"What?! Where are you going? You were hit by lightning just last night. You should rest more!!" Mei Yue'er did not even want him to walk, now he wished to go out of the city by himself. This was simply ridiculous from her perspective.
"I said I am fine. Why don't you believe me? I'm just going out of the city to look for an opportunity to break through. Don't you want that as well?" Feng Luotian said.
"But …" Mei Yue'er also wished for him to make a breakthrough, but she was worried about his health and safety even more.
Before the conversation turned into a fight, Peacock Lord concluded: "Yue'er, since Tian'er himself said he's fine, then it's fine. If you're still worried, you can accompany him on his trip."
Peacock Lord already received the report from the doctor saying that Feng Luotian was fine. He came here to confirm if that lightning was a natural phenomenon or was caused by someone instead. And since the boy seemed to be clueless about what happened last night, there was no reason to bother him any longer.
Furthermore, Peacock Lord could more or less tell that this purple-eyed young man had changed by considerable amount and seemed to have something in mind about breaking through. Thus, he should support the boy's decision and let him do as he wished.
Although allowing his own daughter to accompany him out of the city would seem inappropriate right after an assassination attempt yesterday, this was a reverse-psychological tactic he chose to employ.
Those assassins would not dare to make a move because this was obviously a trap no matter how they saw it.
At the same time, Peacock Lord had planned to dispatch First Elder to protect them while investigating the matter as well. No danger would fall upon both of them even if they had gone out of the city.
"That would be no need, Uncle Mei. Yesterday, Yue'er was over-exhausted her energy and had not yet recovered. She should be the one who takes her time and rest." Feng Luotian rejected the idea because he needed some time to explore his new ability, and it was better to do this alone since it would be much easier to explain his sudden rise of cultivation by spouting bullshits that had no witnesses.
Not waiting for anyone's response, he added: "You too, Wuji. Although you are faring much better than Yue'er, you need to prepare for the entrance exam next month. So, I'd like to encourage both of you to use your time wisely. I'll be fine and work hard to achieve my Bloodline Awakening in this period of time. I promise."
His tone turned more serious in each sentence.
Seeing Feng Luotian's determination, everyone in the room could only let him do as he wanted.
"Since that's the case, then we will take our leave." Peacock Lord stated his intention.
Feng Luotian bid his farewell to Peacock Lord and First Elder before they both left the room.
"Will you be fine by yourself, Brother Feng?"
"You don't have to worry. I won't go far, and I will be traveling with merchants along with their bodyguards to see the world outside a bit. Who knows? With some luck, I might find some method to cure my condition." Feng Luotian affirmed with a smile.
"Alright, then. But …" Sun Wuji signaled using his glance towards a girl who was now puffing her cheek like a steamed bun with a little red glint from anger.
"Hmph!! I won't talk to you anymore!!" Mei Yue'er scoffed and subsequently ran out of the room.
Feng Luotian could do nothing but sigh. This Yue'er was much younger and more emotional than the one he used to court. Nonetheless, he chuckled that he could see such a cute and childish side of her.
"It will be okay after you come back. Just go find the chance you said. We will wait for your good news. And by the way, your eyes look wicked now than before." Sun Wuji comforted his brother, then joked.
"Hehe. Thank you" Feng Luotian laughed in response.
After walking out of Alchemy Center, they both bade goodbye, then went on separate ways.
Once he parted ways with Sun Wuji, Feng Luotian returned to his home to get a few things.
After that, he did go to the merchant area close to the city's eastern gate, but it was not for traveling together with them. Instead, he went there to buy something.
He went straight to one of the gem shops.
This gem shop was not selling ordinary gems or accessories for women. Its main merchandises were monster cores. There were a few people within the shop selecting the monster cores they wanted to buy.
He looked around the place until someone came and received him.
"How may I help you, Young Master Feng?"
As he was God's son, the attendant there recognized him straight away, greeting with a courteous bow.
"I'd like to make some exchange."
"Of course. What level of monster cores do you wish to exchange with us, Young Master?"
"Bring me all monster cores of Lightning-type and Speed-type you have in your shop."
"Monster cores of Lightning-type and Speed-type?" The attendant frowned in confusion.
Feng Luotian instantly paused, also with a frown, as he thought: "Ah, I forgot. I didn't expect this place's knowledge to be this lacking. No wonder Teacher Shu never once mentioned this knowledge in the class."
