Chapter 13

A big smile broke out on Anjelo’s face when he heard Lathe let loose with a string of expletives under his breath. Happy with the way things were going, he smiled, and said, “Ahhh, life is good.”

“Don’t get too happy, kid. I won’t be in this bed forever.”

“Maybe so, but you won’t be getting out of it any way soon if you don’t take care of yourself. I suggest you take your pills and get some rest. I’ve got an errand to run, but I’ll be back later. If you need anything just press that button there. It’ll summon the nurse at her station, and she’ll be here in a flash.”

“Where are you going?”

“Don’t you worry about that. I’ll be back before you know it—with a surprise.” 5

Later, when Lathe woke up, he was feeling pretty good until he looked down and saw his hospital gown edged in—lace!

His eyes widened, and he choked with anger as he began ripping at it.
