Casey was trying his best to follow his wife's example and make the best of things himself. It was difficult with how much he had to worry about. 

Despite his high stress levels, he didn't let Kane take over most of the time. He needed to learn to push through it but still found himself failing when he was triggered by something, especially blood. 

It always came back to blood. Maybe it would be better for Kane to take over when things happened because he managed to keep a cool head. He immediately dismissed that because he beat himself up when Kane came out. 

Sometimes it felt like he was the more competent version of Casey now that he had curbed his violent tendencies. He didn't have issues talking or handling stress or emergencies. 

He hadn't come out since before Vera began to show though. He didn't even know she was pregnant.
