The Dark Paladin

Thick clouds cover the skies, and a bright Red Moon can vaguely be seen shining through the layers of clouds.

The Red Moon can be seen shining over a loosely populated part of the city. It is a richer district and among it, stands a plain white mansion. It is decorated with luxurious furniture, carefully landscaped garden of various plants and trees, stretching from the side through the back, and to the other side, with it's front, a driveway occupied by a couple cars.

On the ceiling of that manor, sits a young boy staring into the sky.

"Such a beautiful sky... if only we could see the stars as clearly as we used to." Kai stares blankly at the skies...

A large cloud drifts past, momentarily casting shadow upon the land. As the shadow passes, several shadowy figures can be seen.

Kai slowly stood up, raising his hands, along which the winds weaved and swirled around him. As if performing a ritual, the boy slowly moved, as if dancing with a traditional routine. As if answering to the boy, the winds picked up, and howled, and swayed even the largest trees...

As if the wind itself, Kai leaped, and accurately landed atop a street lamp, then moments later, appearing behind one of the figures.

"..." Wordlessly, that figure collapse, and disappears. Revealing Kai, holding a sword. He looks up, and repeated the same swiftness, slashing down yet another figure.

The shadowy figures began closing in, more alert now. Mere seconds into battle, Kai has already defeated two of them - even before they launched a single attack.

"When will you guys learn that you don't belong in this World?" Kai threw himself in the air, did a flip, and kicked a figure, sending it flying backwards into a tree. He then twisted midair, and slashed behind him, cutting yet another figure.

The figures continued closing in, and eventually surrounded Kai. By the time Kai defeated the 7th figure, his movements began slowing down, and one of the figures managed to slash at his back, revealing a gruesome cut.

"Ugh..." He reached for his back, and realizes he's bleeding.

It's been said that one good hand will find it hard to defeat two fists, and two fists will find it tough to defeat four hands. Being outnumbered, Kai began to feel helpless, on top of that, he had already encountered a different battle earlier, and was already feeling worn out.

A magical circle appears on the ground, slowly spreading, and then disappears. Gone with it, all the shadowy figures.

"Such an entrancing performance." The winds brought a sudden whisper to the boys ears.

"Thank you for your help, Senior." Unfamiliar with the voice, and clearly not expecting anyone, Kai looked around, while quickly brought his hands down, and brought the howling winds into a calm.

"No thanks needed. I am the Legendary Dark Paladin, you must have heard of me?" The whispers again reached the boy's ears.

"Pfft hahaha! What? Legendary? Dark Paladin? Never heard of you!" The name sounded like a middle school syndrome, and that just made Kai chuckle.

"You're a kid afterall."

Not a tinge of emotion can be detected from the whispers. But that may not mean that he wasn't angered.

"My apologies for offending you, Sir. How are you whispering to me without being near me? Why not show yourself?"

"It's not a whisper, yet a whisper..." The Dark Paladin answered, yet ignored the question on showing himself.

"That doesn't make any sense."

"Boy, where is this?"

"This is my home, Sembawang. You must not be from around here? Are you lost?"

Kai quickly asked, and starts thinking about the identity of this mysterious voice.

"Hmm. Sem... bawang? I have been asleep for too long, perhaps."

"I would love to help you find your way, but I must get to sleep soon. I hope you find your way, good night!" Kai yawned and left. He may be tired, but he is also wary of the mysterious trespasser who was also powerful enough to wipe out all the shadowy figures.

"You worry too much, boy... We'll meet again."

Legend of The Dreamers!

I have written various versions of this story over many years, but it has always been rather hard to continue - hopefully this time I will be able to publish and keep this story going.

I'm also really new to this, and updates will not be regular - my apologies in advance!
