CAEL

Mhm, no, what?

LUZY

She died because of me.

CAEL

Wait hold on, I'm not following you.

LUZY

Sister. Dead. Me. Kill.

CAEL

Okay, don't talk to me like that.

LUZY

I know you might have even more questions now, so let me tell you a story.

CAEL

Glad you know me so well.

LUZY

On that fateful day, I was at my home, while it was raining. The night had already kicked in and I remember the moon shining through the window. But I was too busy watching tv.

CAEL

So, what happened?

LUZY

It was a mystery thriller about a corrupt policeman seeing his opportunity to rise in ranks after an unsolvable murder slides into his files. Thorn between his aspirations and the ones of his colleagues, he gets into a web of deceit which slowly spins out of control. He starts suffering from severe hallucinations and in the end kills himself.

CAEL

Not in the film, I mean in your flashback, you idiot.

LUZY

Oh, whoops.

CAEL

Yeah 'whoops'.

LUZY

While watching, I slowly dozed off, but was awakened by my cellphone.

CAEL

And let me guess, it was the sister right?

LUZY

Yes. She wrote to me saying that we should meet up. It was late in the night, and I was a bit suspicious, but at that time, I was just so sleepy. And I had just watched the entire movie, so without answering, I fell asleep.

CAEL

Then was that the day Eve's sister had-

LUZY

The next time I woke up was a moment I would never forget. I hear the sirens of a car and two men walk up to me telling me that her sister was found dead.

CAEL

Ugh. Really, that, I'm sorry.

LUZY

I only woke up, and I was still too shocked by the news, so I just couldn't react. Meanwhile they told me, that she had actually been murdered. Not an accident, not a suicide. A murder. And that it was probably a crime of passion.

CAEL

It was probably the police, but why would they come to you?

LUZY

They also said, that I was the last person contacted before her death. Not her parents or her, at that time, brother. It was me. So they asked me questions. If I had a grudge against her, or any disputes before.

CAEL

You are not meaning to say that-

LUZY

Yes, apparently I was a suspect. No idea how they reached that conclusion. They also said they found my belongings with her, only, there was no motive, yet.

CAEL

I understand. So in the end, there is no clear answer to what happened to her.

Luzy grinds her teeth, as she stares at the ground.

LUZY

This is just the intro of the story. There's still more.

CAEL

Do you mean to tell me you know who killed her?

LUZY

No, until this day, I haven't found out. But Eve, or at that time, Jakob, thought he did. He thought I did it.

CAEL

Wait, why would she, no he, think that?

LUZY

Because his sister loved me.

CAEL

What?

LUZY

I have no idea how he found out. Maybe his sister told him. Or maybe he had seen us, but the fact is that he did.

CAEL

But why would he think that you killed her.

LUZY

He never liked me. He thought I wasn't really a good friend for his sister. That I was trying to control her. But I really never did.

Luzy looks at Cael, waiting for his response, but there was none.

LUZY (CONT'D)

The first time I saw Eve, I was entranced by her beauty. She looked like a girl straight out of a fairy tale. Her smile whenever she talked to me, made me the happiest person. She was the only one, who truly listened to what I said. Unlike everyone else.

CAEL

When she told you that she loved you, you must have been delighted then.

LUZY

I was at first. But after a thought, I realized that I didn't deserve her. She was too pure for someone like me. Too dazzling.

CAEL

So what did you do then?

LUZY

I told her that I was happy for her feelings, but that I couldn't give her my love back.

CAEL

Oh.

LUZY

But maybe this is where my mistake lies. If I hadn't rejected her, she might have still be alive today, still be with me laughing and talking with me, (breathe in) but she's gone now.

After a short pause Luzy starts talking again.

LUZY (CONT'D)

Well, Jakob thought I was the one who killed her. It was probably just in the heat of the moment, but he really genuinely believed that. The police said they where missing a motive, but he was sure that that was the one. And so it became from him being annoyed by me to him actively hating me.

CAEL

Then what changed? Obviously you guys don't hate each other anymore?

LUZY

He changed. Began wearing makeup, only a little around his eyes. Then he started putting lipstick and soon he also wore a wig plus female clothing, but no one said anything, it would be inappropriate to judge him after he lost his sister after all. And so he became the Eve that you know now.

CAEL

Ahh, Okay, got it. But this still doesn't explain how her attitude changed.

LUZY

In the beginning, she was still sometimes harassing me, nothing much. Only the occasional glare and cold attitude. However, that changed all one day.

Luzy clenches her fist tightly, leaving marks in her beautiful skin.

LUZY (CONT'D)

After his sister died, not only was I devastated, we had other friends after all. They also left with her, though. There was one person though, who always stayed by my side even after all this.

CAEL

I think I vaguely remember Eve talking about it.

LUZY

How much do you know about him?

CAEL

Not much, only that you were always together, even after everything that happened.

LUZY

I guess she doesn't remember.

CAEL

Remember what?

LUZY

Remember what this guy has done to me.

CAEL

Oh, damn.

LUZY

Look, the first turning point in my life was when I met Eve's sister. That radiant beauty of hers had entirely enchanted me. The second was when she died. I lost my will to live at that moment, and was only a shell of a human being. And the third was when that guy had asked me to meet at a road like this.

