Chapter 1

You inhaled the salty sea air as the wind sent your hair flying back. The weather was good and life was as perfect as usual. You were on your way to the family island where your father was waiting. "Careful, Y/N," joked Sherman, your best friend, "don't want you falling off,"

You stuck your tongue out at him and turned to Mia, your little stepsister. "C'mon, Mee," you said, carrying her in your arms. "Your mother's making her famous lasagna,"

"Wait, she is?" Sherman asked, before running to the front of the yacht where the dining room/bar/kitchen was set up. You followed him, chuckling all the way. By the time you got there, Emma, your stepmom, was already giving him a plate of lasagna, an amused smile on her face. "Hey, Emma," you greeted, putting Mia on a chair.

"I 'ope you still have time for lasagna," she said, a bit of her French accent coming through. You faked a look of shock. "Thy accusations have wounded me," you said dramatically. "There is always time for lasagna,"

"Well, you better get some or Sherman might just eat them all,"

You laughed and grabbed two plates, one for Mia and one for you. "Lasa-na!" she giggled, making grabby hands at the plate. You all laughed at the pure cuteness you were witnessing. You took a spoon and handed it to her. You were rather proud of the fact that your two-year-old sister could eat by herself without much of a mess.

"So, how was New York?" You asked Sherman, referring to the summer camp he went to every year since you were twelve. He shrugged and wiped his mouth with a napkin. "Not much," he said, but there was a bright twinkle in his eyes. "Of course, our Camp Director almost threw a new camper into the lake for being too annoying,"

"You mean that Mr. D guy?"

"Yup,"

"Well," Emma said, her eyebrows furrowed in disapproval, "a man like that shouldn't 'ave any authority over kids and teenagers,"

Lightning showed up in the sky while thunder followed afterward, which was weird since today's forecast promised clear skies. Sherman didn't seem confused and just rolled his eyes at the sky. You had learned to ignore his weird antics and so has the rest of your family... well, it was really just Emma and you since your dad didn't spend enough time with Sherman to witness all the weird things he would do or say.

"When are we going to get there?" You asked. Before Emma could answer, Mia gasped and pointed at the sea. "Tentace! Tentace!" she shouted, half shocked, half gleeful. You frowned in confusion before turning to where she was pointing at. Your eyes widened as you saw a giant tentacle floating above the surface. Well, it wasn't floating exactly. The tentacle was seen, but you were quite sure that it was connected to something below.

"Holy mother of Zeus," Sherman whispered, reaching for something in his boot. Emma was just looking at you in confusion. "Why are you so surprised?" she asked, "Helicopters always go and stop by the beach,"

"Helicopters?" You asked yourself, looking at the tentacle again. It was still that; a tentacle. Then, the water started to swirl and waves hit the side of the yacht. "Whirlpool!" shouted a crew member as the two guards came to you and tried to do what they could to keep you safe.

"But that shouldn't be possible!" You protested. "Whirpools only appear in the narrow ocean straits; we're in open water!"

"We have no time for that, miss," said Dana, who was Mia's bodyguard/nanny. The other one was Emma's since your bodyguard was pregnant and you didn't want her to exert herself too much. Besides, your dad payed for your archery lessons and Dana gave you some lessons on using a gun secretly. You were a pretty good marksman.

Then a creature broke through the surface, revealing it's squidlike face and numerous tentacles that started to wrap around the yacht. Emma screamed and grabbed your arm, yanking you away. Dana followed you, carrying Mia who was now crying in fright.

"They're firing on us!" Emma screamed, "Why are they firing on us?!"

She was clearly panicking but you ignored her for a while, running to the supply closet and grabbing two guns and your bow and arrow. "Stay here," you said, before running back to the deck.

"Come back! Y/N come back now!"

When you got to the deck, Jack, the other bodyguard, was nowhere to be seen and Sherman was holding a dagger, slashing the tentacles, but it just made the creature angrier. "What the hell is this?!" You shouted to him, fumbling with your bow. You managed to knock an arrow and you shot it at the creature's eye, making it roar in pain.

Sherman looked at you in shock, allowing the creature to swat him away, making him tumble down the stairs. "Sherman!" You screamed, running towards him, but a tentacle blocked your way. You forced yourself to look directly at the creature. You know you've seen it somewhere; you just weren't sure whe-

"Kraken!" You shouted in realization. The Kraken roared as if liking that you knew what it was. You nagged your brain for the paragraph you had read when you were 14-years-old. Krakens are physically strong and agile and are known for their squid-like appearance. They do not have magical powers, despite being a mythical creature. However, it is not immortal and is capable of dying.

'Lot of help that is,' you thought, ducking a tentacle the was sent your way. Then it roared again and an idea hit you. You remembered that movie you watched when you were 12. You knew what you should target now; the mouth. But first, you had to get captured.

"Over here!" You shouted from your hiding place. You shot the Kraken, but this time with the gun. It just ricocheted and made him angry, which was exactly what you were going for. It roared at you -you were just realizing it was more like a wail- and you let one of its tentacles wrapped around you. One thing you didn't consider-how tight it would hold you.

You were sure it had cracked at least two ribs. Something urged you to look up and you did. You saw a woman clad in armor, a glowing spear in her right hand and the other holding the reins of her horse. Then the tentacle got tighter and the woman disappeared.

Another thing you didn't consider, what the Kraken was capable of doing. Of course, it was more of the books' fault than yours. Nothing in there said anything about poison so of course, there was poison. You felt it being injected into your body and coursing through your veins. The effect was instantaneous; black spots danced in your vision and you felt light-headed.

'Close your eyes,' said a voice, 'just give up,'

Giving up seemed so peaceful, but another voice countered. 'No, my child,' said the voice-it sounded like a woman's. 'Not yet. You still have people to save,'

You forced yourself to look behind you and saw Sherman and Emma on the deck, the former looking at you in fear and the latter shouting in French. You were jolted back to your sense. You still had people to save. You wouldn't let them die. Anger coursed through your veins, countering the poison. 'Yes, darling,' said the woman.

The waters guided started to churn more, hitting the Kraken over and over until it was forced to relinquish its hold of the yacht. Then, the yacht was guided away, carrying your family. The Kraken wailed in anger, but you ignored it. There was sense of calm that washed up on you. It was like the water was... protecting you. You didn't control it, but it was like someone else was doing it for you.

You summoned all the strength you had left, only enough to knock an arrow. You let go of th bowstring weakly, but it was enough to go into the Kraken's mouth and pierce it through the inside. It wailed in pain and let go of you. The effects of the poison started to go back and you almost let go of your bow, but it was like something was forcing you not to.

You were already dead when you hit the water.
