The Sacrifice

Solomon stood silent, unmoved in the flickering torchlight.

Legion's shadows danced around the room.

David's breathing seems to slow, time slowed, his thoughts raced.

'I can't kill Solomon….but if I don't then Amanda dies' David's thoughts whirled in his brain.

"I'm sorry Solomon" Solomon stiffened at David's words, Legion's shadows leaned in hungrily. "I have to save Amanda....and I can't kill an innocent to do it"

David raised the knife to his throat. He closed his eyes and drew it back, preparing to stab deep. The knife flashed forward, and stopped. Solomon's hand grasping David's wrist.

Legion's shadows swirled around the room. Solomon smiled, taking the knife from David's hand. David blinked.

"I don't understand…"

"You passed David. If you had chosen to sacrifice me I would have killed you, before you blinked even. But you didn't, you choose to sacrifice yourself and so, I will honor a deal made years, years, and years ago."

Solomon sat down all of his gear, his bow, his cloak, and stripped down to his tunic.

David watched as Solomon walked down the steps, Legion's shadows following him, testing him, whipping him with darkness. He did nothing. At the bottom of the steps he turned to David.

"I do this every time someone chooses to sacrifice themselves for their loved one. Don't waste your time together David."

With those words Amanda came down, slumping uncocience on the floor, and then vanished. Solomon slowly rose into the air, and began screaming as the shadows covered him.

Then David vanished.
