Chapter 18. A package

The call was from Mia. "Hello babygirl", Leilani said the moment she picked up.

"Yeah sweetheart, sorry I didn't tell you that I won't be coming home tonight".

Leilani looked at her wrist watch. "It's past midnight already", she said with a chuckle.

"Yeah, I know. And I'm sorry about that. I just wanted to tell you to sleep well and remember to take your..."

"I know ", Leilani said cutting her off. She didn't want Mia mentioning the meds in Stephan's presence. It was embarrassing.

"Sure. I love you, bye", Mia said and hung up.

"You guys are really close aren't you?", Stephan asked the moment the call ended. His brows were furrowed for some reason. He understood the closeness but the 'I love you' part was too much right?

"Yeah. We're more like sisters", she said.

"What was she going to tell you to take?", he asked.

Leilani remained quiet.

"It's fine. I understand".

"Yeah. Thanks".

"Where's your room?", he asked.

"Why?"

"I want to put you to sleep".

Leilani looked at him with an arched brow.

"No no, hey c'mon. I'm not like that. I just want to make sure you sleep".

"Alright. The second floor", she said. She was still in his arms. She didn't want to get off. Not yet. He brought her to her room. It was different from what he expected. She was a girl. A fashionista. A CEO. He expected that her room be of the girlie aesthetic. The pink walls, pink sheets, in fact everything girlie. But it wasn't like that.

It was more like the male color. Black. She designed it with the black aesthetics.

"Not girlie at all", he blurted.

"What were you expecting?"

"Pink".

Leilani scoffed as she lay on the bed. "I don't do pink".

"Why?"

"It's not my thing. It's funny how I love black so much as as a young lady".

"No. It's cool. I like it".

Leilani sighed. "You can take one of the guest rooms and sleep in it".

"Ok. But I'll watch you sleep first".

Leilani looked at him. "Really?"

"You don't want that?"

"No. I want that", she stated.

Stephan chuckled.

"Thanks Stephan. For saving my life".

"It's fine. That's what I should do".

"You sound so committed" she said drowsily. She was actually tired. From the contest till this place... Her bed reminded her.

"I'm. To you", he replied after a while but she didn't hear this part.

The next day, the doorbell woke Leilani up. The sight of the man in her bed alarmed her. She checked herself and sighed in relief when she realized that she was still intact. The man was sleeping beside her, looking so ethereal. His hair was touseled making him look more enchanting. Even his morning look was nice. In one word, he looked sexy. She wondered how someone could be so handsome. The doorbell rang again distracting her. She wondered who it was that could be ringing the doorbell at this hour... Rachel or...Mia!

At the thought that it might be her best friend, she sprang from the bed and woke Stephan up in the cruelest manner.

"Hey...", he wanted to shout.

"Shhh!", she halted. "Mia's here! Hide! Quickly!"

"But why should I hide?", Stephan asked in an aggrieved tone. He had never been woken up in this manner before.

"I don't want her to know. She's gonna tease me till forever".

He stood from the bed begrudgingly and walked to the bathroom. He didn't expect that this was going to happen. Why would he have to hide in a toilet?!

"I'll be back", she said and left the room.

"Ok".

She went downstairs and pulled open the door. However, it was neither of the duo. It was a delivery package. The delivery man was wearing a baseball cap so she didn't get to see his face well. Leilani was confused as she wasn't expecting any package. She hadn't ordered for anything. Or maybe Mia ordered?

"I didn't order", she said to the man.

"But it reads 'To Miss Leilani Zhang".

Leilani took the box from the man and went inside. The man looked at her with a strange smile before leaving.

Leilani walked to the counter and tore open the box. She wondered which secret admirer had sent her this. When she finally opened the box, an envelope lay inside.

She opened the envelope and what she saw made all her hairs to stand on end.

"Aaaaarrrghhhhh!", she screamed and fell to the floor.