CAEL

Really, was it that bad?

LUZY

Yes, it was even worse. He told me that he was in love with me, that he had always liked me, and now that the sister isn't here anymore, he finally had a chance.

CAEL

What, that's disgusting.

LUZY

It is, so I snapped. For the first time after her death, I could feel an emotion again. It was anger, no it was more than that, it was wrath.

CAEL

Well, I guess your reaction wasn't that good?

LUZY

Oh, how could you tell? You're right, I kicked him in the stomach.

CAEL

As expected.

LUZY

He didn't receive that too kindly though. He started blabbing about something in the lines of destiny and how we were meant for each other. He would do anything for me, if it meant being together.

CAEL

That dude's crazy.

LUZY

That's also what I thought. Gave me the creeps. He suddenly jumped at me, and I had no time to react at all, and before I could react. He was on top of me. His big hands easily grasped my thin wrists and he hit me in the face.

CAEL

Wait, is this going where I think this is going?

LUZY

I tried to fight back, but his broad back overshadowed me. He told me if I don't stop struggling, worse things would happen. He pulled my pants down and-

CAEL

Okay, stop. You don't have to say anymore, that's too much.

LUZY

You are a good person, aren't you? (beat) But that won't do. Weren't you the one who always wanted to know the whole story? Where has your dedication gone?

Cael looks at Luzy and then looks at the floor. He could see his reflection in the puddle. And after think for a while, he hits the ground.

CAEL

Okay, tell me. I'm ready.

LUZY

that's how it should be. When he actually did it, I stopped struggling. My hands dropped and I became a doll. No, I was already a doll, the moment Eve had left me. I thought this must have all been my fault, and that it was karma. Everything was my fault. I never cried through the process.

CAEL

Ugh, I'm am so sorry.

LUZY

It's really not something you hear everyday right? Take your time and calm down a bit, we have time after all.

CAEL

No, continue please. I decided to face the truth the way it is.

LUZY

'kay then. After he was done I just lied on the floor. The cold marble was piercing my soft skin, but at that moment, it felt pleasant. He started mumbling about it being worth it and how he wouldn't regret the decisions he made.

CAEL

That degenerate really makes my blood boil.

LUZY

At that time, Eve, the one we now know, came and saw the scene.

CAEL

Oh, what did she do?

LUZY

She started hitting him, I can't remember more, the memory get's fuzzy at that point. I must have passed out or something like that. Next thing I remember is Eves face in front of me. With her beautiful white hair, red lips and dark eyes. Meanwhile sirens are ringing in the background, and I feel something wet hit my face. It was actually her tears. She was crying for someone like me. At that moment I knew, Eve hasn't left me, she is still by my side.

CAEL

Eve as in Jakob, you mean.

LUZY

It doesn't matter what I mean. She was there with me, and with my last strength I called out to her - 'welcome back, Eve'.

CAEL

That is one hell of a story you got there. I would never tell that something at this magnitude had ever happened to you.

LUZY

You gotta watch out, humans always come with a mask ya'know? Don't let your first impression be your last.

CAEL

(Laughter)

Really, you two are quite the unique couple.

LUZY

Hey, why are you laughing.

CAEL

No, it's just that Eve said the exact same thing to me.

LUZY

(smile)

she did, huh.

CAEL

It must have been quite the trauma for you. I'm really sorry you had to live through something like that.

LUZY

Not everything was bad, I was able to reunite with Eve after all. Did you know, afterwards she actually defended me, when I was still suspected? She told everyone that it wasn't me, it couldn't be me.

CAEL

And that's how you two ended together, am I right.

LUZY

Nope, not quite.

CAEL

No?

LUZY

There was a fourth turning point in my life. It was also my last turning point.

CAEL

Oh, this better be a happy part.

LUZY

I'm sorry, I have to disappoint you then. After that incident, where she saved me, we still never really talked. I was really sad about that, but what could I do. Maybe it was also in consideration for me. So took her up on that offer and just tried to live my life, ignoring everything that happened. But fate is a cruel mistress.

CAEL

Oh come on. My heart won't make it, if it's another tragedy.

LUZY

I found out I was pregnant.

CAEL

Shit, fucking hell.

LUZY

Was a shock for me, too. Guess that guy wasn't done ruining my life, yet. I didn't know what to do with that child. I was torn between loving and hating it, it wasn't the fault of that child after all. But everything I thought about the child, that disgusting face of his came up. And in the end, I aborted it. (beat) But something went wrong, while i undertook the procedure, and now (beat) and now I can't have children anymore.

CAEL

I am at a loss for words.

LUZY

You don't have to say anything.

Cael stays silent.

LUZY (CONT'D)

So, I thought what do I do with my life now, what reason is there for living. And I remembered there's one. There's still Eve, and this time I wouldn't make the same mistake and I asked her out.

CAEL

And?

LUZY

And then we obviously came together. We wouldn't be here if that wasn't the case. Which also marks the end of my origin story.

CAEL

That is quite the nuke you dropped there. I might need some time to clear my mind.

LUZY

But that's enough about me, what about you? What's you origin?

CAEL

It's not as interesting as yours.

LUZY

come on, you holding back after I outed myself here?

CAEL

It's not like that.

LUZY

Then what's stopping you?

CAEL
