are you, Haruta?"
"The same level," I replied.
"Oh! Cool! So, what class are you thinking of becoming?" Eiji asked.
"Oh, I guess whatever my character model is."
"Oh, my character model is a dual wielder. What's yours?"
I opened up my character profile to see the job. "It says mage."
"Can you become a healer as a sub-class?"
"Yeah. It says I can."
"Nice! That would be very useful. Shall we go eat some food in the tavern for now? We need to boost up our stamina."
"Sure. Let's go."
We made our way to the tavern after walking someways. However, something "exciting" was happening there.
"What is this crap!" A man yelled, throwing his plate on the floor.
"Eek!" One of the tavern female workers screamed.
"What on earth is going on?" Eiji asked while looking over the crowd's shoulders.
"I want food with flavor! This food tastes like nothing!"
"I'm sorry, but that's all the food we serve." The worker apologized.
"Geez." The man then grabbed out something that looked like a dagger.
"Ah..." I muttered seeing the blade.
"Looks like he is an assassin class," Eiji whispered before walking into the tavern. "Woah, there!" Eiji interrupted.
"Who are you?" The man asked Eiji, slowly putting his dagger away.
"The name is Eiji. I am a guild leader." Eiji looked over at the worker on the ground. "What's going on here?"
"The food here tastes like crap. I was just going to teach this girl here a lesson." The man explained.
"What lesson? What did she do wrong?"
"She could at least try to make the food taste a lot less like crap."
"Then why don't you do it instead?"
"Excuse me?" The man yelled out. I saw some spit being flung onto Eiji's face when the man spoke.
"Then why don't we duel instead?" Eiji suggested as he wiped the spit off his face.
I then ran out of the crowd to Eiji. "Wait! Eiji, that's too dangerous." I grabbed his sleeve.
Eiji then turned to me and shook his head. "It'll be fine. Trust me."
"You want to duel me?" The man laughed. "Sure. Can you defeat an assassin though?"
"Of course. I'm a duel wielder after all." Eiji puffed up.
To me, it seemed as if they were both boasting. Eiji is only a level 10 duel wielder. We don't even know about the other guy's level or his skills. In fact, he may have put all his stats into luck or attack.
"I don't know about this..." I murmured to myself.
"Alright! Let's head to the arena!" The man yelled out.
The whole crowd that was stationed at the tavern headed over to the arena. The arena is the place where you could have duels with other players, or so I've read in the "Issekai New World" guidebook. And also according to the book, those who lose get sent to a specific "point" somewhere in this world where they respawn (teleport to a different place). Now once they have respawned, they lose all the items they have owned previously.
"You got this Yazayo!" A person yelled out from the crowd.
I assumed that meant the guy who Eiji is fighting is Yazayo. I still don't know what his level is.
"Alright then." Eiji took out both swords from his back, where the carriers were. "Let's begin."
Yazayo didn't say anything back to Eiji. Instead, he just smiled and took out his two daggers. There was something very unsettling about his smile. It seemed as if he would do anything to win this duel. Even if it meant killing someone...
I just noticed something off while reading the 2nd chapter of the book. I mentioned that you can tast all types of food, but then Yazoyo complained about his food "tasting like crap." This is because the tavern girl, which her name will be revealed later on, is only a low leveled chef. So, due to this, her food tastes like crap.
