=====
Staring at the phantom that stood on the other side of the force field, which had replaced the usual glass barrier, Owen was slightly stunned but not paralyzed. He wasted no time in taking out one of the peculiar grenades he had found earlier. The particular grenade he retrieved was known as a recycler grenade, aptly named for its ability to recycle anything caught within the range of its miniaturized singularity.
It was honestly one of Owen's favorites, as compared to the other grenades he had encountered, the recycler grenade was far superior in terms of versatility and lethality. Although he had experienced his fair share of mishaps and accidental self-destructions in the game, the moments when these grenades came in clutch far outnumbered the setbacks. Owen hoped that they would prove just as effective now as he cautiously approached the force field, with the phantom on the other side.
As he neared the force field, Owen could hear a faint whisper emanating from the phantom. "Why are you alive?" it murmured, a haunting echo of their final thoughts before their demise. However, Owen chose to ignore the ethereal words and focused on the task at hand. He noticed a small window built into the force field, most likely intended for passing documents or other small objects through.
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP**BEEP* *BEEP*
Without hesitation, Owen swiftly pressed the button on the recycler charge, triggering its activation. Rolling it through the narrow window, he aimed it directly at the watchful phantom. Knowing the risks involved, Owen quickly dropped down, seeking refuge in the farthest corner away from the impending explosion.
It was over in a mere second, and as Owen cautiously lifted his gaze, he was met with a scene of destruction. The area outside the security booth lay torn apart, scattered with numerous small squares of metal, fiber, and exotic materials that had once comprised the formidable phantom.
Seeing the aftermath of the recycler charge, a faint smile graced Owen's face as he exited the security booth. With a sense of satisfaction, he began to collect the recycled materials, swiftly adding them to his inventory. Each piece represented a small victory, a tangible reminder of his triumph over the phantom.
As he made his way towards the elevator, the atmosphere grew eerily quiet. Owen's footsteps echoed through the empty corridors, accompanied only by the occasional flicker of broken lights and the distant hum of machinery. He couldn't help but notice the increasing number of lifeless bodies strewn across his path, a grim testament to the chaos that had unfolded on Talos I.
This also confirmed one unsettling truth that penetrated Owen's already paranoid mind: there were likely numerous Typhon lurking on this path. His intuition proved to be accurate when he discovered the area just outside the elevator cluttered with a chaotic array of seemingly random items. To his horror, Owen realized that these scattered objects were not random at all but were, in fact, a multitude of Mimics!
Sadly for the mimics, they crossed paths with Owen, who had become quite adept at utilizing the recycler charges. Waste no time he did not, as he swiftly retrieved and activated half a dozen charges. The powerful gravitational pull of the charges immediately engulfed the unsuspecting mimics, causing them to screech in annoyance as they were transformed into small purple cubes.
Owen wasted no time in collecting the cubes, fully aware of their value as crafting materials. However, at that moment, scavenging for resources was not his top priority. His attention was fixated on the massive elevator before him, its size capable of accommodating up to ten people. With a sense of relief, Owen stepped inside the elevator, grateful that it still functioned.
In the game, the main character had to embark on an extensive adventure to get the elevator operational. Owen, though, had no desire to embark on a similar journey. He had already faced numerous challenges and dangers, and the thought of encountering more obstacles to get the elevator working was not something he relished.
