A jaw dropped, scratch that, two did.
Megan and Brandon stared at their boss, the CEO of the company. They worked to occupy the chair that previously did not even belong to their table.
"I-uh," Megan opened and closed her mouth multiple times before she finally snapped out of it, "Mr Archer, you could've told me to bring you a sandwich. I can bring you a sandwich in case you want to go back. Do I place your order-"
Wow, Bran looked away from Killian, she really blabbers a lot when she is panicking.
"Don't worry about any of it, Megan. The zeros in my account do not decide my capability to do things." Killian moved his eyes away from brand, after brand had already done so towards Megan. "I can order for myself."
"Yes, Of course. Thank you."
Thank you? Did she really say thank you to him? Bran wanted to chuckle but his instincts warned him against that. Apart from that, he did not want any of their attention towards him.
"It is quite unexpected to see you here." Megan added after a few moments of silence. "In fact, this is my first time out of the office to have lunch. Otherwise, I.."
At that moment, it hit Brandon.
Megan was nervous or rather scared actually because she assumed that Killian had caught her out of the office when she was supposed to be working.
"Megan," Bran spoke up, cutting in, "what we, the employees, do in our entitled one hour of lunch time is completely up to us. We can go out or eat in the company, whatever we wish."
If he had the guts needed, he would have glanced at his boss. But no, he did not do that, even when Megan looked in between them uncontrollably.
"Well, I canno—"
"He is right," Killian switched his eyes to her, "and if someone tells you otherwise, you know the protocol to be followed."
"Yes, sir." Megan nodded her head quickly. "May I Please get you something?"
Killian almost gave her exasperated expression. "Megan, you don't—"he paused, pulling out his wallet and a card from it that he kept on the table in between him and Megan. "Soda, any kind."
Megan could not have run up from her seat any quicker than she did. If it was a cartoon show, they would definitely be a poof of air behind her.
Now that one person who caused a good amount of distraction, left the table, Brandon received Killian's attention.
"What?" Bran let out the word in a low volume, he was being stared at by his boss, and his boss did not bother enough to let out something from his mouth. "Do you want to say something?"
"Would you agree if I did?"
"Agree to wh—" he stopped himself from saying anything anymore. Persistent wanker. He's not going to stop.
For a moment, Bran and felt exactly what a woman would feel if she was being pursued by a man whom she wanted nothing to do with. While he wanted to sock the guy in the eye but he couldn't possibly do it, given the security Killian brought with him, and his own build, Brandon would just not win.
"No, I'm not going to agree to anything. Is that why you are here?"
Killian moved his head to the side, shaking it. "I'm here for a sandwich."
"And you could not take it upon yourself to sit anywhere else? Had to come to the table your employees were sitting on and take a chair?"
"Absolutely," Killian nodded, "yes."
Brandon felt his cheek twitch. Don't say anything, don't say anything, don't say anything, dont—
"Hey," Megan came back with a tray in her hand that contained their two sandwiches, and three glasses of soda. "They were ready with the order, so I just grabbed it for us."
With her attention on Killian, Brandon took the sandwich that was his, and grabbed it and shoved the first bite into his mouth. Now, at least it would be shut for a while, and he would not be obligated to answer Killian until it was finished.
