Charlotte Cooper surely wasn't naive enough to think that Lily McKenzie was trying to develop feelings for her. Anxiety was growing stronger inside Charlotte, she had a feeling that something was about to happen.
In another bedroom, Henry Russell and Lily McKenzie had reached an impasse. Henry, having eaten the food Lily served him, was clearly disoriented under the present circumstances.
Yet, he was unwilling to touch her and constantly pushed her away. If it weren't for Lily's persistent struggle, she might have been thrown out directly.
"Henry, let me help you if you're uncomfortable," Lily pleaded.
"Get away from me, you only make me sick," answered Henry. His mind was clear about their situation. Why did this woman persistently feed him? Now it all made sense; she was planning this all along.
Observing Henry's constant rejection, Lily knew he was reaching his limit. She only needed to persist a while longer to score a victory.
