"The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man's determination." ~Tommy Lasorda
"You're looking better, old man," Nate said when he saw his father sitting up in bed.
"Who you calling old?"
"If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck," he said as he took a seat next to the bed. "But really, how are you?"
"Hanging in there." After looking around the room, he asked, "Where's that friend of yours?"
"Dani went to find something to drink. She'll be up soon."
"It's good to see you with someone," he said.
"It's not like that."
His dad had a way of seeing through him, of always knowing what he was trying to hide. "People don't just drop everything, child included, and fly out with someone if it doesn't mean anything."
Nate shrugged.
"She seems really great, from the whole two seconds I met her."
Nate was getting uncomfortable with where things were going. "Where's Mom?"
"Sent her to the cafeteria. Love that woman to death, but she's smothering me."
