Chapter 5

Dawn -

Going out for dessert was a very nice change of pace.

Lucelia was quiet, but I felt like it was intentional because she wanted to observe me with Cameran.

The two of us, me and Cameran, definitely connected from the start and made a type of bond at least I had hoped would lead to a beautiful friendship.

I was aware that just because the two of us were on the same track it would not mean that we would maintain a similar schedule, but it looked like there was a good chance.

I couldn't express how it all fit together, but the time we spent together really made me feel like I had made a friend that I could really count on.

She was someone that felt safe to me.

A partner in crime along this very unique journey we were both about to embark on together.

I had been in such a state of confusion from the beginning so nothing really startled me.

When Cameran so much as suggested that I might have been picked as a pet to the headmistress it made me selfishly excited, but overall concerned.

Hearing what she had to say about the headmistress' history only made me more conflicted.

The idea of having someone so knowledgeable wanting to help me made me feel so happy and secure in so many ways, but it also left me feeling questionable like I could not understand why.

Once we got back to the room I took my tablet to the headmistress' office.

She arrived at the office at the same time I did.

Headmistress: ‘I must say that I admire your punctuality.’

She went into her office and I followed her.

‘Thank you headmistress.’

Dani: ‘It's after hours, call me Dani as long as you can make sure it doesn't happen in front of others.’

‘Oh, yes Ma'am, thank you.’

Dani: ‘Have a seat. Would you like anything to drink?’

I sat down.

‘Oh, no thank you Ma'am, I'm good.’

She opened the mini refrigerator in the corner and grabbed a canned soda before going to her seat.

Dani: ‘So, I have a confession to make. I haven't been entirely honest with you.’

‘About what Ma'am?’

Dani: ‘You were actually accepted into the academy before you ever even applied.’

‘I'm sorry, but I don't understand.’

Dani: ‘Your late wife actually reached out to me after she knew her time was limited.’

‘She did?’

Dani: ‘Yes she did. She told me about the situation and said that she would encourage you to apply after she passed away. She also said that if you were to apply you might need some help with things. The two of us never met in person or even spoke on the phone, but we did get to know each other pretty well via email. I would actually consider her to be a friend. She wanted to know if the school provided a mentor program so that you would have someone keeping an eye out for you. While there are certain mentor programs within the school I told her that what she was suggesting is not a service we offer, however after hearing her concerns, I agreed with her blessing to offer my personal mentorship to you. Of course this is not something you're obligated to accept by any means, but if you so desire the reason I wanted to meet with you tonight was so that we could outline the things you would need help with and start putting some structure into place between us. If you choose to accept, I mean.’

I was at a loss.

‘You want to help me? She asked you to help me?’

Dani: ‘Only if you want me to, but yes, she did ask me.’

I wanted to cry, letting a sniffle escape.

Dani: ‘Oh sweetie.’

She took a box of tissues and walked around her desk to offer me one.

‘Thank you Ma'am.’

I just clenched the tissue in my fist.

Dani: ‘As I said, you are under no obligation to accept my offer.’

‘No I would like to accept, please. It just amazes me that she isn't even here anymore, but she's still looking after me.’

Dani: ‘You meant the world to her. It was a very difficult situation to accept all around, but she said what hurt the most was knowing her time with you would be cut short, as well as your time to explore things together.’

As I said before, based on numbers as they have been this week I'm willing to start updating this story twice a week but if those numbers drop it will only be once. Just a reminder to continue to vote for each chapter!
