Dreaming Of A Real Future

Casey didn't like that Kane seemed interested in Vera. He had put him off this long but had known deep down that he wouldn't be able to do it indefinitely. 

Kane was sprawled across the couch on his phone when Casey got home and confronted him about it. "You need to leave Vera alone, Kane. She's different. I don't want you giving her a hard time."

"You thought Ashley was different too."

"Vera is nothing like Ashley! She cares about me more than anyone else ever has. Don't talk to her. I mean it."

Kane laughed, not taking this seriously at all. "Look at you standing up for yourself for once! Don't tell me you were stupid enough to fall in love."

Casey stiffened. "I don't love Vera."

"Really? Because it sure sounds like you do. You know why that isn't a good idea, Casey."