Teacher Shu did not teach his students about monster cores' types, not because it was not important, but because he did not know about it. And probably even Peacock Lord did not know about this either. Otherwise, he would share this information with the rest of the city to increase its growth as a whole.
There were many types of monster cores depending on their unique hidden benefits after refining them, but those benefits were negligible individually. However, if one refined a few dozens of the same type of monster cores, then the effect would start to shine.
The most distinctive hidden benefit was that the monster cores could increase the skill proficiency with the corresponding trait.
[Skill Proficiency] was simply the amount of training one needed to do to upgrade the skill's level.
Feng Luotian's Pinnacle Flash Lightning was a skill of both Lightning and Speed. If he could refine Lightning-type or Speed-type monster cores, he would be able to upgrade his Legendary skill a lot faster.
Those who did not know about the monster core's hidden benefit would only try to absorb the core's energy to increase one's cultivation. Never would they expect that they could raise their skill proficiency at the same time if they were to choose the monster core correctly.
Feng Luotian shook his head and said to the attendant: "Never mind that. Bring all monster cores of Seven Fangs to Nine Fangs. I will pick what I want myself."
"Seven Fangs to Nine Fangs, Young Master Feng?" The attendant was surprised by his demand.
"!!" Feng Luotian started to get irritated with this attendant: "You don't even have those?!"
"We do have some of those, but not many. And if you would like to exchange for the monster cores higher than Seven Fangs, you need to conduct such a trade with the shop owner directly. But before that, we need a warranty." The attendant answered with an implicative smile.
A warranty was needed because the exchange Feng Luotian wished to conduct required a lot of money. The shop could not just flaunt out their precious items for customers to look at while they had no assets to purchase them.
"I see. Is this enough to be a warranty?" Feng Luotian took out a monster core from his bag.
Upon witnessing the item, the attendant fell butt-first on the ground. After regaining his nerve, he quickly scrammed to get this shop owner he claimed earlier. As for the other people within the shop, their eyes were set aflame with greed.
The monster core he took out could really warrant such a reaction from the attendant and other customers within the shop as it was a One Talon monster core that he got from Wight Wolf. Although he did not have many gold coins on hands, the core in his possession could even purchase the entire shop.
Not a minute later, an old man rushed to greet Feng Luotian and invited him to his private quarter to secretly conduct the trade.
The shop owner cupped his hands while bowing: "I deeply apologize for not receiving you myself, Young Master Feng. Please sit. My attendant might as well be blind that he could not even s—"
"Just take all the monster cores you are proud of out for me to choose." Feng Luotian cut right to the chase, disregarding any unnecessary conversations as he knew what the shop owner was about to fawn over the newly acquired fat sheep.
Getting a flat demand from Feng Luotian, the shop owner could only swallow whatever he had in his throat and comply: "Yes, yes. Right away, Young Master."
The shop owner grabbed the key he hid on top of a high shelf and used it to unlock a huge treasure chest behind him. He took a small yet much more exquisite box out of the chest before carefully placing it on the table and using his own unique Theríon to break the seal on the box to open it.
Inside, there were dozens of Seven Fangs monster cores, a few Eight Fangs ones, and only one Nine Fangs monster core.
Feng Luotian checked the name on the tiny silver plaque in front of each monster core.
With the knowledge he gained from the ancient library, Coeus, he could tell what types of monster cores they were just by looking at their names. That's why he came to sell Wight Wolf's core, even if it was a Talon core.
Wight Wolf's core could increase the Stealth skill proficiency, making it a Stealth-type monster core.
Feng Luotian did not have any skill with that trait yet, if he was to refine it, the only thing he gained would only be energy, losing all hidden benefits.
Even if he was to gain a Stealth-type skill in the future, these benefits would be lost because they could only provide benefits to the current one.
The same goes for all the monster cores he used before he was awakened. All of their hidden benefits were gone just like that because he did not have any skills at that time. This wasteful action had left a slight tinge of pain in his heart until now, and he would like to avoid that as much as possible.
As such, he came to trade for lower-level monster cores with Lightning-type and Speed-type to enjoy their hidden features.
With a smug on his face, Feng Luotian had fun checking the names of the monster cores and was complacent with all the knowledge from his alternate life.
However, Kronos just had to slap his knowledge's face yet again.
