Eden glances over in their silence. Did Abel’s mind fill these gaps with thoughts in the same fervent way Eden’s did? It was impossible to tell from his face. For somebody who wears his heart on his sleeve, he could be incredibly difficult to read.

“Are you learning a lot from my face?” Abel suddenly turns his head half Eden’s way.

“Uh...”

Abel smiles, rests the book against his chest, “I know it’s terribly interesting, but spring exams are coming up, you know. Don’t want to be the one in thirty.”

Eden, somewhat flusteredly, buries his nose in the textbook again. “Just making sure you were studying.”

Abel laughs chirpingly, “Oh, of course.”

The many white faces on the walls, with their black, starkly contoured features, stare down with floating blank smiles, their uncertain fates making them look like spirits long gone. Eden frowns under their gaze.

“Still, I don’t understand how anyone could focus in here. It’s like relaxing at a cemetery...”
