The Proposal

The night wind blew harsh and cold, Chilling the atmosphere. Natural lights illuminating from the Moon, brightening the dark and clouded sky, shading the darkness with it's brightest stars.

Liam silently stood, looking outside at this peaceful and quiet scenery. His mind was far on wondering. He patiently gazed on from the balcony, whatever was on his mind was clearly translucent on his face because his expression said it all. He was thinking, about what? that was the only thing that wasn't written on his expression.

"I was informed you ask for me, father?" He said after a long while of just staring down the balcony with clouded gaze.

"Yes son." Christian Liu sighed out before he gave a reply to Liam.

Liam faced the direction of his father the moment he answered him. He was wordlessly telling him to go on.

And of course christian Liu, got the cue. "I know you are wondering why I didn't call you to the study but the balcony instead." Christian said as he move further.

Liam gave no response but only a slight movement from his left brow.

"What I want us to discuss, is not a closed door issue. This is a matter that needs serious thinking and wise decision making." Christian said to him.

"I remember I told you this morning before I left to the office that I will see you when I'm back." Christian continued after a little pause.

Liam nodded at his father words that sounded more like a question.

"Right!" He sighed.

"The reasons for that earlier, I think it's doubled." Christian gave a look to see if the is any shift of expression on Liam after he had just said this piece.

"You think?" Liam muttered with a smirk, visible enough for Christian to see. Those are the only words he had said since he arrived at the balcony.

"Son! you know it has been your mothers dream to watch one of you boys take over the Liu corporation. But you brother.....you see....." Christian decided to cut the chase and just get to the main point.

"I understand." Liam instantly cut him off from completing his statement.

"My brother has done enough, it's okay about him!" Liam continued with concrete authority in his tone of speech when he replied to Christian's jumbled words.

Christian had a small but hidden smile on his face when Liam said what he said earlier. Clearing his throat, he started again.

"Fine then, the corporation needs a new heir son, and you are more than eligible for that position. They need some new ideas son. My time is long gone and expired, I need a successor." He gave a pause.

"I am not forcing you, neither will I force you in the future son, it is just the right thing, but anytime you are ready, I will welcome you son." Christian said with much understanding.

"And the doubled reason?" Ignoring whatever Christian laid out earlier.

"Its...it's.... it's a proposal by the Mo corporation, this..this you will take on by the time you get the sit as the CEO of the Liu corporation." Christian could not bring it on him to directly lay down the decision he has taking for his youngest and most defiant son.

Upon hearing this, Liam turned to Christian, his squinted eyes had nothing but utter suspicion in them. "What proposal?" He asked instantly.

Christian was striked silent when Liam asked him the already awaited question. For minutes he stood without giving out a word.

Liam patiently waited for whenever his Dad is ready to speak but he was sure it isn't going to be something he will like. He had a feeling that this is going to be an end to an almost started beginning.

Suddenly, his mind drifted to certain person, almost forgetting the seriousness of this light conversation they are having. Unknowingly, a small little smile which could not even be seen got plastered on his dreamy lips.

"An arranged marriage proposal."

The huge bomb was a shock to Liam, instantly he threw his gaze to his father but he didn't let the shock and surprise surface in his face. He still had that serious stance. His slight smile already disappeared only a bone chill look was there.

Christian did know what to say to convince his son, sure he let the first one go but.... this time he is really sorry for letting this fall on his youngest son, honestly speaking he has no choice.

"A what?" Liam asked again. His aura so frightening chill that if Christian Liu wasn't his father, he would have long scurried away out of fear.

"Son look, I discussed this with your mother earlier and..and she really wants this for you. It's both beneficial to you and our company. Coupled with the fact that Stephanie really likes you alot since childhood." He lowered his voice in the last statement.

Liam was as quiet as ever, but his father knew that this quietness did not mean that he was thinking about it, it didn't mean that it was a corresponsive response. Instead he was like a quiet volcano waiting to erupt. And he knew best that this is the time to let him be.

"Think about it son." Christian said with one pat on Liam's shoulder before he left, he knew he couldn't force him to do anything—As of yet.

When Christian left, Liam stood with his palms folded on both sides, he was extremely angry, Anger was an understatement, Exasperated!

He took a deep breath in and out with closed eyes to calm his raging nerves. A smiling face popped up in his head and he could hear his own heart beating in his ears without hesitation he flung his eyes open, wide.
