Chapter sixteen

After every thirty to forty minutes, one of them would come to check on us. It was easy to learn their moves. We didn't need to wait any longer.

Since Senah was sitting close to the wall, she used her leg to kick it a bit to see if it would make a noise. It made just a little sound. Senah turned to me to untie her rope.

I used my mouth to untie since our hands were tied to our backs. Brandon and Xavier did the same and then about a minute later, we were all free from our bondages. Brandon stood at the door to ensure that no one was coming.

Then, I took a nail close by and started marking the area in the wood that had the crack. Fortunately, the wood was soft which meant the structure was old.

It made escaping much easier. Xavier switched places with me and started poking holes in the crack to make it weaker. When he was done, Senah used her leg to kick the crack open.

The wood fell and light streamed into the room. Brandon came to her and they both hugged. They were rejoicing and jumping around.

Xavier, Xavier, Xavier. He still had his look on. He was telling Senah and Brandon to be quiet else we would get caught.

I had become really bored with his face. I dreaded looking at his face but at the same time, I felt drawn to it.

Sometimes I wished that when I looked at his face, it would have a different expression.

Right then, I heard shuffling and told the rest to keep quiet. I suspected the bandits knew something was off. Then I heard voices.

They were coming our way. Just when Senah attempted to escape, some outside blocked her way.

"Well, well, well, look what we have here."
