Fighting Against Slime Pod

True to his word, the two were able to find the required number of Light Grass easily. Along the way, they were also found Horned Rabbit.

Kell gave the basket they used to keep the Light Grass to Ian, as he had appraised the Horned Rabbit, and well,

 < Name: Horned Rabbit

 Race: Beast

 Age:?

 Strength:?

 Speed: D

 Agility: C

 Stamina:?

 Intelligence:?

 Wisdom:?

 Mana Level:? >

Considering the fact that both the Horned Rabbit's Speed and Agility are far superior to Ian's, Kell is the only one who can hunt them. Combined with the fact none of his arsenals allowed him to trap the creature, Ian was forced to stand down.

While Ian sulked at a large tree, Kell proceeded to hunt the Horned Rabbit. As he had read, the beast was more aggressive than their regular counterpart. However, it still is a prey species and in the face of overwhelming odds, it will always run away.

However, Kell is far faster and agile, allowing him to grasp the beast's ears. He was able to catch two easily before giving the two to Ian, who was able to wrangle them before slitting its throat.

Thankfully, despite his physical deficiency, the two had gone on a camping and hunting trip, courtesies of their fathers. So, they were averse to the art of killing prey efficiently.

Ian slit the two rabbits' throats and let the blood flow. At that moment, two more Horned Rabbits were given to him and once again, the creatures were killed.

After Kell caught the last one and killed it himself, the blood of the beasts' was drained and Ian, after wrapping them with some clothes, so some of the remaining blood would not contaminate the Light Grass.

After the last Horned Rabbit was drained of its life-fueling liquid, they began to head out. At that moment, the two were so glad for the tools rented by the Adventure Guild, as it would be much harder to butcher the beasts without a knife or carry all the things without the basket.

"Alright, now we need to hunt down a pod of slime. Which by the way, really, the collective noun for slime is a pod?" Kell could not help but ask.

Ian shrugged, it's not like he knew what the people of the other world thought.

"The pod is located somewhere west of the Thrine Forest, near the outskirts, the reason why I save this for last, is so we don't have to go deeper just to finish the pod," Ian told Kell, who nodded.

"From the commission, the pod had been seen coming in close to a village just outside the Thrine Forest and threatened the field there," Ian explained.

"But really, to build a village next to a forest filled with monsters. Are those people mad?" Kell asked.

"Well, the forest is where the leyline is located. And so, if they can maintain a field near the forest, the amount of produce they can generate will be far more than further away.

So, many former adventurers stayed in such a village. In fact, most villages near the leylines are likely founded by those adventurers," Ian concluded.

"Then why didn't those adventurers handle the slime themselves?" Kell asked again.

"I don't know. The most likely thing is that the slime ran deeper into the forest while the adventurers could not leave the village for long, fewer other monsters might threatened their fields.

So, they commission this mission to make sure the threat that they could not destroy in time is managed by adventurers. Not to mention it probably isn't that expensive to hire some adventurers to kill some slimes," Ian deduced, though whether he is correct or not is not something he is sure of.

"In that case, let's deal with this slime pod,"

-x-

They did not have a map of the forest, unfortunately. However, they do have knowledge regarding ways to determine direction and they also read the map of the Thrine Forest in the Adventure Guild prior.

With his memory, Ian was able to determine their location and so they were able to go in the right direction without straying too far.

Thankfully, aside from some Horned Rabbits, there are no other beasts or monsters in their path. However, as they get closer to the outskirts of the forest, they hear the sound of jelly hitting the ground.

The two quickly hide themselves behind a tree, with Ian popping his head out to get a clear line of sight. There, he spotted their target, a pod of 8 slimes, bouncing like nobody's business.

Before they engage with the creatures, Ian performs an appraisal of the monsters.

 < Name: Slime

 Race: Monster

 Age:?

 Strength:?

 Speed: E

 Agility: D

 Stamina:?

 Intelligence:?

 Wisdom:?

 Mana Level:? >

Ian let out a sigh of relief, if he had been slower than a slime, he might just commit seppuku. 'Wait, I am still just as fast as a slime,' he thought to himself, almost despairing if not for the fact they needed to kill the pod.

"Remember," Ian reminded Kell, "Don't destroy the core. Deal damage to the body. Enough damage there will make the slime explode,"

Kell nodded before he jumped to the slimes. Two slimes that were currently in the air did not have the time to avoid his slash, and the two monsters were taken out with one shot.

The monsters bounced backward. This exact chance was taken by Ian, who cast his only offensive spell at the moment.

"Arcane Shot," he shouted, blasting a white shot that hit one of the slime, killing it instantly. He then unleashed more Arcane Shot, his precise aim took two more slimes down.

As he dealt with the slimes at the back, Kell engaged, though to be exact, massacred the remaining slimes. The creatures could only bounced at them, and tried to hit Kell.

However, considering they are as fast as Ian at best (hey!), they could not hope to land a hit on Kell. The bigger boy easily dodges such pathetic attacks and slashes at the edge of the slime's body, killing one more.

As the other two bounced to the back, Kell dashed at them, before another strike took the last two slimes down with ease.

"Looks like that is the last of them," Kell exclaimed, watching as Ian grabbed the scattered magic core. Thankfully, none are damaged. While the subjugation, if they provided valid proof, gave them a good income, it did not include the magic core.

The magic core, if sold separately would also give them more coins. Subtracting from the rent of the knife and basket, which is just a meager 5 iron coin each, they have enough money for proper food.
