Chapter 6

Next day

Bob: Mr. Benson, please where's Lena? I can't seem to find her anywhere.

Mr. Benson: She's fired, Sir.

Bob: After trying to harass her, you still sacked her?

Mr. Benson: Huh! Me, Sir?

Bob: I saw everything on the cameras which I had installed the day I joined this company. Mr. Benson you and Mr. Anderson are fired. Good day…

(Bob goes to visit Lena that day and asks her to return to the company as a manager because she deserves it. Lena refuses due to the fact that she thinks Bob is trying to favor her. Bob tries to reason with Lena and assures her that he won't interfere in her work or try to favorher if she comes back, but Lena still refuses. Lena then goes on to say, she will come back to work only if he,Bob will not promote her but give her time to prove that she deserves the promotion. The following week Lena comes back to work and not everyone is excited to see her.)

Abigail: Oh finally, someone decides to show her face.Do you know how long I have suffered doing the job you were supposed to do? See, don't even talk… Justgo to my table and collect all the files and start working on them. Aahh! I can finally have time to do some snaps.

Bob: I believe it's your job, Miss Abigail to finish the project and we are paying you good money, unless you don't want your job anymore.

Abigail: I'm sorry Sir. It's Lena fault, she just left when she knows she's supposed to be doing the work after all,she's the assistant.

Bob: Hhhmmm…. Miss Mortilor, from now on I want you doing only the job you were hired to do. And can I have everyone's attention? Good morning, I have a few announcements to make. Henceforth, Miss Mortilor has been promoted to the position of project manager,therefore she will be handling all our projects and you are all expected to report to her. Thank you, and have a nice day.

(Lena is surprised and disappointed that Bob still went ahead and gave her the promotion even though they had talked about it. She stormed off to Bob's office angrily.)

In Bob's office

(Bob takes off his jacket and sits down to say a prayer,but Lena storms in and bangs the door.)

Lena: What was the meaning of that? I thought we had an understanding.

Bob: If I remember correctly, you only spoke but I never said or agreed to anything, my dear.

Lena: I'm not your dear. Who the hell do you think you are to decide for me? I have a right to decide for myself and only me.

Bob: Wow! I'm sorry if you took my kind gesture the wrong way, but you deserve it and you know it. So can you just stop being stubborn about it and just accept it already?

Lena: You don't get it, do you? Do you know what people will say? I haven't showed my face for a week and then boom! I show my face and gets a promotion. They will say I'm sleeping with you.

Bob: But technically, you are sleeping with me. (Bob laughs and tries to touch Lena)

Lena: Don't you dare touch me! If you ever come close to me again, I will scratch your face. You are a snake and Mr. Martins I believe I'm very fine at my current level. You can keep your position.

Bob: Lena, calm down. What did I say wrong? I'm just trying to reason with you. I mean you are my girl and you can use me. I don't mind, plus you deserve the position.

Lena: Let this be the last time you ever mention my first name Mr. Martins, and I'm not your girl nor will I ever be. You and I, we never did and we would never have anything.

Bob: Lena, what are you saying? Please come down…

Lena: You still don't get it, do you? I will prefer to be the office slave than to be called out for sleeping with the boss to get the position.

Bob: You know that's not what I mean…. Come on

Lena: So you thought I was with you just because you are Brobbery Martins?

Bob: "Junior", you are supposed to add it.

Lena: You are an ass…

(Lena runs out of the office and meets the secretary but she being too busy to get away from Bob she failed to realize his secretary has been listening in on the whole conversation. She completely avoids Bob even when he tried so hard to talk to her.)

One week later

Bob: Miss Mortilor, can I please have a word with you in my office?

Lena: Yes boss (Lena follows bob to his office)

Bob: You can have a seat

Lena: Thank you, but I prefer to stand

Bob: Please, I just want to talk

Lena: I said I want to stand… Don't force me to walk out.

Bob: Okay, Lena.

Lena: It's Miss Mortilor, please.

Bob: Okay sorry, Miss Mortilor. I'm truly sorry, I meant no harm. I just want to give you what you deserved and that's all, I never meant to hurt you. Please forgive me

Lena: Okay… Can I go now?

Bob: Please I'm sorry. I really miss you

Lena: If that's all, can I go?

Bob: Please…

(Lena walks out of Bob's office straight to the bathroom and cries. Later that day, Lena sees Abigail with Bob's secretary but thinks nothing of it. During lunch time,Abigail sits with the boys and tells them that Lena is sleeping with the boss and that's how she got her promotion. The guys makes fun of Lena and even calls her names. Lena enters the cafeteria and is greeted by laughter and insults.)

Abigail: Hmmmmph…. Some people only know how to open their legs to get promotion

Emma: Hahahaha… I wonder the styles she gave him…. Lena, abeg u fi teach me

Lena: What is going on here?

