“Anyway, the words weren’t right, and they have to be right…it’s the scene when Lady Edith rejects the viscount’s proposal even though she’s in love with him, because she doesn’t think he loves her, so it’s complicated…I gave up and thought I’d make tea and let the paragraphs sort themselves out, and I think I was more tired than I thought.” Simon wriggled around enough to rest his chin on Ben’s chest, considerately balanced on a hand so it wouldn’t hurt. Their eyes met. “And then you were here.”

“I am.” Ben ran a hand over all the merry hair, across the fluffy sweater and straight spine beneath, down the curve of the nearest hip. His husband practically purred under the petting. “I’ll always be here. I promise.”
