Tóm tắt

A jumpchain multiverse exploration story. Where the main character will be travelling world to world across different popular media. This is my first foray into fiction writing. Especially long form story telling, so I apologize for the quality and hopefully I'll get better.

Chapter 1Chapter 1

There are better ways to wake up then to find yourself somewhere you didn't go to sleep. Waking up in the middle of a forest isn't the worst random location to wake up. It's better than waking up in a cell of some sort, but it's still not great. My memories are hazy at best I've got no idea where I am or what I'm doing here.

I'm stuck in thought for a few moments still trying to wake up fully, when I hear a scream for help coming from a clearing in the forest up ahead. I stand up and start running over to the calls for help. When I get past the dense section of the forest I was in I enter a clearing where I see a middle-aged man with a beard, cargo shorts, and a lab coat being chased in circles by some kind of dog. I don't know why but he looks strangely familiar. As I get closer he spots me.

"Hey please help! I dropped my bag over there inside should be a Pokeball."

Things in my mind start to click into place, but I follow his orders running over to the bag looking for a Pokeball. I don't even need to look inside as three pokeballs have rolled out of his bag. I grab the one furthest from me, turn to the professor, and press the center white button. From the red and white orb comes a light. Now standing in front of me is a cute blue frog-like creature.

" Great job," he says as the dog stops chasing him and immediately goes after the frog in front of me. It's at this point that everything comes together and I realize this is Pokemon, specifically the opening to one of the third generation games.

" Mudkip tackle him" I order and so it tackles the poochyena. Both of them are pretty weak right now so one good tackle from mudkip is enough to daze it and a second one knocks it unconscious.

"Whew... I was in tall grass studying wild Pokemon when I was jumped. You saved me thanks a lot! I'm Professor Birch, a Pokemon researcher." He extends his hand for a handshake. I shake his hand, but an awkward silence forms.

"and you are?" Oh shit, what's my name? Ok, default Pokemon names. Red? Taken. Blue? Dumb. Silver? ehh close.

"Silva! My names Silva"

"Well nice to meet you, Silva, it seems that mudkip has taken a shine to you"

I look down and the mudkip had wandered over and is now sitting next to me. I kneel down and start petting him.

"Well since you two seem to get along so well why don't you keep him?"

I lookup " really?"

"I wouldn't offer if I wasn't serious"

I look back at the mudkip " Well how about it want to come with me?

He gives me a confident nod and a loud "mudkip", but I can tell he means" you got it".

"Well, then you need a name. Any ideas?"

"Mudkip" nope"

Ok mudkip... Water... Aqua... Kwa...

"Kwan? How does Kwan Sound?

" Mudkip"" I like it"

"Thanks, professor"

"No thank you. But on an unrelated note maybe you can help me with something"

"Like what?

He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a metallic red device.

" This is a Pokedex it automatically collects data about Pokemon you encounter. It also acts as an encyclopedia for Pokemon information. I would like you to take this with you to collect data, then occasionally come back here to deliver it"

"Well, that doesn't seem too bad. Sure why not"

"Great here you go" he hands me the Pokedex

"Any Idea where I should head from here"

" Well if you need some more time to catch your bearings then you can come south with me to littleroot town, but that's a dead-end you'll have to go north from here on route 101 to Oldale Town. My daughter should also be somewhere around there if you need any advice on starting as a trainer."

" Thanks for the hospitality, but I think I'll get started heading north"

" Good Luck" he gives me a final look and starts walking south.

I give him one last wave, before coming back to my senses and realizing I still have no idea what's happening. I rush back to the forested area where I woke up Kwan following behind. Back where I woke up I see a backpack that I must have missed when I first ran toward Birch.

Opening up the backpack, I'm greeted with is a packet of paper. Which I quickly read through. By the time I'm done I understand what's going on. I don't know why my memories are so messed up, but I at least know how I got here. I was offered a choice to come here, which I accepted then I was given a selection of benefits, disadvantages, and general circumstances that I would find in the Pokemon world. This Packet covered my choices.

I was randomly assigned to being 10 years old and starting in the Hoenn region. I selected to drop in so I have no background in this world. My selected starter was Bulbasaur, which either my choices didn't actually work or that whole misadventure with Professor Birch happened completely by chance. Then I selected 6 perks. Free Running improves my acrobatic ability. Survival and Combat training are both self-explanatory. Savant should give me a perfect memory and increased intelligence. I haven't explicitly seen those 4, however, I have noticed the other 2. Pokeglot able to talk to Pokemon which explains why I can interpret Kwan's "Mudkips", and Physical Fitness which explains why I'm so jacked as a ten-year-old.

Then there are physical items I selected. I got a bag, Pokedex, pokegear, 5 pokeballs, and three potions for free. Then I actually selected 3 master balls, an HM collection, rebreather, and 50k pokedollars. There are also 2 disadvantages Marked and Hunted which makes me a target for the local criminal gang and a random legendary Pokemon. The second one is significantly less worrying there are so many legendaries and they're rare by the time I encounter any I should have a strong enough team. The only other thing is a note at the end that says in ten years I'll be given another choice of whether or not to stay in this world or go to another.

The next thing I do is make sure that my bag has everything it should. Looking through the deceptively large bag I find everything listed in the packet even the master balls, money, and an occupied pokeball. It doesn't have any actual camping/ survival goods or food so hopefully, the shop at Oldale town will have some supplies. I repack my backpack the only things I keep out are the two pokeballs for my starters. I press the button on still occupied Pokeball then clipped both onto my belt.

The occupied pokeball released a Bulbasaur as expected.

" Bulbasaur" "hello," it said in a luke-warm tone

I bend down to give him head pats

"How's it going... Herb"

"Bulbasaur" "good"

"How do you like Herb as a name?"

"Bulbasaur" "Fine"

"Alright then" guess Herbs not much of talker. With nothing else to do I decide to start heading North to Oldale.

"Alright Herb, Kwan let's get going"

From there I started moving back toward the clearing and then north on route 101.

This story is really good in some aspects, and really quite bad in others. For the good things: The grammar and spelling is pretty much perfect, and scenes are written in a way that you can easily understand and visualise what's going on. The premises and plot threads of each jump were really interesting (except for the pokemon world, which was rather bland, but even that had the cool idea of megastones being compared to evolution stones and being made permanent at the end). I mean, kicking the humans out of the far north and repopulating the giants, freeing Kurogiri from his mind control and becoming his apprentice, kidnapping Azula and swapping her role with Zuko's, all of these are top tier ideas. (I didn't read the Mass Effect arc since I never played the game and didn't see the point in powering through it since it was the last arc, anyway). The background worlds are very consistent with the canons', and have reasonable and well thought out outcomes in relation to the butterflies of the mc. There are lots of chapters, which is always a good thing. For the bad things: This gets better as the story goes on, but at the start the story is very very rushed. It feels more like the outline to the story rather than reading an actual story at times. This problem started to get better during the mha arc and was pretty much gone during the avatar arc, though. The second problem, I think is related to the first. The mc has no personality. During the first arcs, everything was more like a summary of what the mc did without exploring his mindset while doing it, or showing his conversations with others. Then, because of this, when the quality started to improve, there was no personality to build off of so he turned out super boring. In the mha world, it's like he's acting professionally all the time. In the avatar world, it's a little better, but still pretty bad. Like, even though there's romance, it's more like "by the way, we're dating now" than any sort of flirting or blushing or exploring their feelings or, well, anything, really. So, yeah. Good in some aspects and bad in others, but imo the good outweigh the bad and the bad slowly get better as the story goes on.