Abigail: Oh please, save us the good girl act. We all know you're shaggin the boss. Tell me, is he good?

(Lena walks out and goes back to her office and continues her work. Meanwhile Bob watches Lena from afar and sees how sad she is but says nothing to her. He rather orders lunch for her but Lena refuses to eat saying she's not hungry. That night, Bob follows Lenahome just to try and talk to her.)

Bob: Lena, please can we talk? Please just five minutes. I'm sorry and I miss you

Lena: What do you want? I don't want to talk to you or anybody else, please leave me alone. Please…

(Lena starts to cry and walk away. Bob holds Lena, and asks her to look in his eyes and please give him a chance to explain himself.)

Lena: Bob, go away… What more do you want? You already got what you wanted. The whole companythinks I'm sleeping with you. And oh, they said I must have fucked you really hard to be promoted. Some wants to even know the styles I gave you, so do you want us to demonstrate for them tomorrow? Bob, get out! And I don't ever want to have anything to do with you. You want to know something, I hate you… I hate you for making me look helpless and foolish… GET OUT OF MY LIFE! YOU STUPID COCKROACH!

(Bob is completely shocked and surprised about Lena's outburst and completely loses his cool.)

Bob: Lena, I don't deserve any of this… You know I just wanted to help

Lena: I don't need your help, you sick bastard.

Bob: I don't know what is going on here but Lena, I think you are right. I will leave you and I hope you are happy and please you can go back to being the company's servant. I just wanted to correct an injustice here but here am I getting insulted for it. You can go to hell for all I care, Lena. And if you ever call me a sick bastard again, I will really show you what a sick bastard is. (Bob pushes Lena out of his way and angrily drives home.)

Two months later

(Bob closes from work and sees Lena trying to carry some loads and looking for a taxi, but because it was late she couldn't get one. He drives away from Lena and almost hit her. Lena hits the ground as she dodges the gutter and cries out in pain.)

(Later in Bob's house, his cousin asks him about Lena.)

James: Oh boy, u dey live big oo…. hehehehe my boy why u frown like that?

Bob: Hmmmmmm….

James: Omo na that your girl dey give u problems abi…. I told u now… Women go give u wahala but u for handle am like a man. Pass am to me make I show u how.

Bob: It is your father that I will pass to you… Hurry up and get out.

James: Oh boy hehehehe love do u strong thing oo… But seriously, have you tried talking to her?

Bob: She doesn't want to listen to me la…. But I think it's for the best.

James: My guy, you can't come and stress because of one chick. See let me tell you, plenty babes dey. Go out and get one and see how far now.

Bob: I love that girl, and I don't want anyone but her.

James: So until when will you wait for her to change her mind? My guy, I get woman I go link you so no worries.

(Bob sits through the whole night thinking about Lena and why she behaves this way. He calls his mum and they talk about it.)

At the office

(It's been three days since he almost hit Lena on his way home. Bob asks for the file on a project to be brought to his office and given details concerning it.Lena limps to Bob's office and knocks.)

Bob: Come in

(Lena enters the office with a bandage on her leg. Bob is surprised and his immediate reaction is to get up and hold her, but he quickly regains his composure and just stares at Miss Mortilor trying to sit.)

Bob: Miss Mortilor I know I didn't ask you to take a seat, so what are you trying to do?

Lena: Sorry….

Bob: Hmm… Can you brief me on the details of the Cornwall contract?

Lena: Yes Sir. (Lena quickly briefs Bob the details and tries to hurry out of his office.)

Bob: Miss Mortilor, can I ask what happened to your leg?

Lena: Sorry Mr. Martins, but I believe it's nothing to worry you about. Can I go now?

Bob: Sure… (Bob stares at Lena as she leaves his office and wondered when she will come back to him. He wished he could just hold her or even help her but he had to control himself if he wants to win Lena over again.)

After work

Lena stood by the roadside waiting for a taxi to get home, but there was no car and it was pretty late. Lena tried calling for an Uber, but she found out she had no credit. Lena wanted to cry, because she was tired and her injured leg was killing her. Soon, Lena saw the flash of a car light and quickly raises her hand to ask for a lift to the nearest station to get a taxi. The car stops for Lena, and before she could even get closer to the car, a man gets down and rushes towards her. He snatches her bag and slaps her as she tries to resist. The man takes out a knife and cuts her hand and stabs her at her sides and kicks her. Lena falls to the ground with a sound as she struggles for her life. The car quickly sped off leaving Lena in a pool of her blood.

Lena cries and says her prayer to God to save her and that God should forgive her for treating Bob like that. She confesses to loving Bob and that if God should give her another chance, she will do right by Bob and also put God first. Lena slowly loses consciousness as she becomes less aware of her surroundings.

Unbeknownst to Lena, the security man heard and saw everything that transpired her and the man. He went into hiding when he saw the man pull out a knife to save himself. He quickly raised an alarm and called Bob.
